Re Dempsey having a “flat follow up”. I think that’s the beauty of having O. Henry and Dempsey in the same forward six. Both good aerially and instinctive dangerous 3rd talk forwards. Name your poison.
I agree. They're both kids, they're not going to have consistency yet.

Does make me wonder how Gary Rohan fits in now. Hawkins, Cameron, Dempsey, Henry, Stengle, Miers, Close... it's a nice problem to have.

Um yeah, this is going to be tough but I think we will find out a bit more where we sit in the big picture, notwithstanding it is only round 2.

Looking forward to seeing a few of the younglings back up after last week, and a couple of the older dudes get some touches.
Tend to agree, although with no Bruhn, Bowes or Guthrie, if we're beaten comprehensively in the midfield I don't think we've learnt much.

It doesn't signal that it'll be the story of our year IMO.

Last week suggests that with at least one of those guys, we can compete at a pretty solid level and beat a midfield that made the Pies look pedestrian last night.

With all 3, it might not be a weakness at all.

Who knows really, but I'm just not prepared to read into tonight if things get ugly.

Early in the year, Crows at home after an ugly performance, we're undermanned and on the road.

If we can win this, it'll be huge IMO.

With Guth, Bowes and Bruhn out, I figure we're going in short of three of our top five mids for 2024. So I absolutely agree that Tanner is a huge miss. Which is good for our future but not great for this game.

Will need a big lift from plenty in the on-ball group to stay in touch here. If we can manage that, our set-ups down back and up forward will give us a real chance.

Cats by 9.
Bowes hasn't actually ever played a game as a midfielder yet, so I'm not sure if he counts as an out in the midfield. In saying that, if there was ever a week you'd pick Kevitt or Parfitt it would be this week. So I'm not sure it bodes particularly well for either of them.

With Bruhn out I'd just expect Holmes will spend more time in the middle and less off half back compared to last week. So even though our midfield is an area of weakness, I'm not sure it will be much worse than last week.

Team selection balance, lost a Midfielder added a Back
Stacked up top : Skinny in the guts : Plenty down back
Normally an hourglass shaped profile gets me excited.
This Cats team profile is young, promising, ready to play.
Worry: If the center folds, back end will take a pounding.
Strategy: Can't dominate. Need more protection instead.
Bollocks!!!!
Crows ain't some Classy outfit to be treated with respect.
However, if you don't take protection it could hurt later.
Scotty needs to crack the whip tonight to gain dominance.
Kittens must rise to the occasion. Keep thrusting forward.
No flirting around the wings. No loitering around the rear.
Fast long penetrating balls, deep into the hot spot.
More action at the top end will deliver a happy ending.

Scott will continue exposing the Kittens
Doubt Parfitt, Bews can get it up again
Mannagh, Oisin need to get some action
Neal, Knevitt also need more experience.
Bruhn, Bowes, back soon... Guthrie later
14 AFL listed kids playing VFL tomorrow.
Hopefully see more virgins called up 2024.

Can remember another gun Geelong player playing his 150th in a night game in Adelaide in a match he and his club dominated a few years back.

Hopefully history repeats itself tonight.

Good points for the most part.

I really hope we never have to see your browsing history though.

My last stay here I did the normal stadium tour and it's a beautiful stadium to walk around

Doing the roof tour gives another appreciation for it, and you realise how well done the renovation was - the new stand at the River End, even the top most row of seats at the back of the stand have an uninterrupted view to the other end of the ground

I wouldn't mind coming over here to watch cricket

Beautiful ground re cricket. Have done that eons ago and met little Johnny Howard (gave his security heart failure) in the lift of the hotel across the road. The most notable thing about that trip was the several pedos that tracked my little daughter three times through Rundle mall.

If Stanley can at least break even in the ruck, Cameron, Danger and Duncan are certain efficient contributors. Not to mention Tommy Stewart with an extra bit of passion (if that's even possible) in his 150th game, and who plays this ground with flair.
You know that ROB out tapped Witts last week?

ROB is a tap machine, absolutely one of the top dogs in the comp in that department, whilst Stanley is the opposite.

Stanley will not get close to breaking even… Hopefully he can get busy around the ground though.

Yes I know, you've said that before.
I think it was Ceglar that filled in for Stanley last time, and he got more hit outs than ROB.
So I'll reserve judgement, and faith, despite a probable improvement by ROB.

Given how thin our group is in there at the moment (alongside what Jack showed in Round 24 last year and in the preseason games this year), I'm definitely seeing him as a loss for our midfield. And a meaningful one, at that.

All good for Max to play more in the midfield, for sure. But he's a different player to Tanner, with a different approach to going in and winning the footy. So I certainly believe that Bruhn's absence makes us weaker for winning the hard ball around the ground in this game.

ROB has always dominated Stanley and ROB is now better and Stanley is probably now worse.

I hope I’m super off the mark and Stanley gets the job done.

But I agree, if Stanley can break even that would be handy.

Yeah tap is one thing, just need our mids like Paddy to pick it off and smash the crap out of them. Blicks to surprise him occasionally.
Can only hope.

Re. the first point, i was looking forward to Bowes playing midfield minutes this year too. But can you really lose something you've never had?

Re. the second point, I agree that they're different players with different strengths and individually Bruhn is now a pretty good cog in our midfield. I'm just commenting that our overall midfield quality (if you can measure such a thing) might not be THAT much worse off than last week despite Bruhn missing.

We did have it, though. In both Round 24 last year and the practice matches earlier this year.

Maybe it won't be that much worse. But given Bruhn's emergence as an important player in our midfield set-up, it will definitely be worse. And on the road against a good opponent coming off a chastening loss, that's not what I was hoping to see.

Always a tough gig in Adelaide regardless of their ladder position….. pity about Bruhn as I liked his game last week. Bit early for an 8 point game , but they’re one of the sides we would like to jump over from last year…..
Could be a close one … hoping our forwards get some good looks…. Go cats!

Excluding the overnight trip for the prelim which didn't allow time to see anything, this is my second short stay in Adelaide, while I've also road tripped to Port Lincoln & back via the Clare Valley to Adelaide Hills regions

I find it quite a relaxing place & don't understand the s**t that gets thrown around

Only frustration so far - I did the AO twilight roof climb last night, so by the time that finished & I walked back across the river towards the city, it was like, "ok, where can I get some dinner that's not too far away and it's still open". I had the worse Fried Kway Teow - is was at a place that had a few people in it, thought I'd try it out but the dish was essentially a plate of noodles with some pieces of beef & chunks of raw onion; nothing like FKT

At least the Coopers green was cold

But that's a problem I find in a lot of Aus - dinner services finish really early
I love Adelaide. Compared to the massive carpark that Melbourne has become it is tranquil and easy to navigate. Plus the market is great.

Well we’d be doomed if that was the case.

Probably Parf or Knevitt a late in for Danger.

Yeah that ain’t gonna cut it.
The bloke who told me has just back tracked just a little...
I did delete that post but u caught it whilst it was still up.
I am hoping he is wrong as without Danger we are well and truly ROOTED.
