Kennelly can't start training until late February, could seriously affect his chances of being in the best 22.

Best 22 isn't defined by fitness, its defined by quality of player. Sure, he may not be Starting 22 for the first few rounds, but he's still in our Best 22.
Exactly. Its for this reason the 23rd, 24th, 25th and even 26th best players on the list can expect to play 10+ games easily (due to injury) and why those types like Shaw and Mattner who people probably underrate and feel are on the slide will play the majority of games.

You are correct, I should have phrased that as the 22 at the beginning of the season. I knew what I was talking about ;).

Very interesting article by John Blakey. I must say it is truly refreshing to see a coach being open and frank about what is going on at training, like that Sam Reid is being groomed for CHF. Sounds like he is right in frame to be a starting 22 player next year. And thank god they're planning to let Goodesy play his roaming role.

Good. He looked a natural at CHF. Has that calming confidence about him as well.

Hopefully in 5 years time White and Reid are a proven deadly duo in the forward line. Johnston is a bit of a wild card at this stage.

I like the concept Blakey spoke of as well about using Meredith across the half forward line. He has clean skills and is good at assessing the offensive play. If he could add to his game by adding more physical pressure when were not in possession that would be great so hopefully there working on that too.

How trippy is this picture?

Injuries are starting to pile up and we're not even into the new year yet. Sigh

LEWIS ROBERTS-THOMSON will miss Sydney's NAB Cup campaign after undergoing minor surgery late last week, but Sydney coach John Longmire is confident his key defender will be ready for round one of the premiership.

Roberts-Thomson had been dogged by a hamstring complaint since the middle of last season. The original prognosis was just a week on the sideline, but he eventually missed six weeks before re-injuring the hamstring at training. That forced him to miss the remainder of the season - a total of nine matches

Hanners is 'flying' on the track according to the coaches.

2010 AFL Rising Star Dan Hannebery has well and truly earned his Christmas dinner after running a huge personal best in the last 3km time trial before the break.
Hannebery came from behind to pass rookie Nathan Gordon in the final part of the race and finish well under 10 minutes on a warm Sydney day.
Hannebery’s time was 20 seconds faster than his previous best - a great result given he had shoulder surgery in late September and had to take it slowly in the early part of the pre-season.

Also think they might have taken a slight dig at Barlow here ;)

Hannebery has not rested on his laurels after winning the AFL Rising Star Award, which excites Longmire.
“Dan is determined to keep improving and learning, and that’s what we want all our players to do,’’ Longmire said.
“But the test for all of them will be when we play. There are no four points for winning the 3k time trial.’’

Just on that, have the coaching staff always trained with the players occasionally. I mean going back to the 70's and 80's. It seems to be a growing trend that more of the coaching staff participate in the training drills/runs. I like it because it flattens the hierarchical feel of a football club (does that make sense?).

Oh if Jesse can have a breakout year it would be amazing.

YOU CAN DO IT!

I can remember Stan Magro running with the Mighty South boys in the late 80's past the front gate in Freo.
Mal Brown did also at South in the late 70's. Back in the days when Maurice Rioli used to box Mark Jacko Jackson's head off at training for being a bit naughty.
T-shirt Tommy liked to do a bit as well.
