It started, it died, it started again, it died again...but now it's back!

Greetings all. GWS Goose's (and AnUltimateRessie's) 'much-loved' Rate the Opposition MVP competition is back for S39. Its success over the years has ebbed and flowed; however, it's a helpful resource when it gets to All-SFA/Beez voting time at the end of the season, and it's a nice tool to recognise some of the best match thread posters each week.

Voting Process

All players are encouraged to vote and rate the opposition's contribution to the thread in the classic 3-2-1 format. At the end of the round, the votes will be tallied up and consolidated into a consensus vote (i.e. if five players from a team vote, those votes will be tallied, with the poster with the most combined votes getting three, the second most two, and the third most one.

When voting, please also rate the match thread between 1-5.

Please note: .5 or 'half' votes will be accepted as long as the total player votes add up to six. Votes that do not add up to six, or votes that include smaller denominations than .5 will be deemed invalid, with the offending poster tarred and feathered.

The voting template will remain unchanged from previous seasons:
Round x vs TEAM

3. PLAYER
2. PLAYER
1. PLAYER

Thread: 1-5 /5

Previous Winners

S38: N/A
S37: Mobbs
S36: Gralin
S35: Tonga Bob (self-appointed)
S34: DenieD
S33: N/A
S32: Mobbs

Final Notes

Weekly voting updates will be provided by yours truly (as well as inevitable reminder tags, be warned). At the end of the season, the winning poster will be awarded the coveted 'Golden Goose' Trophy (not redeemable for cash).

The team with the highest average match thread score will be able to comfort themselves with the knowledge that they are better than everyone else.

Happy voting (please) and good luck for Season 39.

I self-appoint myself as the s38 winner as well.

You're welcome.

I humbly think this is a great concept, and am glad it is back.

It is a bit of work chasing votes, but I think that thread participation quality should be much more highly regarded in Beez voting and All SFA teams, as it is difficult to measure and recall at the end of the year is mostly forgotten.

This little thread gives a tangible insight into how much value posters are adding.

I think the captains should endeavour to assist Scythe94 to get players voting in this.

Its a bit of work, but I think worth it for the good of the league.

If the AnUltimateRessie had have directed his time to this instead of post numbers analysis, the SFA would be a better place ;) (I joke, im thankful that he took over and ran it for a few years)

Thanks for taking it on

That would be presumptuous of me.
At what point does it become sumptuous of you?

That's the correct time to do it, you don't want to wait too long and have it become postsumptuous

that made me laugh more than it should have.

posting analysis took way less time than this to manage, heck the reserves comp nearly was!. I found that weekly updates weren't manageable especially when theres teams that straight up refuse to vote or constantly 6 weeks behind with their own award that I use to feed the competition (cough, roys, cough)

As usual, you are absolutely correct.

Scythe94 I am self-appointing my sumptuous arse as the s39 winner. I'll also hermit crab myself into the s33 one, and the s34 one too as DenieD doesn't want it anymore.

What’s your plan for the teams who don’t submit any votes? This competitions biggest problem is some teams don’t vote or won’t vote against certain other clubs.

Good on you, Scythe94. Looking forward to the results. Will try to remember to contribute my own if I'm around this season!

Unfortunately it's an extremely flawed metric for All-Sweet FA selection, and therefore should be considered very carefully; it essentially disadvantages deeper squads (as teammates are 'competing' against one another for votes).

Sounds like we need less squad depth and a better spread across the league ;)

But nah, you're correct. It's flawed, but it just needs to be taken for what it is, which is better than nothing (but by no means a cut-and-dried indicator of individual posting quality across the SFA).

That being said, I'd be open to making it a a 5-4-3-2-1 poll if it assisted in that regard.

  • Plan A is obviously encouraging people to get involved every week and chasing up votes when required. I can be annoyingly persistent 🤗
  • Plan B is putting some of the responsibility on the club captains (hopefully it won't be too much of an ask for them to vote, or encourage voting amongst their team). Tallies of each team's respective voting records will be kept and posted alongside the weekly voting results, so it'll be easy to see who's not pulling their weight.
  • Plan C (last resort) is auto votes based off posting volume (i.e. top three posters for that week get votes). Obviously, I hope to never use this as it'd just encourage post spamming, but it's a break glass in case of emergency option.

Not this thing again 🙄
Please note: .5 or 'half' votes will be accepted as long as the total player votes add up to six. Votes that do not add up to six, or votes that include smaller denominations than .5 will be deemed invalid, with the offending poster forced to spend a week with damicky.
