Sydney Broncos offseason report

After 3 months of post-season activity, coach Mark Larson says he is ready to get the team into the full swing of pre-season training now that the list has been finalised and the full squad settled.
"Yeah, yet again, we've had a massive off-season, again going through a record number of player movements, but we feel like we have a side to challenge for a Top four spot."
An amazing 23 players left the club, most to take up opportunites elsewhere, but the Broncos welcomed 20 new players, in an almost desperate attempt to jump from middle of the table upwards.
Sydney shocked many fans when they traded the likes of Nick Dal Santo, David Hille and young gun Mitchell Brown, but managed to snare some big names in the likes of Aaron Sandilands, Andrew Welsh and up-and-coming forward Jarred Moore, who Mark Larson targetted from the beginning.
Sydney added midfield depth in the National Draft, with Luke Shuey and Dan Hannebury likely to get games during 2009, and project forward Scott Reed was drafted with Sydney's last pick, a product of the NSW Scholarship Program. Larson also managed to sway utility Ted Richards and aging midfielder Nathan Eagleton to the harbourside in the Pre-Season Draft after both players came out of contract at seasons end 2008. Larson offered lifelines to axed players Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls and Daniel Dzufer, while Jarryd Blair was a rookie selection
Finally, Kane Johnson has been named captain for 2009, with Dane Swan and Nick Maxwell his deputies

PRESS CONFERENCE

After a fairly disappointing 2008, the Western Vultures and coach sante used the trade/draft/bidding periods aggresively to add some much needed talent and depth to its list. There was a massive turnover in the list, although only 2 years ago, they were near unbeatable.

2009 looks very optimistic with the huge signings of Dean Cox and Paul Chapman, two gun recruits. The Vultures have now got a very good young list capable of anything in 2009, plus a good future ahead with a young intimidating midfield consisting of Nathan Foley, Brent Stanton, Matt Priddis, Garrick Ibbotson, Craig Bird and Clinton Young to name a few.

Gold Coast Crocs 2009 Pre-Season Press Release

After taking the GC coaching job in the late stages of the 2008 season coach sausageroll decided the club would go through a complete makeover leading in to his first of many full seasons in the job.
And he showed immediately that he wasn't afraid of trading his big guns if he thought it could increase his chances of winning a flag as he showed no hesitation in trading away guns like Adam Goodes, Adam Cooney, Daniel Kerr, Aaron Sandilands, Chris Newman and Jed Adcock.

Although losing these players may seem like a step in the wrong direction when you look at the quality of player that has replaced them you can see the logic. Jonathan Brown, Daniel Cross, Lindsay Gilbee, David Hille, Brian Lake, Jarrad McVeigh, David Mundy, Mitch Hahn, Corey Jones and Nick Malceski just for a start and when you consider Gold Coast also managed to snag 4 of the top 13 picks in the National Draft it was clear that things were falling into place.

Hamish Hartlett, Michael Hurley, Tyrone Vickery and Sam Blease were all drafted early while the club was delighted to also nab bargain kpp prospects Liam Jones and Tom Gillies with their two late picks.
Rookies Tom German, Riley Milne and Pearce Hanley were also exciting additions to the team.

We're very happy with our off-season trading and drafting and feel we're going to be one of the teams to beat. Anything less than the 2009 premiership will be a failure and failure is the furthest thing from our plans.

**MORE TO COME**

West Coast Press Release 2009

After a very busy 2008 off-season the West Coast Eagles believe they are now in a prime position to challenge for AFLTM's biggest prize, the premiership cup.

70% of last years list is now playing elsewhere, while the club managed to attract star players in return such as Bryce Gibbs, Andrew Mackie, Travis Boak, Chance Bateman, Tadgh Kennelly, Domenic Cassisi, Jordan Lewis, Kade Simpson, Hamish McIntosh and Justin Koschitzke. With so many big names joining the club it is no wonder that the club's expectations are high.

From all reports, everybody is training hard in the preseason and the new boys Rhys O'Keeffe, Tom Rockliff, Paul Cahill, Nick Salter and Benjamin Speight are showing great enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.

* O'Keeffe is a classy onballer/defender with a penetrating kick, can find the footy and links up well with team mates. Is similar to a Stuart Dew, minus the 10kg.

* Tom Rockliff is a natural footballer, very smart, strong in the hips and reads play well. Also very good overhead, will need to work on fitness to play in the midfield. Plays a similar game to Jason Porplyzia.

* Paul Cahill, tall forward with a good contested mark. Moves well, reads play well but needs improvement in his set shot for goal. Similar to Justin Westhoff but with aggression.

* Nick Salter, can play tall and medium up forward. Great kick, good hands and is a big strong lad.

* Ben Speight, has the potential to become anything in AFL footy. Super quick, excellent foot skills and can play inside and outside with great effect. Question marks over his small stature. Similar to Boomer Harvey.

They have all settled in very well and are all pushing for a spot in the starting 18 for round one.'

In an attempt to fire up all players, loopy released a suspected best 18 and reserves team. He hopes that this will make the players train extra hard to either stay in the best team or force their way into it. The teams he named are below:-

Adelaide Press Release

Fitter Crows ready for redemption

A fit Adelaide Crows line-up are hoping to bounce back to the top this year, only a few months after the dissapoinment of being runners up in last years flag.

With a spate of injuries that took over the club last season, the Crows will not only be fielding new players this season, but also new fitness and medical staff as it looks to approach the season with close to a full squad.

"We are hoping the new medical and fitness staff we have will give us an advantage going into this season. This time last year, we were copping injuries to a few of our bigger names and new recruits and that meant we were never really fielding our best side. It did give the younger guys a great opportunity, but as it the case, as the season goes on these younger types can struggle for fitness and like."

"Hopefully this season, things can get back on track in that department and we can have a full list to choose from come round 1."

More to come.

New beginning for Pies in 2009.

Over the pre-season Collingwood has gained the services of new coach Virgil, and the changes at the club have been profound. In just one draft, Virgil has overturned more than half the list in a bid to revitalise the struggling club. Name players like Jamie Charman, Heath Shaw and Bryce Gibbs have made way for Virgil’s new generation of stars, a move made possible by the fact that Collingwood had just 12 players signed to contracts at the end of the 2008 season.

Among the new wave of recruits is new captain Brendan Goddard, who Virgil put immediate faith in to bring the squad together. Collingwood stalwarts Josh Fraser and Chad Cornes will be his deputies for the 2009 season.

Virgil is confident his new-look team can go all the way in 2009, with the squads depth being one of its stronger points. Virgil has asked all supporters to get right behind the team, who are beginning their premiership assault this week, as they look to a new beginning.
