QLD Floods

Anyone who just wants to donate and is in Melbourne's CBD I've been told you can hand over cash at Myer. Myer's DAILY money is sent to the Premier's fund at the end of the day.

Thanks for the well-wishes and donations everyone. I live in Toowoomba and to see this happen about 2km down the road from my place is just shocking. Thankfully nobody I know was hurt but my heart goes out to all the families of those killed or missing. At least 2 of my friends have had floodwaters severly damage their house and I know many others who have also had minor damage. So yeah donations are much appreciated because this region has been absolutely destroyed. The rain's let up for now and let's hope it stays that way.

As was posted on the previous page the SINGLE ABSOLUTE BEST way of donating is to donate through: http://www.qld.gov.au/floods/.

That will guarantee EVERY CENT will go to the right place.

About to donate the almost $6,000 my family and friends have put towards this so far.

Having lived in QLD for a little bit this is mentally devastating. I know so many people affected by it.

Just saw this on Facebook

ATTENTION BRISBANE RESIDENTS: Storage king has just put out an offer for those who live in Brisbane affected by floods for free storage, they have trucks and trailers available to help evacuate just call 1800storage. Paste this on your page let's get the word around guys

Yes well regardless of which party is in charge, thankfully our government is much better at helping its citizens than the US....smell the patriotism folks!

Agree.....watching some of the devastation, I commented that it was like watching New Orleans all over again...my husband said, "yes, except we know what we are doing and how to help, they had no idea!"

Cheers and many thanks guys:)

...p.s the above photo of the baby and pilot is so beautiful and touching, and he looks so protective of his tiny little bundle..

A couple of posts I made on CSC that give a small picture.

From last night,
Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers everyone, not as much for me as for all those who are a lot worse off than me.

I am safe but misplaced, I drove down to Brisbane on Sunday from Hervey Bay (yes I managed to get through) hoping to be able to get back today. With hindsight I was being a little over optimistic.

I rang the police today and they told me that there was little chance of me getting home before Friday. That's at least 3 days of work I will miss.

The drive down on Sunday was a real eye opener, I've only been in Queensland less than 4 years, but I have never seen so much water, lakes where paddocks once were, creeks and rivers where you couldn't even tell where the original banks once were, towns like Maryborough and Gympie have main st's 5-6 feet under water, now Toowoomba, Ipswich, Brisbane are being affected, and the rain hasn't stopped yet !!

Even towns like my home town of Hervey Bay are being affected, we don't get any major flooding but we are losing major tourist dollars, as well as fuel and milk shortages, so it's affecting everyone in some way.

My prayers and thoughts go to those worst affected, those families who have lost the lives of loved ones, homes and business's.
And this afternoon
I think the police are telling fibs just to keep people off the road. I made it home today thanks to a friend who told me about a few back roads I could use.

I thought Gympie was bad on Sunday, it's much much worse now, the Bruce Highway between Gympie and Maryborough is like driving through a ghost town with most people believing there is no way through. Maryborough also has a main bridge aprox 2m under water, some of the sights are .......... I don't have words...

Stay safe everyone, and all the best !!

Thanks for the kind words Thy.
I am okay for those that care.

Unbelievable up here, seems as soon I got back it has started. The amount of destruction is that big, this state is going to feel the effects of this flood for a long time.

Family and friends were panicking like you wouldnt believe, being a 20 year old by himself in Queensland doesnt help.

These kinds of sitations show the how wonderful this country is, support has been unbelivable people just helping strangers.

Just been helping some mates outside of Brisbane CBD, with sandbags. When done had to do another 6 hours of moving furntiure moving, sandbags for just other people I didnt even know in the street.Discussing some of things with these people was eye opening, and gives me a sense of perspective.

Our apartment has now become a frat house, with 10 people now sleeping in a 2 bed apartment but sleeping on the floor is the alot less worse than what some of these other people are going through.

Was heartbreaking hearing on the news just then of the old man who was deaf and didnt even know what was happening outside

Was absolutley disgraced to hear of the 2 men arrested for looting, I would love to have a few minutes alone with them.

Thoughts and prayers go to all involved in the flood.

That's an awesome effort Wickzki :thumbsu:

This :thumbsu: It's times like this that remind you what a wonderful giant community we all live in. The premiers relief fund is currently up to $35.8m, $1.5m up on the same time yesterday. The response has been amazing. Volunteers were actually being turned away from some sandbagging stations yesterday because there were already more than enough there. I took this snap this morning, after flooding receded on Vores Rd. It seemed so apt. Knocked down, but we won't be beaten, and given time we'll be back, better than ever.

I have seen a lot of things in 46 years...

Floods, fire, sandstorms and cyclones...

It never ceases to amaze me how in times of adversity, no matter what creed, colour or religion anyone is, all Aussies seem to step up to the plate and put it all on the line to help each other and care about each other.

And we are always there to help out other countries as well in their times of natural disaster.

We are all truly members of the lucky country.

You're right, that is absolutely disgusting to hear people have been looting.

Good of you to give a few people a place to stay.
Agree, cannot understand the mentality of looters taking advantage of people in this situation - pathetic and disgusting.

Thankfully the majority of people are out there helping and caring for others.

Cheers all for the lovely messages. Myself and family are all good, we are in quite a high area about 10 minutes outside the city.

Words can't describe the scenes at the moment, it's just not really happening is it? I am very scared to see what happens when the water subsides, lots of damage done which do not know as of yet.

Thanks for all the messages and donations...we are a tough bunch us QLDers and will never give in!

Guys, this thread really pulls at the heart strings. I can only imagine how those in the affected areas feel, and what you are dealing with.

I hope you and your families are all alright, and hope you all pull through.

All the best!

Just so hard, because you really want to help but you just dont know where to go.

Some places have too many voluteneers, where else in the world would you get people of all walks of life coming together to help each other out.

If any other Qld's near Brisbane need help or are helping at a paticular places, feel free to PM me because I have a bunch of strong (me) 20 year olds that would be willingly.

The Mayor of Ipswich, Paul Pisasale, summed it up best when he suggested that when caught, the looters should be used as flood markers.

low water flood markers :D head height above the ground I think :D
