Well what a fantastic win for the Blues, great to see we got back to basics. Big game this one for us and for the Hawks. I think it's going to be a massive crowd, so who comes in, who will win?. CJ will be out injured will the MC take a chance on Yarran?

My thoughts on this game posted in other threads:

After some very poor/embarrassing performances against the Hawks in recent years, we now have the chance to really propel our season, while crippling theirs somewhat.

That is great incentive for next week - can't wait.

...

We had so much run today it was ridiculous. As such, next weeks changes:

OUT: Johnson, IN: Yarran.

I understand those advocating for him to back up his good performance, but geez, looking at our balance today who else would we bring in for Johnson...

Sentanta can play back, plenty of tagging options, plenty of run down back, plenty of speed...

Adding an excitement machine to the forward lime and that team today would be exactly what we need against the Hawks - for those that disagree, I'd like to know who they think should come in for Johnson, because no one else will be dropped.

EDIT: Forgot about Hadley, he had a good game did he not, and his hardness would be useful...tough call, but 2 games out didnt do Scotland any harm - make him hungry.

Tough one...

Well we all know there will most likely be one out in Johnson, and I get a feeling Hoops may get suspended.

Out: Johnson
In: Browne/Hadley (we need a tough nut in against the Hawks)

If Hoops is out then I think we'll see both Browne and Hadley in.

You are definately getting us at the right end of the season. For us I would expect Gilham/Osborne to come in. Young(inj) and stokes to be left out of the team. I guess what all Hawthorn supporters are thinking going into this game is that hopefully things can start clicking for us and get over the line.

Because at the moment, all our senior players are basically down on their best, especially Franklin/Hodge who look like they are still doing the pre-season. Our midfield is also not gelling at the moment but Sewell back in has helped alot. The plus side is we have found a few quality youngsters in Moss/Whitecross. Should be a good game and a good crowd, saturday afternoon at the G what more could you ask for.

The Hawks have been our bogey side for too long and they have really embarrassed us the past two or three times we have played them in the H & A Season.

This week gives us the opportunity to pay them back. Whilst I'd prefer to beat them with their full side in, you can only beat the opposition on the park.

In saying that, IMO they still have a good side in. Sewell and Lewis will be better for the run and we really need to stop them in the middle so Buddy and Roughy aren't given first use of the ball.

A big test for our boys and I'm expecting a big crowd at the G on Saturday arvo :thumbsu:

You guys have improved a lot and we are really struggling at the moment.

Should be a good game though.

I knoe we will definitely lose Young through injury and i am not sure if we will get anybody back (The club aren't very honest with our injury reports).

We might get Osbourne and Gilham back if we are lucky. Birchall and Guerra are probably 2 weeks away & Ellis , Croad & Ladson are ??????.

I certainly won't be surprised if you beat us.

Leave Yarran for another week to make sure he kicks another few goals again.

I agree. We can't go rewarding players for one good game in the Ants. Especially those who haven't shown consistency. It's just asking for trouble IMO. Let him know he needs to sustain these performances over X number of weeks to be considered.

In: Hadley

Need another hard nut to combat Mitchell,Sewell,Lewis.
Good point! My preference would be either him, or Grigg should his ankle come up.

I'm pretty sure Adam, the forgotten man, Bentick was placed on the LTI with a career-ending knee condition.:(

I could be wrong, of course.;)

Yes and for him we bought up Garlett, For Warnock we elevated Jacobs and Joseph was elevated as the nominated rookie IIANM.

And I dont believe you can just drop a LTI elevated rookie and elevate someone else.

There is another nominated rookie elevated Rd12 or we need another LTI to elevate other players.

Hawthorn have so many matchwinners, and we can't contain them all. The 5 that I have identified are the obvious ones, but if we can quell there impact, it should go along way in giving us a big chance of winning the game.

Hodge, Mitchell, Rioli, Franklin and Roughead are the 5. Hodge must be locked down on off HB, and unlike last year, we MUST find a defensive tag for him. We must find someone to play on him, and make him accountable. That player is Bryce Gibbs. Sure, he'll start out of the centre, but given how much Hawthorn play through him, he's the ideal matchup.

AJ to take on Mitchell. Mitchell will never kill you with foot speed, but we need someone who can just lock down on him, and I reckon AJ could do a pretty good job on him.

Army to Rioli. Has enough speed to play on him, and the tenacity to go with him as well. Like Mitchell, won't be kept out of the game all day, but at least with Army, like AJ, you'll get 110% from him.

Jamo on Roughead is the obvious one. Hopefully the mids can put enough pressure on the ball carriers so the ball won't be delivered lace out.

Bower or Waite on Buddy - haven't made up my mind yet, but either of them should be given first shot. I favour Bower, only because of his job on him last year, and so Waite can be used as an offensive weapon for us.

Another thing that should play into our hands is the weather, given we are expecting rain all week, and Hawthorn hopefully won't kill us with their precise kicking skills.

Should be a good game, and hopefully we can get much closer than what we have on our last few games.

Think we need to replace a like to a like...and hence i would not go with hadley as he can only play on ball...where as Grigg (if fit) can play multiple possies...But if it were my called id go with BANNO...he has been been great at VFL level for the past 4 weeks playing half back and his agression and big body would be ideal against the hawks...Anderson was also be close to selection
