True, but 04 and 05 St Kilda is nearly identical to this Hawthorn. Rebuilt in the same way, took two talls in the one draft that are/were firing. Had a similar type midfield and forward line, our backline was probably stronger with Matty Maguire, Hudgeton and the like. We were struck with injury and couldn't get the job done, Hawthorn were not. Enjoy the year Hawkers

if if if... cmon guys past is gone lets look to the future our window is still there and with a few good injections from the draft a few trades and the likes of artimatige, mcevoy stepping up next year that could be us on the podium

my wish list trade week

brad fisher -> x clarke
wojo -> 3rd round pick
leigh fisher + late pick -> okeefe
lovett -> 2nd round pick

keep pick 13

Wouldn't have thought Carlton would be in the market for Xavier Clarke.

We were clearly the best team in 04 just a few things did not go our way.
umps
fans running onto ground
Guerra missing from a metre out.

Out of all the recent prelims, I think 04 was definitely our best chance for a flag looking back on it. We played a great game against Port and it was one of those really close games which could have easily gone either way. Given the way that Port then ran over the top of an injury riddled Brisbane in the GF, you would have to think that we could have done the same if we had made it.

It's true that there were a few factors that went against us in the Port game though, like the shift in momentum from fans running on the ground for the G-train 100 and some poor umpiring decisions that were no doubt influenced by the home crowd moron factor at AAMI. If I recall we also had some important players out injured for that game, such as Hamill, which didn't help either.

As for 05, we had a pretty beaten up side by the end with probably too many injuries to really have a decent chance of beating either Sydney or West Coast. This year we did well just to make the prelims and we were never really a realistic chance against Hawthorn or Geelong.

Yep, agree with that. 2004 was our best chance.

We have never had any luck with injuries in any of the finals series. Even this year we had 5 missing from our best team (Ball, Baker, X Clarke, Dempster, MaGuire)........

Well it's an improvement. Ball and Baker were impact injuries. X has always had dodgy body parts, Goose was a recurring injury.

So only Dempster was the one injury which may have been able to be stopped? I didnt see it so I don't know how he did it. Actually it was probs impact, and ACL's can happen to everyone.

So Mission has been a flipping God to us this year. Sign this guy up for the rest of his life.

Worth keeping just for the work done keeping Max on the ground. :)
I think Gooses foot stress fracture was a complication of his previous broken leg. Apparently the healing process after a major break can weaken the surrounding bones for some time afterwards. :thumbsdown:
Also when you see some of the injuries in the younger players from other teams, it may be good that we didn't overwork our younger players this year. Let them beef up a bit.
