I hope we are ready for it. We are about to become one of the most heavily scrutinised clubs in the league. If we are unable to perform in the next couple of years the media will have Ross and more significantly the Steves and Bondy in the gun. I just hope this doesnt have an adverse effect on the players because the pressure will be on them as well.

While it all seems roses now if this great coup doesnt work the shit will hit the fan big time and we might as well change our name to Richmond.

No One's Laughing At Freo Now

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/no-one-laughing-at-freo-now/story-e6frf9jf-1226138745710

IT WAS the day a one-time laughing stock of the AFL competition got dead-set nasty.

This is the same Fremantle that was once inept enough to give up both a draft pick and compensatory selection then used by Essendon to secure Scott Lucas and Matthew Lloyd.

The same Fremantle that traded Andrew McLeod to Adelaide so they could pick up a promising forward named Chris Groom.

The purple, green, red and white team that gave up selection two to Richmond (Brad Ottens) for Chris Bond and pick 21 (Clem Michael) in 1997.

And the very same club that had a so-called theme song based on The Song of the Volga Boatmen. You remember "Freo, Heave Ho, Way To Go''.

Well, after 17 years of drifting along, at times aimlessly and at one stage back in the mid 1990s playing a brand of football with water polo elements, Freo has announced that mediocre is no longer good enough.

Re: No One's Laughing At Freo Now

People may not be laughing, but the club has lost a lot of respect and where those who were impartial at games in Melbourne would support Freo there is very little chance of that happening now.

Whether the decision is right or wrong only time will tell, but the way the board went about is as low an act as I've even seen in nearly 40 years of following footy.

Re: Pressure

first time in our clubs history where there the incoming new coach is under extreme pressure to put runs on the board
i like it
i was pissed off at first but bring 0n 2012 i say

Re: No One's Laughing At Freo Now

Our history is very hard to read.

Is Ross Lyon a coup or are we again grossly overpaying someone to come over here and flounder around for a few yrs while the real star goes back to coach and win premierships?

Time will tell I spose.

Sacked Fremantle coach Mark Harvey 'shot in back': Kevin Sheedy

COACHING legend Kevin Sheedy says Fremantle's sacking of Mark Harvey was like being shot in the back by a countryman during a war.

Harvey has been replaced by Ross Lyon, who last night walked out on the Saints to accept a four-year deal with the Dockers.

Harvey was late yesterday sensationally sacked by the Dockers with a year to go on his contract after earlier in the day giving a speech about the future of the club at a breakfast attended by Fremantle chairman Steve Harris.

Who needs their support anyway, I could care less about other clubs that come to town, if they get worried about outsiders then they are in the wrong business.

Coaches get the boot all the time, if you look for example at the Premier League the Managers there get the boot straight after matches and a replacement in. Some people are too fragile here, how did Malthouse end up at Collingwood?

If it's the lowest act you've seen in footy then you haven't seen racism.

You been involved with u 10's ?

Malthouse to Collingwood
Sheedy from Essendon
Knights from Essendon
Blight from St Kilda
Bailey from Dees

The list is endless

The way the board went about it was clinical and precise, they got the best available, they got their man.

12 mths down the track, Harves packs up to head back to Melbourne and we are left sifting through untried coaching talent yet again.

No thanks.:thumbsu:

Re: No One's Laughing At Freo Now

Good on Freo, about time the club realised it was in the AFL and played hard ball.

Had?

By the way, there are plenty of people still laughing at Freo. That won't stop until they win a premiership.

This.

New found respect for Fremantle. I'm a Perth boy and i'm excited about what lies ahead for the Dockers.

AFL is a business. There may be some hard calls made that will get positively or negatively scrutinised by all those in the public. The end of the day a club needs to do what it can to give itself the best possible chance of achieving ultimate glory, that being a permiership.

Listening to the media conference, and believing Ross Lyon had the clause which he has exercised, good on the Fremantle Football Club for showing guts and going out there on the front foot and getting what they want. Sadly there's always a loser, and I'm sure all are thankful and proud at what Harvey did for your club, but this is a positive step forward.

Look forward to the emergence of the Dockers in 2012 and onwards :thumbsu:

It's been great reading and viewing over the past 24 hours! Hopefully Freo aren't being laughed at any longer.

Good luck for 2012 :thumbsu:

Re: No One's Laughing At Freo Now

Sounds like they're finally learning from West Coast - win at all costs and dont care who you crap on along the way.

Just need a few bikies along for the ride and the cup is yours.

Re: No One's Laughing At Freo Now

"they"

**** off Reg.

Yes, they. Sometimes I slip up, but in the main I never talk about the football team as if I am one of them. If you paid attention you would realise this.

You **** off.

Re: No One's Laughing At Freo Now

"They" should go and follow the real team "They" support, instead of being moles on OUR board.

If that's aimed at me, you can **** off as well.

I support Fremantle more than most of you posers dare to dream.
