Cassisi's lazy kick on the ground, followed by Logan's fumbly dropped mark, which led to a Hawthorn goal, was one of worst pieces of play for the day.

I can handle him being unsuited to the modern game and his skills fading.

But when your bloody captain is too lazy to bend his back and pick up the ball when in the open enough that he could have got a disposal away cleanly, drop and ****ing delist. Disgusting.

For those who played today, thankyou and goodbye to the following:
Mcarthy
Rodan

Players to keep:
Stewart
Broadbent
Brad
Shultz

Pearce in the ' I just Dunno' list? Otherwise no issue

I thought I saw Cassisi do a few good things.
The one good thing I remember him doing was spoiling one of the Hawthorn talls even though he was outsized and out muscled. Cassisi for KPD!

Pearce's work-rate was very noticeable. Thought he had a good game. Part of the issue he has with disposal efficiency coming out of defence is the lack of movement and leads from players up-field.

Imagine busting your gut to take/win possession only to look up and see Westhoff waving goofily at you from the boundary line.

Deflating at best.

I'd like to know what hocking was saying to the group at the end of the match while they were still on the ground. I seriously hope someone in our club has told these boys the next three weeks they are playing for their futures, cannot believe the performances they are putting in with the $$$$ they are getting and this is across the whole board.

Lobbe's worth persisting with, I'm not saying he should be in front of Redden and Renouf, but that theres no way he should be delisted. Have a look at other clubs' ruckman/2IC ruckman - Maric, Jamar, Pyke, Griffin, Hale, Hudson, Giles and Minson just to name a few, now honestly tell me that they didn't look like duds for their first 5 or so years on an AFL list? Even ****ing Jake Spencer is starting to look somewhat of an AFL footballer! That's just the way it goes with ruckmen - you have to be patient with them because there is usually a massive gap in body strength between the best (Jolly, Mumford, Cox, Sandilands) and the wannabes which gets exposed probably more than any other position. You'll occasionally get high jumping freaks like Naitanui who can defeat them using his own unique weapons, but not many can do this.

Lobbe shows signs. He took a couple of nice contested grabs yesterday, is reasonable at the centre bounces and always follows up his effort at the bounce diving in for the ball. He can get exposed by good ruckmen who outmuscle him and the experienced guys who know where to position themselves during general play have a distinct advantage. Like everyone, I'd like to see him do more - but at least stop the rubbish talk about delisting because it would be a ****ing stupid move to put 4 or so years of development into someone who was injury prone early in his career only to delsit him when he isn't a superstar in his second year of actually playing in the AFL.

good game this for an honest look in the mirror.
I'd disagree. First game with a new coach they generally are going to bust their guts (as much as their 'fitness' lets them). It's the remaining games where any hint can be looked for, if a new coach / game plan, can salvage fringe careers. Though really I think it's more a case of we have so many players needing turning over, that it's which duds do we keep on next year as slightly less 'duddy', as we can't turn over 15 players at once, even though many of us would like to.

Blee looks like he will take 3 years to be as big as Bobby. Looks more like a flanker and not key position.
But we already knew that. He didn't get shorter/smaller since he was drafted.

old guy at work who used to play sanfl, is a surf lifesaver, general fitness fanatic and coaches teens - decided to watch our game on the weekend, just to 'have a look'. He said it was obvious to him we were not fit enough in the last Q, and players in their minds wanted to do things but their bodies wouldn't let them. I know we know this, or think we know this, but just to have it somewhat verified by an 'independent source' with some level of expertise was interesting. Also said he can't understand how it would happen - that an AFL list can't be fit enough to play out a full game :(

It become really noticble when the interchange became 3+1. Sure we were undersized before, but now we're undersized and can't run out games. It's like we never figured out how to manage the change to 3 on the bench and certainly our fitness department has made little progress in that area.

I guess the promising thing about this is he suggests that it is a fitness issue and not just that the players can't be bothered. If we can fix the fitness problem and they do want to work harder then we could see significant improvement.

Does anyone have the stats on our rotation numbers? I'd be interested to see how many rotations a game we use comparable to the AFL average? Altho I noticed after our first goal Bradbert came off, he'd been on for 50 seconds?

An interesting stat would be how much time guys spend on the ground between rotations and how long on the bench - I guess thats held by the clubs tho.

The fitness of the entire side is a joke, the photo in the off season of Broadbent with a ciggy hanging out his mouth says a fair bit about the mindset of these guys. They are amateurs impersonating elite athletes and courtesy of the salary cap they are ridiculously overpaid amateurs at that. If I was an ordinary AFL footballer I would love to be on the Alberton gravy train. They should all refund 25% of their yearly salary to put towards our debt.

I cannot believe that we are stuck with Cassisi for another 2 years. I take my hat off to the bloke for getting 200 AFL games out of a pretty uninspiring skill set, but surely his time is up.

If your captain cannot be bothered bending over to pick up a loose ball, you are in big trouble.

He should win a Magarey - cos he sure as hell shouldnt be playing AFL next year.

That Cassisi kick off the ground was one of the laziest acts I've ever seen on a professional football field. And we've all witnessed some mighty lazy shit from this mob. And from the captain no less. Finding it very difficult to hold onto any respect I ever had for Dom.

Dom should really be Brayden Lyle circa 01 next year. Should only play if there are injuries. He has literally fallen that far.

I can believe it. I couldn't believe Kornes' contract, couldn't believe Westhoff's, couldn't believe Salter's, but now I believe. Player managers love Rohde - getting Cassisi to sign-on prior to the season starting was an absolute masterstroke by Connors.

Hopefully the party is over now.

I think you guys are being a bit harsh on Dom. He actually did a few god things which is more than a lot of players yesterday.
One thing that pisses me right off is how the opposition manages to kick goals from positions which Port players had gazillion of chances to kill the contest. To cop a goal from virtually nothing, I've only seen that happen to us. And not once, but about 10-15 times. I suppose that's the difference between Port and a team like the Swans. They might not always get the ball, but they bust their gut to stop the opposition from scoring.
