I think he will bring quite a bit of melb defensive structures too, often overlooked that was his most recent experience.

I asked about the NGA boys today they said Jake Caton went up in there opinion
was very impressive with his kicking and situation awareness in the training drills
So he maybe another to watch next year, as this training is a good learning point
going into his draft year.

His knee is the main issue, I don’t see how him playing in the ruck damaged that?
I know he has his shoulders strapped, but not sure I remember an injury.
Surprised we have only released the one game. Most teams have released both games
Yeah that’s what I thought and makes sense to fill the gap between their other two games.
Just interesting they didn’t announce it in their games, while some others did.
It looks like Brissy, GC and Pies are going a 3 team setup. Wasn’t sure if that meant Freo weren’t involved in the ‘first week’ of pre season games
It's straight out of the Richmond counterattack gameplan.
The Tigers would often allow opponents to gain spares around stoppage, focussing instead upon setup to force a post-stoppage turnover and resulting scoring opportunity.
Due to Richmond's success, much has been covered and dissected in terms of its function.
Two articles that explain it better than most in easy to understand terms are from C.Atkinson, S.Lawson and J.Coventry at ABC.
(Ironically, counter to both the articles, Richmond obviously lost against Collingwood in the Preliminary Final in 2018 and then went on to win again in 2020 after an average start.)
A post-mortem on the legacy and impact of Richmond's successful tactical approach on the competition by J.Niall was written in 2022.Perhaps the biggest query on implementing a Richmond-style gameplan is in maintaining its defensive integrity in light of recent rule changes, particularly 6-6-6 and the stand rule.
The stand rule came in during 2021, has been anecdotally quoted in some parts that it was brought in deliberately to undo tactics that Richmond were exploiting, and coincides with the end of their period of success.
However, their demise is arguably due to the lack of pace in their defence being exposed by the resultant quicker ball movement, rather than the foundation of turnover-ball being undone.
I suspect this is one of the main reasons why A.McQualter appears fixated upon stacking the defence with pace and mobility, in an attempt to avoid this outcome.
In the aftermath of their Round 3 upset over Richmond in 2021, On the Couch dedicated a good amount of time into how Sydney had made the transition from a back-half defensive team into a forward-half turnover exponent.

I'd like to keep Archer Reid forward and get Lecras or similar to teach him goal kicking fundamentals and Kennedy forward craft.

I really hope McQualter is trying his best to work with what he has and not just shoehorn some gameplan that doesn't suit what we have on the list.
Time will tell obviously, but I guess gaining a consistent competitiveness is a starting point and things can be tweaked from there.

Anyone know when the last training session for December will be?
Haven’t paid too much attention to the draft but watching Jobe’s highlights it feels like he’d be such a waste if he wasn’t a forward. Seems like such an Eagles type forward with his smarts/running patterns as a lead up forward. Also looks awesome flying for marks too.

Long term I’d love to see Shanahan at FF and Archer at CHF. If there’s a spot down back in the meantime that gets them out of the Beagles I’m all for it, provided we don’t ask Archer to ruck.
You’re forgetting Jack Williams who is a few years older than them and is looking like a ripper too.

Agreed. I mentioned a few posts earlier that long term I wonder if JWilliams and AReid can develop their craft enough to both play ruck/fwd in the same team which would free up a spot by not having a specialist ruck.
