Of course they'll survive. Last week's selection basically cements our preferred 25 in stone, it's now a matter of getting continuity into them. It's all about ignoring development and putting everything into the 4 points each week. Just ask yourself, "what would Neil Craig have done?".

You are really committed to this eh?

The cold reality is there is no preferred 25 and hasn't been all year. It might have been better for us if there was a preferred 25 seeing how scatterbrained we've been with selections and how devoid of any planning they've had.

After all, (at least) 36 players used by the half way point and we've had a charmed run injury wise.

I don't actually disagree with Milera. We have him till 2025. We need to give him as many AFL games as possible this year. Let him get his confidence and feet back and fingers crossed he stays healthy. Another injury free preseason and fingers crossed he comes good in 2023.

And if his body is shot or he's not physically ready, how does him being putrid each week increase his confidence levels? This is an absurd position. And then what of "selection integrity"? Whatever happened to that, although I never really though it would apply to any other than the early career players. So Milera being gifted games when performing shit would fit our version of it quite perfectly.

Rowe and McHenry should stay in
Ned is a weak little boy that misses basic shots on goal..
Can't stick tackles..
Has rubbish skills..
He makes ZERO difference to the team.

If Ned wasn't picked in the 1st round by us he wouldnt even be playing at SANFL level.

We are a bottom 4 team and he is part of the problem not the solution.

Look at the ladder.

Wouldn't look to hard into Newchurch's reaction, he was one of the first to pat him on the back earlier in the video.
He probably deserves to be a little pissed..

Rowe, Murphy and Mchenry have kicked a total of 15 goals among as “small forwards”..

Murphy has kicked 1 goal all season.. the other two 7 each.. absolutely deplorable returns really.. especially our chaotic forward entry strategy should favour small forwards with lots of ball ending up at ground level..

Newchurch has kicked 13 in the SANFL and hasnt had a look in..

Turner selected with our first pick in the MSD.

Just what we need, another midfielder who we will play on the HFF.

The Bedwetters have been up and about this afternoon.

Dropping Thilthorpe is a disgrace, we never give Kids a go (despite playing the highest number of KIDS in the AFL over the first half of the season).

Net Result;

Thilthorpe is playing 😃
Parnell to debut 😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃

After getting everything so wrong with Murphy (apology accepted BTW), shouldn’t you calm down?

And the caps lock thing is so 2019

It's not about goals, it's about pressure. The smalls are there to stop the ball getting up the other end so their forwards can score.

Laird had 14 clearances, 8 tackles and 20 contested against Geelong. Yeah his kicking isn't good but whoever he feeds it out to isnt much better, he will and should stay in the midfield. He was terrible the last time he was at HB to the point we played him HF before moving him into the midfield.
I agree re Laird’s performance in the midfield and I’d still run him through it at stages, but the aim of that team was to boost its size and see how it goes. Just as it was a good experiment putting Laird on ball in 2020 - so I’d hope Doedee could open up options for us and we’d be better for it in the future. Dawson, Cook along with Keays also add size.

Rachele missing three weeks in a row means he will have to come back via the SANFL. I guess Milera will get a few games in a row now.
I don't mind us resting Rachele as he needed a break... so long as we bring him in quickly after the bye.

So has Parnell jumped ahead of Jones for that small defender role? If so are we trying Jones elsewhere like the midfield or hoping he gets better playing back pocket in the sanfl?

Seems odd doesn't it, unless someone else gets the sub vest and he plays

There's putrid, and there's grumpy posters.

While Milera didn't get much of the ball, he had 5 score involvements (from his 10 touches) and had the ability to connect into the forward line by making space in the midfield and executing skilful passes to the forward line.

He doesn't get out right all the time and looked rusty at times on the weekend, but he can play a very important role and needs to get more games in.

When or if complaining about his perceived shortcomings as a forward, I’d say it does matter whether he was drafted as a forward, or if he had ever played forward in his life
trying to turn someone into something they’re not (or at least hadn’t been) is a more extreme version of the common refrain about playing someone out of position
I'd say that before the Pyke phone call, Murphy wanted to play AFL and jumped at the chance to play AFL, even if it meant that Pyke wanted to make a forward outta him.
It didn't work then. It's not working now.
What's clear is that Murphy is not a forward, but as you said:
Murphy is an inside stoppage midfielder, he’s quite a neat one, with clean hands and efficient movement.
What matters now is how Nicks et al use him --- and McHenry, Jones, Berry and others.
(Speaking of Berry, he was very effective as a mid before Crouch was re-introduced. Then they played him on a HFF with some time in the middle and he played poorly. Ridiculous.
Some say that Nicks is trying to increase a player's usefulness by playing them out of their preferred (or best) position.
I'd say that works only with quality players like Dawson who's a smart and highly-skilled player.
Nicks is fixated on seniority/ games played. That means for him that an 80-game player is > a 20-game player, regardless of actual performance, which is why Sloane, Crouch and Laird have become immovable barnacles in the midfield, while Junior players who could not do a worse job are played out of position.
Usually when talking about why a player isn’t succeeding, a reference to their history, background at junior level and at time of drafting is often relevant.
McHenry & Jones were both midfielders, neither plays there now. The question of usage and background has something to say in terms of drafting or development issues.
I see your point about relevance.
It was a drafting issue; that's on Pyke. Now it's a playing issue, which is on Nicks who appears to think that midfielders drafted by the Crows are not really midfielders but stop-gap plug-holes that he can play wherever he wants, to accommodate senior players (who are the 'real', effective, match-winning midfielders).
Nicks: "He can play midfield? Great, then he can play HB, or HF".
Problem is, Jones is not a natural HB and Murphy/McHenry are not natural, effective forwards. But, I digress ...
Does it matter? Does anything?
No. We're talking about footy players and games of footy, not Health-Life-Death etc. :smilev1:

I am delighted that Patty Parnell will debut on Saturday. For those who haven’t seen him play live, whilst he only looks 14 in his photo, in the flesh he actually looks more like 12 years old.

I am not sure if he is ready but he deserves a shot. Hopefully the usual suspects won’t write him off after a couple of games.
This is the funniest thing

‘ we need to play youth ‘

Then ‘drop him , he’s no good ‘

Or ‘ play the younger ones ! ‘ when someone is 21 and not 18

Jones is supposed to be playing an offensive role and creating run , dare off half back while brown plays defensive lock down

The way it’s heading Jones might end up the long term shut down role as he’s not providing much offence and Parnell the offensive role

Might as well all start this weekend and carry thru if both boys go ok , brown has been a weak link all season and Jones not exactly flourishing in providing offence but ok defensively
