When you consider all costs including medical, league fees (over 40k alone) electricity & other facility costs, footballs etc it’s closer to $800 per player. That doesn’t include coaching or ground maintenance.

Obviously you can’t charge that so that’s where social club revenue, sponsorship, fundraising and match day revenue come, but it’s as been said on here many times without a profitable licensed venue it’s a battle.

How much have league fees gone up compared to 3-5 or even 10 years ago?

Same for all mate! We need to adjust a few off field costings including player rego and player sponsorship.Its hindering player numbers but its fixable👍.I have brought up the idea of no Colts fees last couple of years to no avail,I think its time to adopt it.What Craig Scrase did back then at Maroochy continues to reap benefits!
And our fees are ridiculous! $500 for a colt here,$90 back home.But as mentioned time again,lots of AFL staff to pay up here!

Yeah $550 actually seems on the cheaper side of some of the fees I've heard previous. If a player can get a sponsor then certainly helps out and makes sense as a tax deduction for the business and possibly even a parent! I have nfi why our fees have that big a discrepancy vs Victoria? Makes no sense as the insurances would be the same.

The margin of 8 points has now occurred 137 times (equal 4th place with 4, 16, and 20 point victories).

Both clubs have now kicked over 250 goals against each other (Morningside 263, Surfers Paradise 255).

Consecutive weeks where a team has kicked 1 goal 8, it is once again not shocking to find this score has never occurred before.
In fact, I have not found any evidence so far that Noosa has ever had a lower score (records back to 1993).
The margin of 87 points has now occurred 30 times.

Labrador 26-18-174 d Mt Gravatt 3-4-22
Played 58: Labrador 27 – Mt Gravatt 31 (1997-2024)
Once again, this score has never occurred before.
The margin of 152 points has now occurred 5 times.
Labrador has scored over 700 goals (718), whilst Mt Gravatt has exactly 800 goals against each other.
The Tigers are on a six game winning streak.

The margin of 32 points has now occurred 115 times.

To sign off this week, how about some details from Labrador’s 500th QAFL game:
  • Their score of 174 was their fifth Highest Score ever (2016 R17: 33-16-214 v Broadbeach)
  • I could be wrong here, but I think this may have been the second Highest Score at Home
  • The margin of 152 points was the second Greatest Winning Margin ever (193 points V Broadbeach 2016)
  • Mt Gravatt’s score of 22 was the equal fourth Lowest Score Against. The lowest ever score against Labrador was registered by Morningside just last week!

"Tradition V Trivia" (for anyone interested):

This is another one of those weeks where historically, at a QAFL level, not much has happened. This is reflected in this one scrap of trivia:
Of the six games this weekend, none have ever met in a QAFL Final. (Plenty at other levels though.)

Round 15

Wilston Grange V Redland Victoria Point
Played 5: Wilston Grange 0 – Redland 5 (QAFL 2021-2024)
Overall 10: Wilston Grange 0 – Redland 10 (1998-1999, 2021-2024)
Because we are now late in the season, some of these notes feel repetitive – and let’s face it, this same game happened only four rounds ago (a narrow 13 point victory for Redland).
The Gorillas have never defeated the Sharks, in either QAFL or BAFL competitions. Across the last four seasons, this will only be the second time that Hickey Park has hosted Redland. The Sharks have only failed to score 100 points against Grange once (92) in the QAFL – and that happened at the sole Hickey Park game.
But fortunes change quickly. This week feels like a great opportunity for the Gorillas to break their duck.

Surfers Paradise V Broadbeach
Played 18: Surfers Paradise 6 – Broadbeach 12 (2014-2024)
A relatively short QAFL history (18 games in 11 seasons) – but still the second most prominent this weekend.
Four of the 18 games have been decided by single digit margins. The Demons won the first contest this season by a comfortable 44 points.
Their history in the Gold Coast League is significant, having run from circa 1971 to 1996. Once the Cats were promoted to the QSFL in 1997, an 18-year hiatus ensued.

Apley V Labrador
Played 15: Aspley 8 – Labrador 7 (2009-2013, 2022-2024)
It’s a close record – but not much to report here. Aspley won the Round 6 game this wear by 43 points.
There have been two results under ten points, and another three by 15 goals or more.

Palm Beach Currumbin V Maroochydore
Played 10: Palm Beach 8 - Maroochydore 2 (QAFL 2011-2013, 2020-2024)
Overall 19: Palm Beach 16 - Maroochydore 3 (2005-2013, 2020-2024)
Another relatively one-sided record – although as has been pointed out previously, rightly or wrongly, I am including “Maroochy/Northshore” results in the records above. When they last met in Round 5 this year, the Lions recorded a 28-point victory in a low-scoring game.
Within the QAFL, there has never been a game decided by ten points or less – although, six games have ended with a ten goal margin.

Noosa V Morningside
Played 5: Noosa 0 – Morningside 5 (2021-2024)
These numbers need time to accrue – and as the most recent participant in the QAFL, it is only fair that Noosa needs more time to build their record.
In Round 8 this year, Morningside produced a 41-point victory. All five games played have resulted in Wins for the Panthers. One game in 2022 had a four point margin – all others have been comfortable, whilst not excessive.

Sherwood V Mt Gravatt
Played 31: Sherwood 10 – Mt Gravatt 21 (QAFL 2001-2004, 2009-2010, 2014-2024)
Overall 89: Sherwood 49 – Mt Gravatt 40 (1968-1982, 2001-2004, 2009-2010, 2014-2024)
There is some historical substance about this clash.
Looking at QAFL seasons, there have been four games with single digit margins, and another five that have blown out in excess of 100 points. At Chelmer, Sherwood has lost their past three games against Mt Gravatt, yet prior to that, the Magpies had a six game winning streak against the Vultures.
Most of the aura about this clash extends back to their SQAFA history. These two clubs met in 13 SQAFA Finals, including 6 Grand Finals. Oddly enough, all Finals were either Semi-Finals or Grand Finals – they never met in a Preliminary or Elimination Final. Really, that serves as an indication of how well they performed in their SQAFA era.
I thought I would have a crack at looking at the aggregated score across both the QAFL and SQAFA records. I cannot determine the Goals and Behinds, as there were many SQAFA games where these details have not been found. And bear in mind also that whilst I have been able to figure out the results, there are still five games where the scores are completely unknown. With all that in mind, it is very, very close across all 89 games (or rather, 84 games where the scores are known): Sherwood 6,898 lead Mt Gravatt 6,828.


As usual, if anyone disagrees with any details, or has more information to share, please let me know – I want to get these records as accurate as possible.
