QAFL 2024 season

And gee whiz Mounties must be looking for that finish line very very soon - thats a big loss to a side in the same area of the ladder.
So AFLQ have given them another year in the QAFL to prove themselves. Which I understand as if they were to drop out of QAFL at this seasons end, they wouldn’t have they players to even be competitive in div 1. As all those youngsters would go elsewhere. Which would just destroy the club.

So I guess my question is what is deemed successful to AFLQ next year for Mt Gravatt?

The player turn around to not just win but to get within 10-15 goals of teams in year is a massive challenge and will not just happen over one off season.

But let’s say a miracle occurs and they win 3-4 games. Do they still drop out with Coops now in? Or is AFLQ giving them an extra year to have some talent to rely on when they do fall out?

I have to admit I’ve thought same about Morningside over achieving but their win/loss having them on top of the ladder doesn’t lie so they have to be genuine. Probably find out how genuine this week with the Aspley game.
It will be an interesting game because their win/loss record includes 6 wins against the bottom 3 teams. I reckon Aspley have played the bottom 3 teams only once each. Not that is any fault of Morningside's.
Top of the ladder and at home, they would have to go in as favourites, but it should be a cracking game. Especially given that last time they played Aspley, Morningside had a few of their better players out.
I see Aspley brought Labrador back to earth with a thud yesterday, after Labrador had 2 big wins and appeared to be in good form.
Hopefully QAFL have it as match of the round on the livestream.

Yeah I was expecting and at times it looked like that Morningside would just blow the young Tigers away! Love watching that Downie,he’s a class forward! Noosa very young but had a real crack far better than last week!
And the experienced boys Fitzpatrick,Freeman,Flagg and Pettigrove were really good again!
And agree be an interesting watch next week Panthers v Aspley!

Yea that’s a pretty favourable draw for sure.

Round 15 Results

The Matter that’s Stuff

Some competitive games, and one particularly brutal result. Here are the QAFL Scorigami references for Round 15, plus other potentially useless scraps of local trivia:

Redland Victoria Point 13-13-91 d Wilston Grange 10-10-70
Played 6: Redland 6 – Wilston Grange 0 (QAFL 2021-2024)
Overall 11: Redland 11 – Wilston Grange 0 (1998-1999, 2021-2024)
This score has occurred twice previously:
1989 R13: Sunshine Coast 14-7-91 d Sandgate 10-10-70 at Lemke Road *
1999 R17: Labrador 13-13-91 d Broadbeach 10-10-70 at Ashton Street
The margin of 21 points has now occurred 112 times.

Surfers Paradise 16-10-106 d Broadbeach 14-8-92
Played 19: Surfers Paradise 7 – Broadbeach 12 (QAFL 2014-2024)
This score has occurred once previously:
1980 R12: Sandgate 14-22-106 d Mayne 13-14-92 at Lemke Road
The margin of 14 points has now occurred 109 times.

Aspley 20-17-137 d Labrador 5-6-36
Played 16: Aspley 9 – Labrador 7 (2009-2013, 2022-2024)
This score has never occurred before.
The margin of 101 points has now occurred 23 times.
This is the first time this match-up has resulted in a margin of 100 points or more. It is the second highest score between the two clubs – the highest score was Labrador’s 20-20-140 in their first ever meeting (2009).

Palm Beach Currumbin 17-8-110 d Maroochydore 11-12-78
Played 11: Palm Beach 9 - Maroochydore 2 (QAFL 2011-2013, 2020-2024)
Overall 20: Palm Beach 17 - Maroochydore 3 (2005-2013, 2020-2024)
This score has occurred once previously:
1988 R14: Morningside 16-14-110 d Southport 11-12-78 at Hawthorne Park
The margin of 32 points has now occurred 115 times.

Morningside 14-13-97 d Noosa 9-13-67
Played 6: Morningside 6 – Noosa 0 (2021-2024)
This score has occurred twice previously:
1953 R14: Coorparoo-Yeronga 12-25-97 d Sandgate 9-13-67 at Perry Park
1967 R3: Sandgate 13-19-97 d Windsor Zillmere 10-7-67
The margin of 30 points has now occurred 113 times.

Sherwood 31-18-204 d Mt Gravatt 1-2-8
Played 32: Sherwood 11 – Mt Gravatt 21 (QAFL 2001-2004, 2009-2010, 2014-2024)
Overall 90: Sherwood 50 – Mt Gravatt 40 (1968-1982, 2001-2004, 2009-2010, 2014-2024)
Thankfully, this score has never occurred before.
The margin of 196 points has now occurred 3 times. A score of 30 goals or more for one team has now been achieved in 139 games.
Simultaneously, between the two clubs, this is the highest score ever and the lowest score ever. This includes SQAFA clashes. The only comparable result was Round 12 of the 2002 AFLQ Season when Mt Gravatt 26-18-174 defeated the Western Magpies 1-3-9.

Hopefully, we can get a bunch of 1-point victories next weekend. Or what about a draw…..

(* This was one of only six wins recorded by the Sunshine Coast/Caloundra team in their two seasons in the competition. Their first year was relatively competitive with five victories.)

I was asked a question today (which I was happy to receive): What is "More Of The Kangaroo"?

I've mentioned it a couple of times over the past few weeks. It is the history of Australian Football in Queensland from 1866 to 2016. Across 1,100 pages, it covers both the QAFL competition (about 40% of the book) and a summary of all other regional comps across Qld (the remaining 60%).

If you are interested in obtaining a copy at a greatly reduced price, please let me know. Also, happy to discuss additional discounts for club bulk purchases.

If Grange get all the VFL players they are playing grand final day.

Grange vs Aspley
What VFL players were missing last week from Grange playing VFL?

Think Lions VFL playing finals again this year and going on past history they will use plenty of top ups no matter what expense to a QAFL Club.

I think he pulled up and walked over the boundary about halfway through the first quarter. Didnt look too severe but impossible to know from just watching.

Personal thoughts re Grange as a GF prospect: I think they've played close to full strength for most of the last few weeks - seeing Martin, Gordon, Budarick there with Mathieson, Bowles, Lanthois, Fazldeen most of the time. Definitely very strong when on-song but they're still not beating everyone. At this point I'd tip they might be about Preliminary Final level again this year. I think that young curly-headed kid (not Fidler who's also very good, but the other taller one) could be worth giving more experience in attack eg maybe CHF - he looks really really talented.

For a Grand Final tip: Aspley and ... dunno ... might go out on a limb and suggest Morningside will get there.
Funny thing is, I'd tip Aspley to again win a GF, but ANY team that ends up lining up against them - be it RVP, Morningside, PBC - could consider themselves equals on that day.

Been an entertaining season for difficulty guessing who of the strongest teams will win on any given day.
