Razor Ray has to go...........

Malcolm and TIm Lane seem to think you should be given ample opportunity to dispose the ball, and then once tackled, have the umpire call play on.

Tim Lane is so out of touch with the game.

That holding the ball against McGlynn just before HT - good decision; he had possession, saw the player coming and tried to do a ****ing Selwood by ducking and trying to get the high free...good to see the umpire ping him HTB...they seem to be going harder at it in the last week or so - why not since the start of the year?

Umpires have taken over the game.
Having said that, somebody get Malcolm Blight off the commentary. Only so much whining I can handle.

the dude's passionate about the game and hate's seeing what is becoming of it . A lot of people agree with you though about him .

I know he is, but it just gets too much. Brian Taylor and Dwayne Russell are the same. They spend more time commenting on the umpiring decisions (which they get wrong most of the time) then calling the game.

Umpiring has been spot on. Tonight has been very good. Those who understand the rules will agree.
The other 2 were fine, but 2 of Rays decisions within a minute were both plane wrong IMO, first one against Kennelly cost Sydney a goal was not there at all, the 2nd against Gilbert he barely had controlled possession before getting tackled apparently didn't make an effort to get rid of it, IMO he didnt even have it. Terrible umpire, can't believe he has gotten a finals game.

Not going to argue about tonight, as we were clearly beaten by the better team on the night, but it'd be a shame if he plays any further part in the finals. Regularly calls for free kicks that aren't their and upsets the flop of the game.

The Kennelly situation he scooped it which was why it was a hold and right call. Gilbert's one if he had controlled possession then he has control and the call is correct.

The Gilbert one was a good decision, imo. Gilbert had a chance to get the ball out but he just stood there with his arms out because he wanted a stoppage. Didn't make an attempt, so fair enough. Same thing happens when players just lay on the ball when it's on the ground.

Kennelly was tackled immediately after gaining control of the ball, he had no prior opportunity it was the wrong decision.

I must of missed something here didnt the swans player have his hands on the ball how can Gilbert be in possession when his hands are in the air. Now l have played, coached and watched alot of football in my lifetime and have never seen this paid as holding the ball until Razor decides he wants to be the star of the show and pay another blatently wrong decision.

In the Gilbert one I would have thought if anyone was in possession it was the Sydney player who was holding the ball against him.

In the Kennelly tackle did the commentators remark that he paid the free kick and the 50m penalty to the wrong player?

Time for him to go.

continuing on with that Gilbert one ...on the replay you see Gilbert go to ground not holding the ball and while on the ground another Saints player comes in to get the ball.Gilbert and the Sts player touch and attempt to pick the ball up(which had come loose ) then Gilbert releases the ball and didnt push it out.So Razor had no choice but to ping him .Good decision .Razor was directly in line of what happened as was the TV camera.

Hopefully the rules committee will look at these HTB interpretations during the off season. Why punish the player making the play like Kennelly or Gilbert were.

For Chamberlain to then compound his inititial decision and upsize it to a goal with the 50 is another reason this should be his last game this year. Unless the AFL wants the umpires to be most discussed feature of the next 3 weeks of finals they must send Chamberlain to Mad Monday festivities( or do whatever umpires do to celebrate their end of season game).

I thought the holding the ball against Kennelly was a bit harsh but the resultant 50 was paid correctly in line with how they seem to be consistent with that rule the last few Months (debateable about who should have got the kick though).

Gilbert very unlucky but I think we have all seen those paid against the player so it's nothing new. Opposition players drag it in constantly and more times than enough the umpire doesn't seem to see that.

He just seems to make his decisions more grandios than other umps and doesn't seem to have a feel for the game or the stakes. Finals shouldn't be so technical and whislt they shouldn't be interpreted any different to home and away they usually are. Dont see too many HTB in a Grand Final.

Can't understand how we've seen two finals umpired one way then last night we cop that crap. Four of Sydneys last quarter goals were from frees that weren't paid in the other two finals.

Yeah there were some very soft free kicks paid in that last quarter that shouldn't have been paid in a final. There was the free to McGlynn for Dal Santo barely brushing his head/shoulder which he milked, another free against Geary when his tackle just slid across the Swans player's shoulder and a couple of very harsh holding the ball decisions, all resulted in goals.

Add that to the goal handed to the Swans at the end of the 2nd quarter for a minor technical interchange infringement and it makes a big difference to the end result.

Compare that to the West Coast v Collingwood game where the umpires let the minor infringements go and only paid the obvious free kicks, which is how it should be in a final.

The 2 frees you just pointed out above for high contact were both there and if you want to be fair about it there were a number in the first quarter that weren't paid to us that should have been. The number of times Reid was held off the ball in a contest was incredible. Goodes too. The umpires didnt change the result last night. Sydney outplayed you. The HTB decisions were just utter crap in all directions and that interchange infringement had me wanting to put a fist through my TV. Technically there but it was shite.

Saying the umpiring could have made the result alot different is not paying the swans any respect. You guys were done like dogs dinners last night.

Even you have to admit that you got the rub of the green last night.

While you did deserve the win, we think that the result would have been different if the umpiring wasnt so shocking at crucial stages.

We were hardly done like dogs dinners, Sydney just took their opportunities better than we did. We actually dominated general play for quite a bit of the game last night, particularly the first and third quarters but couldn't put it on the scoreboard.

Whether or not some of the soft umpiring decisions affected the end result is debatable but they still had some effect on the scoreline.
