I don't think the colour of their skin has anything to do with it.

It's the ideologies they follow.
All religion is mental illness in my eyes but one stabbed multiple women and a baby, the other stabbed 1 guy yet somehow caused way more public outrage? That's just not right

The former, if anything, should have angered the public way more.

I guess the reason for this is we're not islamic so anything done in that name could be avoided by not allowing it in but it's a bit late now. I hate the idea that you flee your islamic (or any belief system/culture) and go somewhere new but want to bring that BS with you. Stay where you were ffs, or go somewhere where it's welcome. That said, if either of these things in isolation deserved an angry mob, it wasn't last night

I wouldn't say it caused way more public outrage at all?

The entire country is up in arms about the first one.

Police Commissioner has used the term “terrorist attack” with religious extremism as a motive.

Disgraceful scenes outside the church by church followers (presumably) trying to seize the boy who was under arrest. Is this Australia?

So people condoned the attack?
I have no idea - what I posted was all the information I have.

It's possible the people condoned the attack. It's possible that those people turned up to counter the other side of the angry mob that turned up. It's possible that we're dealing with two religious groups who blindly put their religious allegiances above all else.

I don't think any group is better than the other, though. All of them seemed to think that outrageous violence, vandalism, looting and general anti social behaviour was acceptable. NONE of it was.

There's no connection to that but yeah some people are still obsessed with covid now or the history of the nonsensical restrictions years ago.

Stabbed Sydney priest is a viral lockdown and Covid vaccine sceptic

The Christian Orthodox bishop who was stabbed in Sydney’s second knife attack in three days is a fire and brimstone preacher known for his anti-LGBTQ views and scepticism over Covid vaccines.

In this day and age, in a country like this, it baffles me that people do this.
It doesn't surprise me at all.

As long as religion has existed, extremism has existed, to varying degrees. Historically it has at times been very prevalent, even dominant, while at other times it has been pushed to the fringes. Social media has allowed the extremism that exists at fringes to percolate and develop quite readily and also to filter back into the general religious community.

When you get people linked by ideology, and prioritising that ideology above all else, it creates a mindset of antisocial behaviour being justified and also encourages a mob mentality.

What social media has done is take these problems beyond religion as well, allowing and encouraging right wing ideologies and conspiracies to flourish in a similar way - think white supremacy, incels, QAnon etc.

A phenomenon I find with the online world is that many people will behave far worse on a keyboard than they would in the real world (keyboard warriors) due to the security and anonymity that being online provides, but on the other hand people will still absorb the things they read online and incorporate them into their real selves. It's a weird and dangerous two edged sword that exacerbates all of these issues when people engage online. They can say anything they want, which others then absorb, and themselves absorb really dangerous things that deliberate inciters mean them to.

The more I read about this situation, the more I see that there was extremism and lunacy in both groups, so it does not surprise me one bit that they ended up clashing in such extreme circumstances. I don't condone any of it. They all disgust me. ETA: It particularly does not surprise me that a group of people who were in support of an anti-vaxxer preacher and frequently disrupted the public health response to COVID decided to engage in a violent mob riot in this situation. While I don't condone the Bishop being stabbed, he needs to have a damn hard look at the sort of behaviour he himself is inciting. He is very much an extremist himself and he is likely responsible for deaths indirectly.

For all that the government had a meeting with faith leaders and asked them to collectively call for calm and denounce things, I think everyone who supports a religion and certainly anyone who preaches and propagates them needs to repeatedly ask themselves some hard questions. It is not, and never has been, in my view, possible to separate out the religion generally from extremism. The moment you teach people to blindly believe in a particular ideology above all else, the moment you are creating problems that will see them potentially support said ideology above safety and community/society.

More carnage outside the church than in it.

The Police Commissioner Karen Webb.

"People used what was available to them in the area, including bricks, concrete, palings to assault police, and throwing missiles at police, equipment, and police vehicles."

"We've had police injured and taken to hospital overnight, and we've had many police vehicles damaged, 20 have been damaged and 10 are unusable."

"This is unacceptable. Police attended the incident in Wakeley last night to assist that community in response to calls for assistance, and the crowd turned on police."

"That is unacceptable and those that were involved in that riot can expect a knock at the door.""It might not be today, It might not be tomorrow, but we'll find you and we'll come and arrest you.""That is totally unacceptable."

Dunno how reliable these guys are but make of it what you will

Apparently this Bishop had a history of not so nice things to say about the Prophet Muhammad and this guy didn't take too kindly to it

You think muslim leaders say nice things about christian identities of faith? Doesnt mean they should be stabbed for it.
