Given how McEvoy was moving today, perhaps not
That's ok, if BigBoy doesn't play we can just get one of the VC's to captain.....oh, wait.......

Omeara, Mitchell, Newcome, McGuiness, Worple, Sheils, Nash

They will all have a go and are good role players but bundled together they are an entire midfield with not one player with elite foot skills (or breakaway pace). It will only lead to mediocrity.

Could Bramble play as a rover? Geez we need to do something different in there.

The kids will hopefully come on, but that takes time. We will need patience.
Yep.
This is and has been our biggest problem for a while now. Out of those 7 we can prob only to afford to play 4. They are all too similar. Newcombe and worps are the first two I pick. Then I'm not sure after that, I am just so out on the Mitchell and O'meara combo. They are a hard watch, its been going on too long.

I have only arched the first 3.5 quarters but from what I saw…

I appreciate our skills were not good but we do so much to put ourselves under pressure. Firstly, we put the pies under no pressure so their ball use looked amazing. When we did get the ball, we were instantly under pressure. Had we put them under pressure from the start their turnovers would have allowed us to get free players and take the pressure off of our skills. Pressure is usually easily fixed. Newk was the only inside mid putting pressure on at anything like the level we need.

Backline look vulnerable after a turnover and often with ball on ground. Too many who are not quite good at it. Looked better when Hardwick came on. I think we don’t want more than three of sic, hartigan, frost, dgb…and maybe even scrim in the backline at the same time.

Still too many times we all go ball. And even when we win it, no one thinks to get on the move or put some space between themselves and the person with the ball (or who will get the ball next). So too often our handballs don’t release a player into space and cause us to make a series of rapid handballs u til we throw it on the boot or turn it over. Just have to do better at getting it to players outside the contest.

I thought bramble provided run but used it poorly. Sic looked a bit rusty.

Loved what I saw from newk, ward and MacDonald. Highlights from many players but just not enough consistency across the board. Bring on next week.

Some early worrying signs for me with DGB. Nothing to do with body shape but rather one-on-one defending and positioning. He lost his man a number of times and overran the footy in marking contests on a few others (cardinal sin as a defender). Saw it a few times last year also and thought hmmm. Still early, I know, but I am seeing him more as a zoning Sicily type rather than a pure 1 v 1 lockdown back.

His positioning is generally very attacking and it was one hell of a wind out there. Wouldn’t be judging a player like him on that game. He is going to get caught out from time to time playing like he does but he is also going to get a lot of intercept marks doing it. A bit like lake In That regard. He needs some time to find the right balance but he is a great student of the game and I’m confident he gets there.

I think the starting defence was

Hartigan
Frost
Scrimshaw
Sicily
DGB
Bramble
Morrison

Don't trust Hartigan, Frost and DGB by foot. Not sure that's the defence we should roll with. I'd be taking out one of Hartigan, Frost or DGB.
Yep, from that you'd add in Hardwick and out of those 3 Hartigan was the worst imo, we'll know more vs the Tiggies but.

I'd run with
Dimma, Frost, Sicily
Scrimshaw, DGB, Jiath

With Day to come back in, Bramble can rotate HB and Wing, Morrison looked pretty good and can rotate Wing and DEF with Impey also.

Agree with that.

Do you see him eventually being a FB, or more a Sicily like interceptor

Agree so much with Stoppage comment.

what about ward and McDonald for something different ?
and Wingard

How’d Jeka & kozzie go?
Jeka was pretty good in the VFL 2 quarters at the end, was hitting targets and showing his athleticism and talent. Kicked a couple i think but did kick inaccurately like everyone did.

Kossie was pretty quiet.

Jeka played a little in the 4th when we mixed the sides up a bit before the full VFL/Kid team rolled out.

That was when Kayo was actually up, i suspect he may of kicked a couple while it was off, but when i came back i did see him miss 1-2? (before/after it) and he def kicked one, before that VFL/Kids 2 quarters he palmed one infront of himself, grabbed it turned around and bullet passed one to Lewis leading on his chest which was good to see, but yeah didn't see it all since Kayo quit.
