As far as a worldwide brand goes I'd reckon

Manchester United > Real Madrid

As far as better football team goes

Real >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Man U

Have now seen it and am ready to argue.

Howard could of/should of done better for the goal, if you are going to go at least get you body behind the ball rather than dive out the way and stick a boot where you body should be.

Still, it's just one goal.

And Tim Howard is Manchester United's answer to Shane Harvey.

Howard's effort was soft, a fearless goalkeeper would've dived straight at the ball and not Gudjohnsen wouldn't have gotten through. Simple as that.[/b]

It seemed to me that he was in two minds over what to do rather than being soft.

Howard has made some stupidly brave saves for us last season, it's harsh to call him soft on the basis of what happened last night.

Man Utd. lacked class last night, all over the field.

It just shows that our squad lacks depth. We'll be better once Ferdinand, RVN, Saha, and Ronaldo return.

Especially up front Alan Smith and Diego Forlan playing up front for the worlds biggest club. Laughable really.

I'm not a Smith fan and I didn't want him at United, but he loooks like he'll be an okay player. He's not the type of player we can build a strike force around, but he's someone who could do well alongside a really good striker like RVN. He seems to be a straight line player though - I really can't see him sending through too many sublime defence splitting passes like Cantona, Sheringham, and Scholes have done for us in recent years.

As for Diego Forlan, someone better tell him that you can't live on a couple of Scousebusting goals. I reckon that we should have just dragged out Solksjaer, told him to stand in any onside position on the pitch, and he still would have played better than Forlan.

I've often wondered if this was a co-ordinated approach, but every time United sign a new player there seems to be a processionat of current players, past players and Fergie that go out of their way to let everyone know just what a good signing he has been. WE had it with Veron, we had it with Forlorn, but Smith is now taking the cake.

In the last two weeks he has been compared (by Fergie) to both Eric Cantona and Mark Hughes. The press has totally fallen into line, and if you go into a pub in Manchester, Smith is getting more support than the likes of Scholes.

Quite amusing really.

Right. Just back from school so here's my belated thoughts on our win up at Goodison. :).

We were okay. At times we played really well but for the most part it was going through the motions - if Arsenal really turned it on I felt we would have probably beaten them 7-0 but we didn't have to. Thankfully.

Bergkamp. What more can you say? The way he's been playing these past twelve months you'd think he can go into 40's. He was sensational yesterday in my opinion, and it is kind of fitting he should get our first official goal for the season. Well done, DB10!

Fabregas was lively as usual. Sure, it was just only Everton but he wasn't really dominated by Gravesen or Carsley at all, and he is only seventeen as well. Flamini was okay, he hasn't played since we played River Plate in July because of the French FA being bastards over his papers, so he wasn't as sharp as he was against River.

The play who really impressed me from our side was Ljungberg. Freddie's got a lot to prove after doing sweet f'all the last two seasons, and with Pennant pushing he has to play well. Timed his runs well as usual so I reckon Freddie'll be in for a productive season thankfully. Good to have both widemen firing.

Boro should be a bit of a test, I doubt we'll beat them 4-1 like we usually do ;)

I think he is much better in a withdrawn role, which is what he'll play when Ruud and Saha come back into the squad. While I'll admit he lacks the real class that top drawer strikers have, you can be sure he'll run himself into the ground and won't back out of anything. While he's not going to break games open consistently, you need players like that in a successful team. That said, I've seen him play some sublime passes and score some cracking goals for Leeds, he's just not the sort to produce some magic every week. Last night Smith didn't look comfortable playing as a target man, but he covered just about every blade of grass.

It was commented that if Smith instead of Giggs had been on the end of Fortune's cross, it would have been a goal. I tend to agree.

I don't know how to rate the Everton-Arsenal match.

Was it a thrashing because Arsenal are so good or because Everton are so bad. Probably a bit of both, but seen as Eveton play West Brom and Palace next, if they don't have at least 4 points on the board IMO, they will implode.

It was a thrashing. Everton only really looked dangerous for fifteen or so minutes when we took the foot off the gas and made the substitutions. Pennant on for Ljungberg took a lot of attacking sting out IMO.

The Smith comparison to ERIC and Hughes was bloody ridiculous. HE's not worthy of licking the dirt off the boots of those two players. About the only comparison that's been made recently that I thought was reasonable was when a few people compared Rooney to Norman Whiteside.

Still, it's been something that United fans have lived with for a long time. We always had those "the next George Best" labels that would get trotted out everytime we signed a new winger. I guess that in the end, the comparisons give some sort of reference point for what the player can do.

AS for Forlan, I remember Red Issue saying that he was like Andy Cole - he could get the odd spectacular goal, but overall, he wasn't reliable. These days, we're saying that Forlan is the new Ralphie Milne.

Look I said this in the other thread a side that looks like this,

Van Nistelrooy Saha
Giggs Scholes Keane Rona7do
Heinze Ferdinand Silvetre G.Neville
Howard

is very good.

However I think if United have to keep fielding sides similar to what they did on Sunday Night, I couldn't even gurantee a top 4 finish. For the first time in a while I think, worrying signs at Manchester United.
