Punk Bands - I need help

For the OP, it might be wise to not go "hardcore" punk straight up. Try easing into it, as was suggested a little earlier in the thread

Bands like Millencolin, Pennywise, Blink 182* (but avoid Enema of the State, far too poppy) Frenzal Rhomb, Unwritten Law and maybe some Greaves era Misfits (which i am loving at the moment)

Then you could also look at some of the greats like Ramones, Dead Kennedys, the Clash etc

*more pop punk, but Enema is the worst

Famous Monsters comfortably sits in my top ten favourite albums.

Really????

I hope walk Amounst Us, Static Age (Legacy of Brutality) and Collection 1 are 7, 8, 9 if Famous Mosnters is 10

They are much better records. I can listen to the Misfits after Danzig left but they are not anywhere near the same band.

I prefer the cleaner sound - not a fan of early punk.

There's a lot of great Australian punk/hardcore going around nowdays.
Miles Away, Break Even, Extortion (all from Perth), Carpathian and Hopeless from Melbourne to name a few.

I'd also recommend Off With Their Heads, Have Heart, Ceremony (especially Rohnert Park) Polar Bear Club and H2O for some more modern stuff

Older punk bands in The Saints and X are also pretty great.
X-Aspirations is my number 1 australian album of all time.

Since the other punk rock threads have disappeared and I am too drunk to search for them properly, this may as well become the punk rock thread.

So in the next 6 months we have the Descendents, Pennywise, Social Disortion touring.

Grinderman for those that are interested in Nick Cave.

I am sure i have missed a few great shows too, but as I said late and drunk are a bad combination for memory. But this is going to be a great summer for us punk rawkers

Agree on the above. However, Pennywise are one of my fav all time bands and i just cant see them being them without Jim on the mic.

I have seen them many times and they are great live but im just not keen to see them without Jim.

I guess it probably wouldn't really be considered punk, more hardcore, but I'm recommending Converge to everyone at present. "Petitioning The Empty Sky" is, quite simply, incredible.

A good thing I've noticed is that a lot of punk/hardcore bands include bands they like or were influenced by in their album thank yous. I find this pretty helpful in finding new bands
