The town of Bunyips!

This will be a different style of the Mafia/Werewolves games played in the forums for some time now. This is not a conclusion that the existing style is bad, just trying an alternate style.

The main gist of this game will be story driven, myself as mod will be doing a lot of work behind the scenes. (So, apologies for any mistakes and delays caused by this, will endeavor to work our way through this together and learn from it)

Introduction to the town​

The setting for this game/ scenario is a quaint rural town in regional Australia set in the early 1800’s. Established by Famers as a local Co-Op town with a local Hotel for food and drinks. Slowly the town grew as minerals were found in the area and new offices were built to accommodate these new businesses.

The local mines were extensions of existing caves that have long been feared as home of the Legendary Bunyips. Legends of deaths occurring to visitors to the caves was handed through the Generations.

As the mining company took ownership of the caves, they embraced this folklore and called the business The Bunyip Company.

Amongst the townsfolk were also the members of a group called the Billabong Club, these members followed a lot of strange mysterious rituals and activities.

Some of the towns residential area has been set aside for the company’s new employees and the townsfolk were not happy to see so many newcomers to this town. They distrusted anyone they didn’t know.

Introduction to the People​

Mayor​

The town did an invisible Election last year where the Nominees for mayor were given only numbers not names and couldn’t reveal their identity. This meant everyone voted on polices not on personalities. The mayor does not attend an office and works secretly from home making decisions for the town.

Bunyip Owner​

As the mysterious owner of the company his main aim is to gain control of the town and dig more mines everywhere he wants. He is keen to expel all local inhabitants. No one in town knows what this mysterious owner looks like as the owner has kept his life confidential. Secretly the Owner is currently living in the town. The Owner is part of a global cult called the Night Watchers and he has been empowered with a SEER ability to see people’s inner selves.

Bunyip employees​

Hired folk who do as the Owner requests.

Billabong Club​

A group of townsfolk who had formed a CULT of worshipping the Olden Spirits from across the Universe and practicing of deep dark magic. They can use their power to SEER using a special Ceremony involving clapping and dancing to FAST music.

Towns Folk​

The towns folk mostly kept to their own and lived peacefully out on their allotments. But some had taken to protesting the purchase of more and more commercial spaces and new folk moving into town. But it wasn’t just outsiders joining Bunyip Company, some of the Town Folk locals were now fully employed and secretly were happy to see their new employer take over the town.

The Scenario​

The Bunyip owner has an evil plan to empty the town of opposition. Last night this plan begun when the Billabong Leader’s Son was found dead at the bottom of one of the Bunyip mines. It was assumed just an accident. But the townsfolk were on edge after this strange occurrence. They called a townhall meeting and demanded the guilty be found and lynched. Eventually they were talked into a calmer mood, and they went home for the evening. Perhaps it was just an accident. One death. Or was this the start of something? The townsfolk were on edge and wanted to Start Lynching.

Game Mechanics​

The roles will be decided randomly, and the number of roles will be decided by the number of interested people.

The object of the game is for the Bunyip Prospect Company to eliminate the local Billabong Club who will never accept the company in town and to reduce the Local Folks Total population to less than the Company Employees total.

The object of the Billabong Club is to empty the town of all Company Employees and reduce the towns folk so that the Club are the majority.

The object of the Towns folks is to survive the Bunyip attacks and the Mystic Ceremonies of the Billabong Club and eventually get the Guilty to Justice. Lynching!

CLUES/ RED HERRINGS​

During each night the Bunyips will accidently leave a clue, or deliberately leave a RED HERRING. The Town Hall discussions will look for these CLUES/ RED HERRINGS and vote to lynch whomever they think is exposed by the voting.

Nighttime process​

The Bunyips will discuss in a PM their desired target to remove from the town. They will also discuss possibly leaving a RED HERRING to point at an innocent person and distract from their guilt. Bunyip owner can then use his Psychic ability to reveal the identity of a person.

The Billabong club will discuss in PM whom they suspect of being a Bunyip employee and then kill their choose. The Mysterious One can reveal the identity of a person each night by performing Secret Mysterious Ritual

Sheriff will arrest someone. Anyone arrested cannot perform Nightly activities but also can’t be lynched next day due to alibi of being in jail

The rest of the townsfolk will just sleep.

Daytime process​

The Local Reporter (the GAME MOD) will release news of any nighttime activities and explain to the Townsfolk any CLUES found. (This includes Red Herrings but will not inform of the difference).

The townsfolk will then vote for whom they wish to declare guilty. This person will be lynched in the town square.

The townsfolk only get one VOTE per day. They cannot change that vote. So, they must discuss each activity well. If there is as tie in the voting the MAYOR gets to choose either; a multi lynching where all tied vote receivers die, or choose one of the nominees as the guilty. (This decision by Mayor will be done via PM to the MOD)

If the Mayor is killed the MOD will “randomly” pick another person to replace them.

At end of the lynching ceremony all people will nominate where they will spend the night.

  • MINE SHAFT – Max 1 person here, first nomination gets it
  • HOTEL- Max of 5 people here, first 5 nominations get it
  • Person’s home – Can name their own home or some one else home. Each home limited to 2 people. One of which must the homeowner.
  • Default is the persons own home if they don’t nominate.

ROLES EXPLAINED​

BUNYIP TEAM

Bunyip Owner
– Choose which player to kill each night by PMing the MOD with the name of the person. Also, will inform which HIRED GUN performed the kill. Once all Hired Guns are dead then the nightly killer will be named as the lowest ranking Team Member. Can use the power of divination to SEER one person. If anyone SEERS the Owner they will appear as a Townsfolk.

Bunyip Owners Psychotic Partner - Is totally immune from Night Kills due to being in a TRANCE all night, and if targeted will KILL the person targeting them.

Bunyip Lawyer – Due to knowledge of the law can claim immunity from the Lynch squad on the next day. And if the LAWYER receives the most votes in a LYNCH they will do a RAZZLE DAZZLE on the crowd and the person who voted last (doesn't matter who they voted for) will be found Guilty instead and LYNCHED

Bunyip Hired Gun – Does the killing as directed by the OWNER, sadly they are not very clever and leave Clues.

Win condition – Kill all members of the Billabong Club and outnumber the number of Good Townsfolk

BILLABONG CLUB TEAM

Chief –
Head of the Club and can use deep mysterious powers to find identity of people. Whenever he uses this Ceremony if he is SEEN by others he will appear as a TOWNSFOLK. If he forgets to do the Mysterious Ceremony, he will be fully exposed if SEERED.

Club Security – This person has power to change the VOTE of anyone he chooses each day. After a person votes the Club Security will PM the MOD naming the person whose vote is to be changed and who the vote will be for instead

Mysterious One – This spiritually empowered person will use there evil power on whomever the Club decides on to kill that person nightly. Due to their mystical powers is immune to night kill.

Assistants – Help in all rituals and if the Mysterious One is killed the CLUB will nominate via PM which assistant takes on the Mysterious One’s powers. Once the Mysterious One and all Assistants are dead, no further mysterious killing takes place.

Win condition – Kill all members of the Bunyip Company and outnumber the number of Good Townsfolk

Good Townsfolk

Mayor
– If any ties in lynch vote gets to determine if a MULTI LYNCH or Choose the Guilty.

Town Sheriff – Each night arrests a person of their choice via PM to MOD. Anyone arrested will fail at their nighttime activity and is automatically exempt from Lynching. Anyone forgetting this and voting for the Jailed person will receive a Lynch Nomination for themselves instead. Arrested person is released for the following night activity.

Town Patrol – Each night will nominate one of the following places to patrol.

  • Mines
  • Hotel
  • Persons Home – Will name the persons home they are protecting.
No night activities will occur in that location as they are protected.

Town Journalist – Has the ability to investigate from old Newspapers the identify of any one they choose (Note some folk will appear as TOWNS FOLK due to their Special Role)

OTHERS – All other players

Win condition –Survive the killings and LYNCH the Guilty! When all bad folks are dead then the Town wins


GAME RULES
1. Only one Vote for lynching per day per person.
2. Lynch vote is to BOLD the Nominee and TAG MOD myself
3. Feel free to chat all day and all night. Discussions are most useful
4. No Editing or Deleting of POSTS allowed = Modkill for all incidents
5. No posting images from any PM to main thread. What happens in PMs stays in PMs.
6. Will add additional rules as needed by determination of the MOD (ME)
