im glad you were just being technical. lol. because in all seriousnes if melton ,the marsh or sunbury had their first teams in a side like romsey wouldnt be able to compete .we try to draw a team from 3000 ppl, melton have about 30000,maybe more
think its around 70,000 now mate

The 70,000 includes the Caroline Springs Hillside Diggers Rest Rockbank, Eynesbury, Exford etc etc, For the Melton township I believe it is around that 30,000 mark, divided between 3 senior and junior football clubs. There is 7 senior and junior football clubs in the whole Shire, who knows, in the future there maybe a Melton Shire Football District League with the 8th junior club about to be formed in the Caroline Springs area of Burnside in the next 12 months.

WHat are the clubs feelings on the two Melton sides or even one of them potentially returning to the competition, would it be seen as a positive for the competition etc!

Not too sure, i know there will be a senior and under 18 game and also a netball side. check out the fixture on the league site it may state which division we will be playing on the Queens birthday weekend.
The RDFL will host the 2009 game and the SFL will host it in 2010.
Southern div 3 are fixtured to play that weekend so it will be div 1 or 2.
this was posted in a localfooty.com.au article during the year
"Mr McCartney said it was likely the league would play a representative team from the SFL's second and third divisions."

Previous post by Blues12 seems to be close to the mark

Try again....What's the problem

Bloke running it is born and bred WRFL (if its who I think it is - have to ask the Mrs, she met him at the league presentation night last year). Don't fancy your chances.

What happened with the earnest discussions RDFL were having with Rockbank the other night? Cone of silence seems to have descended...

My ratings for the RDFL players from the weekend..

1. Kane Bullen 8, was outstanding across half back, excellent leadership and gave the RDFL drive and direction.
2. Steve Ruane 8, gave crumbing option up forward in the first half before switching to a wing and giving the RDFL a way out of defence.
3. Jai Wilton 6, beat his opponent but unfortunately wasn't able to find a lot of the football on the way out of defence.
4. Shaun Sims 6, was the best user of the ball in the RDFL midfield, unfortunately couldn't get his hands on it enough, but was damaging when he did.
5. Brian Wheelahan 6, got plenty of the ball in the first half and put good tackling pressure across the half forward line. Quiet in 2nd half.
6. Ash Fleming 6, was outstanding in the first half and excellent target for the RDFL, the 2nd half found the ball at his toes more than up high but continued to work hard to provide a target.
8. Myles Dorman 8, won the RDFL medal, took both the mark of the day in the first quarter and kicked goal of the day in the last, what an outstanding talent this boy is.
9. Bobby Johnson 7, part of a backline that was outstanding, gave plenty of drive from half back and took several great marks as 3rd man up.
11. Cameron Dawson 8, got plenty of the ball off the wing in the 1st half, went to half forward and made one of the SFL's first half stars so accountable he had to take himself off.
13. Travis Smith 9, was in the coaches opinion the RDFL's best. Backline pressure and drive was outstanding and continually hit up targets through the middle.
14. Leigh Wilson 7, was the surprise packet, hard at the ball and continually had SFL opponents side stepping.
15. Luke Carroll 7, his first half was superb, racked up possession and always looked dangerous with his delivery.
16. Grant Wearne 8, some in the league may have been unaware of this young defender, but should know who he is now, his closing speed and ability to keep his feet and set up RDFL attacks was outstanding.
17. Darren Goodwin 6, worked hard as a link up all day, as the game went on became more and more dangerous around stoppages.
18. Chris Meacham 9, looked the most dangerous forward for both sides, was my best on ground, repeatedly had 3 or 4 opponents against him yet was never outmarked, kicked 3 and with more opportunity could have kicked anything.
20. Ryan Connellan 5, was unlucky, ended up playing more of a forward role and didn't get into the ruck, but was never outmarked, bringing the ball to ground and creating space for other forwards.
21. Matt Knox 8, led up well, gave the RDFL another target across half forward, if he kicked straight would have been BOG.
22. Damien Niki 5, struggled to get into the tempo of the game, but gave a hard body presence over the ball.
24. Jamie Cuffe 7, dominated the hitouts and worked back hard, taking several marks in defensive 50.
25. Brian Ruffell 6, continually led and worked hard, looked at times like he would bust the game open, when Meacham was firing he sacrificed his own game for the good of the team.
26. Aaron Christianson 6, found plenty of the ball around the midfield and put good defensive pressure on, if he could kick 50 he would have been the talk of the game.
29. Luke Walker 7, was outstanding until he hurt his shoulder, disappeared out of the game a little after that, but a good news story after a tough week for the Rams.
30. Tom Waters 5, was excellent in the ruck contests, had a touch of the fumbles in the marking contests but gave excellent service as a back up to Cuffe.
33. Leigh McInerney 6, worked hard both ways and his tackling pressure was excellent. Gave an excellent midfield option for the RDFL.

IMS best
Chris Meacham, Travis Smith, Grant Wearne, Myles Dorman, Cam Dawson, Matt Knox, Steve Ruane.

I hadn't heard anything to the contrary so I ran with your explanation. I was wondering when the selection criteria for the SFL changed from Mr McCartneys statement on localfooty.com.au early on, to when the teams ran out on the ground.

The second part was input as I posted the same message last Friday and whilst it intially was on the thread it mysteriously disappeared over the weekend, wasn't sure if I was being censored.

Overall then it sounds like it was a winner. Everyone who had their hand in organising it should be congratulated then. Hopefully its the start of more things to come for all the lads in representative football! :thumbsu:

Luke Walker actually fractured a rib during the start of the last quarter. Played out the game though.

Was a good game day all round. Umps, players and supporters did quite a good job.

Cam Dawson was B.O.G in my opinion and Meccham's hands were remarkable in the conditions.

absolutely agree, dorman kicked a great goal, took a great mark. but dawsone was in my opinion best..

Righto, Interleague is done and dusted for '09, now it's back to business.

Sunbury Kangaroos are hosting Woodend in a huge game for both clubs. For Woodend, a loss would potentially put them a game and a half outside the 6, and although there is plenty of footy to come, that will be difficult to overcome. Sunbury have fallen to 4-3 after their undefeated start, and will be looking to put their season back on track. This could go either way, I'll go Sunbury in a close one, 3 pts.

A rampant Romsey are travelling to Wallan this week, and should be pretty freah after only having half a game before the break. Wallan have struggled this year, but are starting to be more competetive with the return of some senior players. Won't be enough this week however, and Romsey to win by how ever many Gazza kicks.

Diggers Rest have found their groove after a slow start, and travel to Broadford this week. Broadford have yet to set the world on fire in their first year in the league, their wins coming against Kilmore and Rockbank. With Lefty and Ruane in good form I expect the Burras to win this, 4 goals in the wet.

Rockbank host Macedon this week, and I imagine the recent events will have unsettled the club who were struggling already. Macedon are proving to be a very good side, and will have no trouble with this clash, 80 pts.

League leaders Riddell travel to Macpherson Park to take on Melton Centrals. Centrals are struggling a bit at present, but are a capable side, whilst Riddell continue to travel nicely. Gonna be an ordinary day weather wise, which could bring Centrals into it at home. Not enough though, Riddell by 13 pts.

Lancefield to beat Kilmore.

Good luck to everyone, enjoy the predicted winter weather:eek:

Well done to RDFL for staging a great day on Saturday. I know the league cop a pasting every now and again, but this time they deserve the chocolates.

My tips for this weekend.

Sunbury v Woodend is easily going to be game of the round. Woodend trying to hold onto there season and Sunbury trying to get back on track. I think the break would have done wonders for a lot of the Kangaroos boys, but the big question I have is if Bobby Johnson goes to either Knox or Else, who takes the other? Both have been in great form, but Woodend need other avenues to goal. This is set to be a great game. Woodend - 12 points

Moorecroft to take over the goal kicking this weekend. Romsey - 100+

I know a lot of people will pencil in the burra for this game, but I read a facebook status by there number 1 ruckman Craig Thompson that said "just arrived in London and the flight was HUGE!" This means they only have Shane Marchewka in the ruck and anyone associated with the burra knows that his body hasn't been his best friend over the years. It also means the good work Thommo does across the half back line will be missing as well. Don't be surprised of an upset, but Fitzy should have the answers. Diggers Rest - 18 points

I feel sorry for Rockbank and I hope that everything that has gone on over the past fortnight can be put behind them and they can move on and build a successful club. Sadly I don't believe that the cats are going to feel any sympathy. Macedon - 86 points

It was good to see the Centrals take it up to the tigers, only going down by 5 goals last time. What the cause for that was I'm not sure, but Riddell better come out firing or they could find themselves on the wrong end of the result. I have been saying for a few weeks that Riddell will drop one sooner rather then later, but they have too much talent to drop this one. Riddell - 35 points

The only difference between Lancefield winning by under 10 goals as opposed to over 10 goals is if Ruffell kicks straight this week. Saw Kilmore last round and I must say they were quite disappointing. There twos are playing pretty good though which suggests there might be some depth there and they also seem to have some good players in there under 18's, so as far as there long term future is concerned it seems pretty good. As for the immediate future.....they might be on struggle street. Lancefield - 60 points.

Good luck to everyone and enjoy the cold weather.

Whats the suprise about Wilson, seen him play a game this year and a game last year and looked a class above the rest of the blokes on the field both times

Went to Macedon last week & enjoyed the spectacle even in tough conditions. Players seemed to give their all and the day was well supported considering how god dam cold it was. Sat near the coaches box all day and was interested to see how they interracted. I know geddies was in charge with help from Lancefield coach & centrals coach (not sure of their names) but who was the other big fellow who had a role, is it Sunburys coach Dickson? he seemed to be the most influential figure on the day. Well done to everyone involved the teams were very evenly matched.
Off to watch hawks v roos this week in a do or die clash for hawks. Things arent panning out as they hoped and a few cracks have appeared from what im told. But i believe they have had it over roos for s few years now so hoping they will bounce back into contention this week

Scores from Clancy Reserve, Kilmore:

Kilmore: 8.3 51
Lancefield 3.10 28

Lancefield bitterly disappointing in freezing conditions. Had absolutely no structure moving forward and struggled to hit targets.

Kilmore played attacking footy all day and deserved the points
