It’s interesting how some Saturday clubs treat their thirds. Or the development development squad. As some clubs use them as a proper 3rds team to fill their reserves and perhaps even player relegation.

Then you have other clubs where the thirds are their own entity and have nothing to do with the senior squad and vice versa. Which is interesting since most of the time the head coach is usually formerly or currently involved with the senior squad or club in some aspect.

Calling ya reserves development is embarrassing. Play ressies drunk bevies!
Agreed. Leave that garbage to QAFL. There’s absolutely no way ultimate 40+yr olds are “developing”.

If you’re going to run a “development” program, give it an age bracket, a development plan and promote it as the opportunity to play senior football through said development… anything else is just ressies footy!

Woodies is a mixed bag. Definitely a few that are capable of paying Ressies, but usually 30+. Then some people who miss out on ressies play in the 3rds, kids that miss out on Colts also play 3rds, and some weeks anyone hanging around with a pair of boots gets a game!

When do the Woodsmen start training?

April. (or when a coach is appointed)

I see Pacific Pines have posted that they have a their second team. Which I assume would be the same for Moorooka and Eagles?

Considering there are about 7 or so teams in the GC comp. Does that mean the other teams play both Pac Pines teams multiple times. Whilst I assume their second side will be far weaker. What happens if they also make finals?

It will be same as juniors. You’ll have to nominate players to each team. To
Play on the other team would be the same as a match day permit which would make them ineligible to play finals. The comp manager would have to approve each permit. After June 30 they’d be set in their teams.

Seems like the locality based comps are already under threat?

Yeah I understand the ‘restricted list’ like back in juniors. However my question is what happens if that second team makes finals? It’s unlikely but just curious to know what happens if they somehow have to play each other in a final.

On top of that. Is that their second team will be weaker. So does that mean that Southport and Ormeau will get the better Pac Pines more often and the lower teams like Coomera and Carrara get the second pac pines side more? And that question extends to the second Ipswich Eagles and Moorooka sides. Will they play the lower teams more?

Hopefully it’s simpler than I’m making it out to be lol.

It will be up to the clubs how they pick their sides. Then from there it will be match day permit rules

Why would it be that clubs with two sides who have ambitions to play Saturday footy again not just play Saturday footy?

Surely aflq would require the proof of registrations for them to have 2x sides for Fridays anyway.

Just seems very unnecessarily grey now.

Gee there’s an obvious point

The key will be the transition to Saturday when half of them are unavailable as can only play Fri nights.

But yes if you can raise two sides for night time why aren’t you straight into Sat footy?

We don’t even have firm draws for any Sat comp below QAFL so may as well go straight to Saturdays

Ah, the Freddy footy club blueprint. Success is always assured.

How did announcing going to straight to Saturday footy go for Jimboomba? Last year Pine Rivers did it okay, not so sure with Zillmere in year one.

Absolutely it makes sense to see if you could get the numbers in your squad before committing.
