What a terrible tragedy..My heart goes out to Dixon family, he was a top bloke. I remember when he played for us, a good player, but such a nice person to boot!! Far too young, and to lose a son is just horrendous.
My sympathy to all the family on their loss. His loss will be felt by many in the football world..

I was lucky enough to meet Rob a few years back, just to say g'day, fine man - took time to have a chat, loved the Hawks and looked like he always had a new idea to pursue. (As he proved over the past years with his docos).

Tragic and a waste of great talent that we'll never see more of now.

Sympathies to family and friends.

Absolutely terrible loss.
I never met him, but I work within the AFL industry, and he and his work are universally praised and respected.

He had a real talent for taking the intangible wonderful things of our game and presenting them visually.

The video he made of Geelong's GF win over Port (never aired publically, I saw it at the AFL season launch), was far and away the best AFL video package I've ever seen, and probably the best sports video of any sort I've ever seen. It was that good.

RIP Rob and Byron.

Still stunned over this.

'Essence of the Game' takes on a special aura now. Rob had a talent for the story, the ability to capture, cut and package, and the fact that he did it with the club he loved is a beautiful gift to us.

Life can be short and cruel hey. Makes you take a fresh look at those that share your space...

Condolences to Dickson's surviving family, and his friends in the football community.

The documentation of the game, which historically has been the province of the commercial networks, will be much poorer for his demise. :(

.

Our world has lost a man of unique creative talent.

Rob and and his little boy Byron both gone to the great Hawthorn Football Club in the sky but so much too early.

I did not know him as he is of a later generation of my days at the club but from an omniscience stance I felt his presence.

Very upsetting.

Huge loss for his family and the HFC, R.I.P champ

Gut wrenching news, just so so sad for his family, friends and everybody that appreciated the unique perspective he brought to his footy documentaries.
He has a page on I.M.D.B. [international movie data base] and I have posted a condolence note. Maybe some footy fans would like to visit his page if only because he was so bloody passionate about his films. Way too young, way too much left to do, R.I.P. Rob.
