QFA Div 1

If memory serves correctly, thjey din't have Colts.

They had QAFL Seniors, QAFL Reserves, QAFA Seniors, QAFA Reserves, and QAFA b (Friday night)

5 senior sides
I reckon they had QAFL colts but then there was that whole north & south arrangement with all clubs for a year or so when it moved to U19.0 for a couple of years

Have heard that, could be a bit of a depth issue for them this year, still have some very good upper level talent but especially in this league if your 15th-25th best players aren’t up there could spell for a long year especially if injuries happen as they did with Beenleigh last year
Only 1 player to Jindalee from the Buffs 2023 list .Brodie Murdoch is signed for 2024 with the Buffs and has been training .

From memory we had seven teams at one point: two in QAFA A, two in QAFA B, Colts, a Friday night team and a women's team. When we went into the QAFL we dropped the QAFA B squad and added the second women's team around then. When we dropped out of the QAFL (2017 I think) we lost the Colts but have maintained a loose affiliation with Wests Bulldogs since.

Roughly half our players would be current students, then 30-40pc alumni and the rest have no affiliation with the uni at all.

there were a few years there where you didn't have to have Colts in the QAFL, but UQ always had them anyway. They kept messing with the age group (mainly for one particular club if I remember correctly) and then in Sandgates last year in the comp, they didn't have Colts.

Ever since then it has been mandatory and remains so (as far as I know)

What was the reasoning for moving away from the old field at the front. Which now doesn’t have any footy goals on it. To near the back of the uni? Was it a cricket lease issue? Was pretty good spot being right at the front of the uni. Small ground though.

Club received a grant to build new facility around where it is now. Old field didn't have much in the way of a clubhouse plus the changerooms and bathrooms were dated / insufficient. New changerooms include home and away for men's and women's plus two umpire rooms on the Aussie rules side, plus a similar set-up for soccer (which also has a first aid room). The clubhouse is also new, albeit is a uni facility and we share it with soccer.

Not sure if the new field is bigger or smaller compared to the old field. But it would be one of the smaller SEQ senior footy ovals at a guess. Old field is used for touch footy, cricket and ultimate disc I believe.

I think part of the move was also that the Uni had plans to pull down the daycare centre (next to the old field) and build some big student accommodation across the whole site. They did the demo work but don’t seem to have pushed on with the construction yet.

Took quite a few years to get a proper home field during that process. They played everywhere else but their ‘new ground’ until around 2020 or so. But them playing at West Juniors would have really helped build that pathway from juniors to seniors.

Love this work. Would be great if this comp was more active with its acquisitions on social media rather then having to wait till round 1 but I guess where is the fun in that for some clubs 😂

I always like round 1 to see which clubs have kept the cards close to the chest and the ones who have posted signings to generate interest.

Looks like it will be another good year.

Coorparoo seem to be on a signing trend at the moment. Seems to be some quality players from top div 2 teams and others returning back to the club. You’d think they’d want to have some more silverware leading into QAFL, especially since both their seniors and ressies lost the GF last year. Along with their 3rds as well.

Been told a number of good ones come into Caloundra this year. They r very happy with their off season.
Dylan Pascoe from hinterland also training there. He’s a bloody good footballer

Yeh. Would hope they win a 3rds flag before considering a QAFL move.

Caloundra do always tend to pick up more than a few handy ones, especially from Victoria. Can’t blame them who wouldn’t want to live on the sunny coast and play footy 😂

Pascoe was one of hinterlands best last year so that is a massive pick up for them and massive loss for hinterland. Hinterlands probably 3 of their top 5 players now gone will hurt them a lot.

Well we all know that premierships aren’t won on paper. We saw that last year when they were undefeated all year and lost the big one in 4 grades. Probably do deserve to be the favourites again but in this comp I think it would be very unwise to right off anyone from having a sniff at the title.
