Re: Lenny Hayes

Don't know how that works, actually. He only played two games, so I think they base his price off his original one last year. James Strauss, for example - played two games in 2010, averaged 23. His price was $110,200 last year and it was the same this year.

Re: Lenny Hayes

Just saying, if anything popes into your head, we are here to help, might want to start a new thread for it though so we don't go off topic on this thread.

Oh and Strauss is at minimum price.

Yeah, but my point was that his price didn't change compared to last year - if they based it off his average he would've gone down to about $90-100k, by my guess.

I don't know exactly how it works, but he wouldn't be $250k next year.

Hence the word minimum. A player who has been on an AFL list for multiple years has a minimum price irrespective of average.

Re: Lenny Hayes

On second thought Hayes wouldn't get a 50% discount, because he managed two games in 2011 (50% appears to be reserved to players who have missed an entire season).

So with a 20% or 30% discount he will be at the $336K or $294K mark respectively.

Does anyone know what factor distinguishes between those two discounts? I note Brodie Martin got 30% off for his only playing two games in 2010 whereas Cheney, Speight and Petrie only got a 20% discount.

I think it is worked out by whatever popes into their heads at the time. Seriously.

Re: Lenny Hayes

2011 was a definite shift away from 100% 'strict' policy on discounts.
There was still a lot of transparent pricing but some were very subjective.

I really don't think that would be true, they would need to stick by the rules for "discounting" the players

Why? They run the game, they can do what they want, and they did. I think there was a certain amount of thinking along the lines of "Let's not make the game too easy by overdiscounting potentially popular players." And fair enough too.

Re: Lenny Hayes

Yeah it's been looked at for years and whilst there have always been some trends there are always discounts that are very random. They also tend to change the way they give out discounts each year.

But 20 to 30% sounds about right for Hayes.

Will be interesting to see Porplyzia's price next year if he doesn't take part again in 2011. One score under 10 would leave him near rookie priced and would see most jump on in 2012.

That is an interesting one. That score leaves him lower than rookie price using the normal formula I think.

But far out, with his shoulders no matter how cheap he is it's a massive risk. Especially if we've only got two on the bench.

Agreed massive risk has only had 2 good seasons (08-09) & just attracts injuries. At $180,000+ you probably wouldn't touch. But anything under that he becomes tempting as a cash cow, he plays a SC friendly game as well.

Pretty sure in 09 Danger & Otten were both priced at about $130,000 after ave 20-30 over 2 games each in 08.
