QLD Floods

Let's roll. Don't know the practicalities of any fund-raising but I'm in for a ton. This is every bit as shocking as Black Saturday. Little kiddies drowning, so many missing, if money is all I can give right now that's a start. My thoughts are with all Queenslanders, wonder if any BFers up there can give us personal reports?

Second that :thumbsu:

Bluebear, you still got that Bushfire account left open? Perhaps change it to a Qld flood account and see how much we can raise for Queensland

A very tough time for so many Qlders, made worse by the tragic loss of a number of lives. The vision coming out of Toowoomba & the Lockyer Valley is so hard to watch. Not forgetting what we have also seen from so many regional towns in Qld.

We have been very fortunate/blessed here on the Gold Coast in only receiving a fraction of the rain that has fallen on so much of Qld in the last couple of weeks.

We have friends in Ipswich who have been affected by the floods & a close work colleague of mine had her home inundated by flood water on the northside of Brisbane today. I have yet to hear from a number of other work colleagues who reside in Brisbane who went home early to battle the floods & avoid road closures.

We have lived through a number of floods in Qld over the last 25 years, 2 of which directly impacted us in the '90s, but none have been as severe or widespread as what we are currently witnessing. It would seem the worst of the rain has gone, but the major threat to Brisbane & Ipswich is to come in the next 24-48 hours as the floodwaters make their way down stream.

Our thoughts & prayers are with everyone who is in any way affected by these latest floods.

I'm with Thy on this one... I have a bunch of friends (and pseudo-family) up there around the Townsville area. I semi-stay in touch with them on Facebook.

I havent been paying that much attention to it, but when it makes the news over here in Pommyland, then I do start paying attention.

If someone wants to start up a fund, I am in for some come payday...

Lets start helping these people out

Harv3y lives quite close to the Brisbane River if I am not mistaken. Chief has had to evacuate, but hopeful the water will only be lapping at his front door if current predictions ring true.

I am safe where I am.

My wife has family in Toowoomba and her parents grew up there. Pretty town, very sad.

Normally read rather than post on Carlton board - usually throwing grenades in SRP when on BF, but time for an exception. My thoughts are also with all those affected including the tireless emergency workers.

I'm also in if we start a fund here.

My family opened an account to combine our family and friend's donations. We have a lot of family in QLD, 99% of whom are fine with the only part of that isn't already in Melbourne for Christmas-New Year break and has extended their stay so physically they'll be fine and last we heard they were in a similar position to Chief - if all goes as predicted they'll have a bit of a clean up but nothing dramatic.

I'm relatively new to this forum compared to a lot of you and so I lack the posting history but I'm quite happy to go about collecting for everyone if no one else is willing to do it. I'd like to extend the offer to the other forums as well. I understand if my join date scares people off. Just an offer since my family and friends are already in the process of doing something pretty major.

A massive thankyou to all keeping us in your thoughts down there. I'd say you're better off to donate directly to the QLD premiers relief fund @ http://www.qld.gov.au/floods/.

Any Blues fans living up here, if you're close to 7 Brockman Street, Stafford, or Shamrock Street, Darra, they desperately need sandbagging volunteers. Anyone down south worried about loved ones, 1300 993 191 is the number to call. Here's hoping the flash floods they're reporting will strike Melbourne over the next few days are nowhere near as devestating.

Thanks for all of the wellwishes Blues fans. It's pretty crazy up here at the moment...

Yesterday my building was evacuated in the CBD along with all other riverside buildings. The city is a ghost town and people are buying supplies like it's Y2k. Went to the supermarket last night, no eggs on shelves, no milk, no bread, no pasta or meat. All the large water containers were sold too. I recently moved from Kangaroo Point to the Yeeronpilly on the southside and pictures of the '74 floods show the water stopping 50m from our house so I think we will be fine. However, most major roads have been blocked off so the possibility of getting to work on the Northside today is slim to none.

They've predicted that the high levels of the Brisbane river will be around until Saturday at least. Releases from Wivenhoe Dam mixing with the water from T-ba (check out some youtube clips it's unbelievable) will be pretty devistating for any suburbs on the river.

I've been in Thailand for the last month so I've missed most of the rain but since we got back on Sunday it hasn't stopped. This morning however, blue skies.. which is kind of eerie as we're all preparing for the worst. You can hear choppers in the air and judging by facebook there's not a lot of people going to work today.

I have lots of friends and family all over Brisbane and it's very sad reading their updates of evacuation and not being able to contact family. The phone networks and train lines are down, Energex is shutting off power to the CBD today and many suburbs were losing power yesterday.

I wish everyone well and hope that their families and properties remain safe.

PS. This morning we found a chook under our house :|

The north-west of Brisbane is pretty grave. A friend had to hear the news that his home would be under a meter of water in several hours. Towoomba yesterday lost its cellular coverage, making it very difficult for friends and family outside to know they're ok.

Northern Rivers area of NSW will also be a mess. My wife was driving to our Qld home yesterday intending to stop overnight in Coffs, but the reports indicated that the Pacific Hwy would close between Grafton and Yamba sometime overnight so she pushed on, was diverted around Grafton via Casino and got through before the floods blocked the highway. Highway now closed in a number of places between Coffs Harbor and Ballina as are the detour roads she took so I think there is no Sydney Brisbane traffic getting through (inland route via New England Highway also blocked at Warwick in QLD which is also underwater as is Tenterfield in NSW) so if you are intending to drive between Syd and Bris check the RTA website as the roads at this point are all blocked.

I didnt want her to go but her son has his first job interview on Friday up there and she didnt want to not be there. She got home to the Sunshine Coast Hinterland at 3am and is safe. We are up in the hills so are not so affected but there is flooding all around our place down the mountain. Not sure yet if the Maroochy River is flooding, but if it does we may get cut off from some areas. Wife will probably sleep half the day but I will give more reports when I find out. (I am still in Gosford, no issues here, I couldnt go as I have to fly to the US on business next week but I may fly up on the weekend)

There was major flooding about 100km north of our place at Gympie and 50km south at Caboolture and now of course all over Brisbane. Its very hard to not be affected anywhere between Coffs Harbor and Cairns and there are also reports of flash flooding in western Vic as well. On top of the already tragic loss of life, there is talk that as a percentage of GDP this natural disaster is bigger than Katrina was to the US. Hundreds of thousands of lives will be directly impacted.

Got paid today and will donate.

Stay safe QLDers :thumbsu:

Good work. My wife thankfully has a far more generous spirit than I and upped the $50 we spoke about to $100 yesterday.

Doesn't look like the group donation will get off the ground, but if some of the images coming though can't motivate individuals to part with a bit of the folding stuff...well I just hope they are never have to face a similar situation.
