Agree. But that’s never stopped clubs previously 😅 an absolute war chest makes it easier.
Most Melbourne suburban competitions have their Premier Competition/Div 1 as a Promotion/Relegation set up which eliminates the MtGravatt issue.

But up here we have never done it but tried it at Community level which I wasn’t a huge fan of as at that level had major issues trying to enforce at that level.

But if we got a really good Div 1 set up for Clubs with ambitions to play QAFL then it could work better. Gives chances for clubs to exit and rebuild to work back as well.

That way could get QAFL back to 10 Teams and Div 1 could be a 9 or 10 Team Competition as well.

Agree. Have always felt it’s the best way of clubs rising/ falling to their levels and it also assists clubs to get some silverware at some point if they get their house in order.

Well to be honest Freddy it could work very well for the initial reduction to 10 with the current 13 battling off for the QAFL status, with 3 to drop to Div 1 in 2026 and then maintain a constant pressure on those clubs above in QAFL to produce what AFLQ calls its “flagship” competition.

Other than Sandgate and UQ who were in QAFL. What other teams have the criteria on and off the field to even think of going QAFL from div 1?

Springwood been quite successful with a few premierships in the old north/south div 1 comp and the most recent structure. But I suggest facilities and not having a strong junior base might be the issue. As well as the proximity of other QAFL clubs.

Hinterland will never enter so long as Maroochydore and Noosa are in.

Mayne is hamstrung by being close to Grange and Aspley. But they have two fields and seniors and ressies have a few premierships with them lately. Wonder what is stopping them.

Beenleigh is prime area if you want a Logan team. But player retention is hard for them. Especially being middle ground between Brisbane and GC. Could try and revitalise the old Logan Cobras. But heard the cricket club there wasn’t very helpful when the club tried to start again a few years back.

Of course I’m not saying any of these clubs haven’t tried or thought about it. More so if we make div 1 a stepping stone for QAFL. What would those clubs need to do.

Being sustainable in QAFL takes years and years of work! Think about coops, they have been at the top of Div 1 for many years now and almost everyone is forecasting a bottom three finish in their first year.

Not sure any club would be anywhere near it. Just having a gap in QAFL location and/or money does not translate to success unfortunately.

The reality of it all is. 13 teams is too many, they have 1 too many teams in each sector. Everyone knows who the Brisbane team is, and on both coasts you strong clubs across the board that wouldnt deserve to be booted . This is where the idiots at hq have painted themselves into corner, the 2 other teams that really should be dropped don’t deserve to be dropped

Why don’t you say what clubs instead of alluding to it ?

See Broadbeach have got the 2 Djenes brothers back and the big news is Liam NuggetNelson is back,, 2021 flag player, Joe Grant medalist, has been FIFO to victoria for the past 2 seasons where he has won the best and fairest bothe seasons. Broady appear to be building very nicely but nothing has been reported about which players have departed

He is the perfect suburban footballer imo. Hands like a gorilla, always been a super cont mark. With the reduced pressure on his goal kicking reckon he will kick a hundred if the ball comes in often enough. No one will be able to go with him 1 on 1
My Gravatt full back might have a rough nights sleep the night before that one
