(11 of the first 14 inside-50 entries). Hence I made a comment about you guys being a bit lucky at the end of the day.

That's the whole point - the scoreboard. i.e. last week we played Collingwood and they only had 2 more inside 50s. Got smashed on the scoreboard by 50 points.

Inside 50s don't mean sh*t if you can't kick at the big sticks.

If you were a half decent team you'd have put us away. Still a long way to go.

For the record aswell, Gold Coast for the entire match, never got into a winning position. Never. You got close but then we pulled away when we had to.

Interesting game today. Agreed the umpiring was crap. Apart from the fifteen minute head-start we gave you, the sides were pretty evenly matched. Look forward to the re-match next year at our home ground. Our boys will be a lot stronger and fitter this time next year so it should be even closer :)

The holding the ball rule was a farce

Daniel Harris got the ball and was immediately tackled to the ground by two eagles and was pinged.

Happened about 5 times to players from both sides. Mind boggling

This was all from the ump adjudicating in the centre.

The ump to the city end in the second half swallowed his whistle.

Major consistency issues between the umps today which would have been infuriating.

I swear when the ump gave the free to NN against Fraser in the last - he didnt know which way he was going to pay it - panicked, blew the whistle and thought "oh shit"

The umpiring was nothing compared to the U15's match I went to watch yesterday arvo :D I reckon the central ump did everything but kick the friggin ball himself to help the opposition team.

I watched the delayed telecast ( the delay was good for me btw ) and I couldn't help but think Woosh loosened the press halfway through the 1st and went more man on man but I'm not so sure if we were just stuffed from the week before.

We had more tackles yet were pinged holding the ball double the amount they were, the Brennan non decision was a disgrace. The Gold Coast were given leniency from the umpires especially Ablett. A number of their holding the man decisions were after they disposed of the ball incorrectly.

Apart from that we were awful after the first 15 minutes and it was like watching the last few years, fumbles, turnovers, dumb play. We need to seriously get our focus back because we have 2 winnable games coming up and can really cement our top 8 spot

I had the same thought, but wasn't sure whether it was Woosh's call, or just the players getting lazy.

Either way, we should have no problems running out next week, because there was a fair bit of effort missing all game. Got the jump, and then cruised for more than 3 quarters.

Take a win and move on I spose, but that's a risky game to play. Arrogance won't take us anywhere.

Havet read the whole thread but was anyone else just bored senseless watching the game. I felt about as flat as west coast was playing
Yeah I was at the game and was happy when the final siren went. Reminded me of a Derby a couple of years ago that had turnovers every minute or two which was hard to watch.

Finally got to look at the game last night. Great first quarter but sheesh, did we go flat and tire after that. A bit of a concern or just a bi-product of a hard effort over the first 10 games? Take nothing away from Gold Coast, they gave it their all yesterday and are going to be a very good team in a few years.

I've always much preferred amatuer umpires coz they let everything but the blatant go. Which is as AFL should be umpired. Turning into a soft game where being too strong for your opponent is a cardinal sin...

With respect, thats bollocks.

No doubt, the game is more technically umpired in some respects, but strength and contested marking are more important than they have been in years and this suggestion that the game is soft is a cliche uttered by silly commentators and echoed by "the good old days" types who have flawed memories or are just old...

Yes I agree that you do need to be able to be strong and contested mark well. However guys like Kennedy and Lynch are not allowed to push too hard into their opponent because if he goes flying or falls over, its 50/50 as to whether they get a free kick.

You don't see that in amateurs. Unless you punch the bloke, its pretty much play on.

Nah - ammo umps are pretty much the same

They tend to have their favourite rules and blow the whistle for it all day long.

Thing is as well - the footy in ammos travels at a pedestrian pace compared to the AFL - as such making decisions should be easier

Yer it is harder on the blokes umpiring AFL but they call way too much. I guess its not so bad in the middle but the soft 50's that give free shots at goal make my blood boil. Either way as well...

It was odd wasn't it

even those first ten minutes or so when we got the jump didn't fire up the crowd. Then it just became frustrating because the shellacking that appeared to be a formality didn't eventuate but we never really looked like we were going to lose

I've been to funeral's with more life

Who the f*ck claps the opposition team when they run out on the ground? I was a little staggered when there was a cheer go up when they ran on.

Had supporters around me cheering the suns on after we got the fast start - hoping they'd be competitive.

I was hoping we put the foot on the throat.

The team and the supporters both seemed to lack any intensity at all.
