Can't get in to school with out going thru airport security, get into school and are surrounded by armed guards.

Land of the free.

Home of the brave.

Honestly in the last few weeks there have been a few reminders about how much better we have it.

Their highest court infiltrated by non-secular influences where by they used religion rather than scientific reason to likely strike down a law that critical to both privacy and womens rights.

They have yet another mass shooting of pre teens no less.

We hold an election where there is a transition of power which happens rapidly and done in a way where one concedes and congratulates and the other claims victory and thanks.

Yeh we do. We had it better but ... at least we had that. There is alot wrong here tho. Maybe with a change of government some things will change. Like the prosecution of whistle blowers for acting in the public interest no longer being standard procdeure. That would make me happy.

Security guards aren’t doing shit.

Why would they?

For f** all money, $15.20 an hour on average.

And a health care system that in no way is going to care well for them if things go poorly.

Hopefully.

I am hopeful that the way the vote occurred moves us towards more future progress. The understanding that there are real issues that face our country and that we have the power to change for the better.

I can’t imagine waiting outside a primary school while that’s going on. They should turn in their badges immediately.
I meant the security guards.

The cops, that’s another story.

Great observation.

Listened to an interview on the radio today of a Ukranian farmer. Spoke of his father being killed defending the country from the attacking russians, rest of his family have fled to Austria. the russian troops stole their tractors and sabortaged the irrigation system, they are digging wells so they can farm about 3% of their annual output just to feed themselves.

Over Here even with the fuel and fertilizer cost increases and the state of our footy club atm just really makes me feel so fortunate.

holy duck. 91k to have A SURGERY View attachment 1408409
A mate of mine went for holiday to LV and had to get his spleen removed whilst over there. I can't remember the actual figure, but it was just under 200k after 4 days in recovery. Insured obviously.

Compare that to Czech Republic. My wife suffered a DVT when we were on holiday. She spent 10 days in hospital(non surgery) and it cost a bit under 3k.

Holy duck 200k
I speak to a lot of Americans who've had knee recos. Insured Americans frequently pay more than I did going completely out of pocket in our private system. Uninsured Americans are looking at $70k+. The insured ones insist to me that their healthcare system rocks because they 'only' paid $9k. The country is ****ed.

Would you know what to do in that situation?

Most cops aren't trained to deal with gunfights in schools where a stray bullet could go thru a wall and kill a child.

Even the highly trained cops **** it up. One of the hostages who died in the Lindt cafe siege was killed by police bullets. A bunch more were wounded, some seriously. Mounis shot one person.

I don’t know what I’d do, but I do know that if I was too scared to go into the school to try and save some kids then I shouldn’t be a cop.

Just read that the US has 46 per cent of the world’s civilian owned guns while having just over 4 per cent of the world’s population. FMD.
Whilst the statistic alone reads alarming I think its more a case of attitude towards firearms, Switzerland for example per capita has a pretty high rate of firearms (3rd only to yeman and the US but if you changed the question to owndership overall the gap closes substantually as a lot of people have access to non-civilion firearms) but because they all do national service and have laws reinforcing its a privilege to use a firearm they tend to have less issues. Compare this the the US attitude that its their "right" rather than privilege to bear arms and its a huge difference in attitude.

I think here in Au we generally consider it a privilege as well of course this doesn't take into account the underworlds gun numbers.

Some interesting Swiss firearm points,

-People who've been convicted of a crime or have an alcohol or drug addiction aren't allowed to buy guns in Switzerland.

-The law also states that anyone who "expresses a violent or dangerous attitude" won't be permitted to own a gun.

-Gun owners who want to carry their weapon for "defensive purposes" also have to prove they can properly load, unload, and shoot their weapon and must pass a test to get a license.

-Swiss authorities decide on a local level whether to give people gun permits. They also keep a log of everyone who owns a gun in their region, known as a canton

Possibly a little bit simplistic though val, lets use the firefighter analogy, plenty of firefighters are brave enough to enter a burning building but that doesn't always mean its the intelligent choice?

Confined space incidents again often require a well thought our response as well rather than just marching in.

I would question the intelligence of an officer to enter a building under siege with unknown assailants toting military grade weaponry unsupported with a service revolver.

What if that burning building was full of children?

I know it’s simplistic but it’s true.

So in a country where they have a problem with assault rifles the police only have revolvers?
