I'm still on cloud 9. Wearing holes into my beanie now.

Few Swans supporters came up to me on the weekend and offered very sincere congratulations and were very gracious. One even said they were happy to lose it to us. Not all whingers and tears.

I've taken my time to post following the win. Was at the game with my dad (60) and sister (30) sitting level 1, on the wing, corner of the centre square. First grand final I've attended and I'll never forget it.

Reason I couldn't post until now is the fact it still hasn't settled in, only enough to form some preliminary thoughts on it. I hugged my family and others in the final minutes of the game, knowing that the game was won. But in those final seconds when the siren blew, I just sat there.

I swear I have never experienced anything like it in my entire life. I sat there feeling like the only person at the MCG although the crowd numbered 100,000. It was the true definition of shock. I left shortly after the siren and walked back to flinders street on my own (the other two stayed around for the team presentation and I had other friends at my house who couldn't make it to the game).

I stepped off the platform at middle footscray station, walked a block and there was my wife and brother in law and with a beer in hand for me, full of cheer. I didnt know what to do, should I laugh? should I cry?

I am unbelievably proud of this team and all they have achieved, I have laughed and cried since.

I am also proud that the manner in which we won it in was entirely bulldogs. We weren't the most talented, the better financed, nor had the highest draft picks - we were not the most experienced, or the bookies' favourites, but we won it anyway - and the tools we used which no team possessed on the same level as ours?

heart
unity
commitment
teamwork
and trust.

I just hope this sinks in before next year. In the meantime I'll keep myself busy with replays.

Cheers all, keep up the great posts.

Had the silver spoon in their mouth so long that they can't handle it when they don't get what they feel they're entitled to.

I think anyone who wants to take away from the joy Bulldogs fans experienced that day must be troubled in some way. I hope they find some balance in their lives.
i got a swan friend who is a good afl fan let alone swan fan and yeah sad his team lost but was happy for all the doggie fans too he would be one of the rare ones , i have never seen him complain about the umpires either

I think the thing that all long term doggies supporters can be confidant of is that very few supporters will ever really be able to feel like we did on the day in October.
Its something that was special and unique in that if you have been like me supporting for 40-50 yrs plus then for a very long time we never believed this day would come. When you live through (and attend) 7 prelim final losses and some agonisingly close games you cant help but feel someone up there dosent like us.
We have had to put up with all the patronising crap from other clubs and how many premierships they have won, how great their clubs are, how poor we are, how we are going to merge etc etc
No one started barracking for the Dogs because they were on top of the ladder or were the most popular club (although that may change now with the young supporters) we know what its like to be down and almost out.
Thats why I say what we have experienced will not have been matched by other supporters.

Lets all enjoy it now and remember the roar on the final siren as no one can take it off us now!!!!!

Did anyone walk down Footscray road to the town hall? Peter Gordon referenced the possibility numerous times in the past years but I didn't hear anything post match. Was it just a myth??

Great post mate. Similar feelings I must admit, although didn't leave the MCG until 9pm that night.
Didn't want the day to end!

We had to put up with a lot, but I knew we were going to win at least one. It has taken too long for my liking, but at least it's happened.
You know what, these other clubs mean squat to me, especially that we are THE PREMIERS 2016!!!

Anyone here able to make GIFs? Parker's marking infringement just after the 2.40 mark:

Is this in the 2nd? There was a play in the second qtr that directly resulted in a swans goal (think it was one of kennedys) where a swans player jumps all over woods back in a marking contest, the ball spills out the back and the swans goal. It's just amazing no one talks about the missed calls for us. Anyway let's not turn this into a salty thread.

EDIT: posted the above before watching the video. It is indeed the incident I thought of. Saw it when I watched the replay and thought "what about that one?"
