Currently watching series 1 as Foxtel have been showing it.

Absolutely loving it. One of the best shows to be made in this country.

Jim what channel and what day(s) and time(s)?

I think it is on Universal, but I just happened to see they were showing it from the start and set up up a series link to tape it so I can watch them at my leisure.

The last couple of weeks have been bloody good. Not outrageous to say I reckon it's the best Aussie comedy-drama since SeaChange (which probably isn't as fondly remembered these days compared to ten years ago).

I was going to write the same thing. SeaChange was a fantastic little show full of wonderfully quirky characters, and Rake is very much in the same vein.

Some of the creative licence taken with the law and legal process bugged me last night (and particularly bugged my girlfriend, who I complained to...) but aside from that it was highly entertaining television. Interesting to see where they go with it next year, and so great to see such a quality Aussie show.

Yep great show to close the season.

Donners the first season was in 2010 and they took off 2011. I suspect the same thing will happen if a season 3 is made.

The great thing about Rake is the writting. If they start making too many too soon it will lose its magic.

Oh, I didn't realise there was such a gap between seasons. Still, if it results in good-quality storylines, as you suggest, then it's worth the wait.

I think they left the specifics of his defence just vague enough that there's probably a coherent explanation there... somewhere...

Has it been confirmed that there will be a third season (be it in 2013 or 2014)?

EDIT: I can answer my own question there. Just watched the behind the scenes footage on the ABC website, and Richard Roxburgh said season three is being written, but the writers are incredibly slow. I'm guessing 2014 would be a good point to aim for.

Good news, production of season 3 started last month, will air next year.

In the meantime we have the US adaptation to look forward to..

.. ok maybe we won't be looking forward to it. Trailer looks alright, not great, will give it a chance and watch the first few episodes. Looks pretty close to an exact copy of the Australian version, just 'Americanised'. The case in the trailer is identical to the case in the pilot of the Aus version.

was that a new ep last night?

hadn't seen it before, though I don't really follow the eps, just watch it when it's on. **** me that rant about 'right wing chicks' was funny.

I think Rake had 2 seasons, its great. Follow it ep by ep , you'll love it. Up there with Tangle , Time of our life, the good aussie shows. If your catching it on Fox I think it finished its first two seasons on the ABC Fox has purchased it I guess . Really worth a proper look.

The Americans won't be able to do it as well for Australian viewers. I am rapt to hear that series three is being made.
No offence to the American producers , but Rake Australian , has Australia written all over it and the Americans will change it to suit their sensibilities good or bad. Like the Americans trying to do Kath and Kim. Only people from The UK , really get our humour , maybe it originated there, Poms are the funniest buggars on the planet. I wait with baited breath for RAKE THREE.

Rake series 3 returns next Sunday on ABC 1 at 8-30pm.

Starts with him still in jail serving his 14 years for conspiracy to murder.
