Surely you jest!!! Haven't played footy since filling in a few times at Yea in 2005. I strained a hammy this year jogging around in a few drills one cold night in June whilst trying to give the boys something to smile and laugh about ...... it worked :D

Still not as good as my old mate from the Kangaroos who shall remain nameless, decided to make a "comeback" as a playing coach, started on the bench, tore his calf jogging onto the ground in his first attempt, never to play again, didn't even make it into position... Hilarity at it's finest... :thumbsu::D

Well I have already tried one of them, didn't know the other may be on the move?
Plenty of potential recruits out there, its just trying to see who fits into an already successful side and not someone who wants to run the show.

Better start training one of your backman to play the position......that will give you 8-10 weeks before they start whining " my space - keep out":D

Doona I have some heart felt advice for u...... stop worrying about your last coaching ventures, never feel sorry for yourself and get the heck off big footy and get ya arse back into the game. There is a role for u at romsey and we all do it tough in the coaching circles. I know how meach feels with all the players of his getting approached because most of my players are getting offered double and triple what they are currently on by rival rdfl clubs. Jump onboard with me doona because unlike sum of these dedperate clubs I am using the foresight to recruit outside this league. Dont be lost to footy mate, lets get back into it together and build an empire ova time
Have you lost many from Romsey mongrel and if so anyone of any importance

Sunbury have been going 26 Years it is only the last 10 that they have been able to build a successful club. It is not all to do with money, but culture and Junior and Senior development.
If you build a club with a strong culture people are happy to play and stay.
Not everybody is in the same position, Look at the different sized towns we have, Juniors are not knocking the doors down at all clubs.

Diggers Rest have only a small handful of Junior teams, but work hard off the field to build a place that people want to be at. Financially and Culture.
Melton Centrals are the same, used to be the whipping boys like Sunbury that nobody wanted to play for, with little juniors, now they are working to become a finals side
Rockbank 4 or 5 years ago nobody wanted them around, a few incidents created bad publicity for the club, who would want to play there. the club has worked hard to change the image and it is starting to pay off. A town with a few thousand people, and i think 2 junior teams.
Last year it was clear that steps are being taken to attract players. I can bet they would be lucky to have a total budget of some of the other clubs 4 or 5 top players combined payments. People are now at least thinking of playing there. How would a point system help them?

Rupo would be best suited for the points system, they have one of the best junior developments in the country. As stated by Roota about a club in his league, they could go out splash cash to a small handful of guns and still be under the point cap.
Pretty much nailed the issue in one post. Agree with everything Discreet has said on the matter too. A points system will never work. If you're unhappy with your clubs lot get on the committee and work your bum off. Good people, lots of helpers and hard work seems to be the key.

All seems to have quite on the recruiting front , think everyone's just keeping quite .
Has broadford or kilmore recruited anyone of interest.

Can someone give me a rundown on who's the better club socially and culture wise out of Romsey and riddell, new to the area and want to go to a club that is well respected on and off the field and have fun on a sat night

don't worry about it leighroy from what I'm hearing there may be a little bit of a walkout after a meeting that diggers may be having tomorrow night. Still plenty of news to come out of this.

Have heard the rumour but like most things its all exaggerated rubbish. AGM a fizzer. All but 3 of the 22 from the grand final side have committed.

As for Krul he is in a long term relationship with one of the vice captains sister. Player turn over is a fact of local footy. Every club has players who have played at an opposition club. Certainly lots of RDFL clubs calling Diggers players the last month. I'm pretty sure everyone accepts its part of the game.

Good try Olly21, I see you have made similar queries about Moonee Valley and Myrtleford football clubs in the past. And for someone who is new to the area, why did you make a post congratulating Mark and the Redbacks after their win in 2011?

I accept recruiting new players is part of the game Dasher23, but I do not like the cannibalistic attitude of so many RDFL clubs feeding off other clubs within the league rather than looking further afield. I appreciate it is part of life, but how about these clubs start nurturing their own players or look at recruiting good imports from elsewhere rather than poaching internally from within the RDFL?

The issue isn't player turn over, it's long been an unwritten rule that the stronger top sides don't go attacking the list of the developing sides, especially when those discussions take place over 12 months plus.
The facts are, a developing club isn't as well positioned in a negotiation as the more developing clubs, it's a simple fact, it's about developing a culture that players want to be a part of, but sometimes, that isn't just enough, other factors will come into play.

So while contacting players is a part of the game, etiquette and long term competitiveness of the competition as a whole usually take precedence, but these things happen, the club will wish Matty all the best and move on, that's the nature of footy.
