Big Game this week 3rd vs 1st
Kangaroos Vs Diggers Rest
2:00 Boardman reserve
This could be match of the year, if you have no plans get up there, and show your support to local footy, the vibe around both clubs and towns is great so it should make for a great day, the forecast is for no rain, hopefully it stays this way and we see a great display of football.

Any truth to the Sims, Bev Green and Col Laurie rumour?
The spies are earning there money;) . That is around the mark I think.Another couple of important outs as well that only happened during the week but it is off set by the 4 coming back. Both sides will be below full strength by the looks of it.

Good game of football today between Diggers and the Kangas.. Diggers by 14 points but should have put the Roos away in the first half..

Great game to watch though, and the crowd was fantastic...

Only one disappointing feature of the game.. I wont say it myself, but those who watched the game will know what im talking about.

Get fair dinkum Roge. You cant come on a forum and make a statement like that and not back it up with some substance. What was the disapointing feature? Dont be such a squib and wait for someone else to come out and tell us RDFL followers what happened. You are the guru of this forum who loves to be kept in link so be fair and let us all in on the 'disapointing feature' of todays game!

Was it that Jamesy couldnt finish his second bucket of KFC before 3 quarter time??

Great effort by Diggers without their two key defenders in Grant and Green. Also missed the pace of Laurie and Tyquin.Kilty did his shoulder in he first quarter and Sims was at half pace due to a hyper extended elbow from the week before. Also a great effort from the kangas with some very big outs as well as Niki going down mid match.Could easily have thrown in the towel after Diggers completely dominated early but came back to make a game of it.

well done to Diggers, full credit to all the roos finished with no one on the bench and probably 2 on the ground that shouldn't have stayed on, but a loss is a loss. 6 goal head start at half time is hard to catch up on, the roos were very slow to get going but finished well, diggers are a great side and should win the flag. James may have been the dif but who knows, hopefully we will find out come finals. m.mcinerney is a big loss for the roos, but i am bias, the roos must keep winning to be a big show this september.
diggers at the moment to win the flag best i have seen so far.
I am rapt with this competition this year it is great to see a league so close.

Sorry footyhead.. I realise that everyone would like details, but due to the RDFL media rule this year, its difficult to make any comments about the standards of umpiring.

Will just say that it was a little disappointing on the weekend, and had to much impact on the game....

But you cant have a game without them, and I realise they are trying thier best.. Just a bit disappointing is all...

think its safe to say Roge3 that the umpiring was against both sides every now and then throughout the game , i honestly think the kangas had the run of them in the crucial last qtr. But at the end of the day it was a good game of footy and from a diggers point of a few a very good result and it shows when a team are coming back like kangaroos were we just dont lie over and die we ground out a solid win..

agree with billylid. i was at the game and the umpireing was equally horrible.the new rule about chopping the arms in a contest is a joke. great game for diggers to win with bev, lefty, tyquin and herritage to all come back in. damian niki is a superstar and i love watching him play. was very dissapointed with the big sunbury kangaroo bloke at centre half back lee or leeroy?? for someone his size he has to have an inpact on the game

I am honestly stunned that anyone would suggest that Diggers had the best of the umpiring but its understandable that different supporters see different things.

Bit of a game of contrasting styles.Diggers like it in close and try and force contests and Kangas like to get out and run.As the game went on Kangas were able to find more space.I think Laurie and Tyquin would have been very dangerous in the first half when Diggers had so much of the play as they are probably Diggers best finishes.

That is two blinders that Garth Ploog has played against Diggers this year.

I happened to watch the game and Diggers clearly dominated the first half... but how dangerous are the kangaroos once they get out and create space! Little King (dont know his 1st name) dominated the second half, aswell as Rick Scott out on that wing (how much posessions did he manage to rack up...) as did the PLOOG boys who manage to do well week in week out.. i tend to think prehaps with both sides having a full list to pick from we might see DIGGERS and the ROOS line up side by side on the last day in September.... what do you think?

Maybe but dont write off Bombers and Romsey. They have the runs on the board as far as winning big finals go.Kangas probably match up better on those two who play a similar style.Roos probably lack a couple of ball winners but the big grounds that the finals are played on will suit them.Big ask for roos to go from never playing finals and go straight to a granny.

It was probably the most depleted line up Diggers has had since last years finals in terms of the importance of players that were out.Really big win for them. Also Dan Reilly dominated in the reserves and is ready to resume in the seniors next week.Arnel will be much better for the run as well.

Agree totally, The umpiring standard was the same for both sides... Just that they were overall disappointing in the game.. Toward both sides..

spot on, we all know that riddell and romsey are never easy come finals, dont forget about woodend they are very young and quick but lack the experience as do the roos. But it would be fantastic to have a burras- roos final and it would be a big ask but a possability if they continue to play the way they are. the roos also were missing a couple mark mcinerney is a ball getter and a major loss for the roos as is welsh, dont forget the roos had no bench for the last quarter of the game, but that is not why they lost, they only played 2 quarters. the roos will continue to surprise.

Lets not forget people that Diggers are also a very young side as well , if you look at the senior side its wouldnt be outrageous to say that 90% of the players are under the age of 24. It has been suggested that Kangaroos only payed 2 qtrs well its also far to say the burra only played the first half and be it swithcing off or lack of intenisty there second half was not that great

billylid look at the whole comp. diggers and riddell have young players on their lists but they have experience behind them that is why you are favourite at the moment. you say switched off or something after half time, your forgetting the roos actually started to play good football so your boys weren't shinning like they were, give some credit where it is due. the roos lost it in the first half and diggers should have buried them, they started the second half with a 6 goal lead. who cares anyway, you won we lost end of story, hopefully we meet again this year.

blues12 dont take my comments out of context , i rate kangaroos very highly and think there will be one of the main contenders come Sept dont worry about that. i was just trying to make the point it was a game of two halves thats for sure

Agree.. It was a game of 2 halves.. And stupid to argue about ifs and buts... Diggers won the game over the 4 quarters that were played, its that simple, doesn't matter who won what quarter and where.. Diggers were better on the day... They won!!!!

Garth is having an outstanding season.. He has come such a long way this year, and I for one am looking forward to seeing him continue to improve this season into finals.. :thumbsu:

Huge round of football this weekend, with match of the round Diggers vs Riddell. A lost for Ridell could see them possibly fall from 2nd to 5th, whilst a Diggers loss would drop them to only 1 game ahead of 2nd. Im gonna call riddell over the burra in a terriffic game by 3 points.

Final Ladder for 2006

1. Diggers Rest: Made the early call this season and stick by it.
2. Riddell: Still the sleeping giants of the 2006 finals series. With a fit James are capable of beating anyone with their finals experience.
3. Woodend Hesket: Consistent in senior and reserves footy. Depth will be a vital factor come finals.
4. Romsey: Senior side has high expectations but will just scrape into the finals.
5. Sunbury: Same as romsey, a lack of depth will hurt them late in the season with injuries and general soreness affecting results.
6. Kilmore: The only other side withthe ability to make finals this year.
7. Melton: Too far behind to have any impact
8. Macedon: Will look at catching melton
9. Lancefield: Try and consolidate 2nd last
10. Rockbank: Will compete with lancefield for wooden spoon.

the roos take on macedon in the hills this week, injuries could put them to the test although a couple of names to come back into the side could help. they must win this and next week vs kilmore to cement a spot. you say lacking depth! dont forget the first half of the season, they still managed to beat top sides with many injuries, if anything, it could cost the reserves a spot in the 5, they need to just about win 4 out a 5 to scrape in, big task the way they are playing lately. but it would be great to see the roos with 2 sides in sep.
Go Roos

I think the kangas have got the depth, it will be tested over next few weeks though, how has the loss of that young ruckman woolcock impacted? if at all? could we get a full listed of the rdfl's injuries and how long they will be out for?

You do realise blues12 the only reason the kangaroos survived early in the season, and continued to pull of big wins was that it was early in the season!!! Injuries and general soreness do not take their toll until the later half of the year. Therefore now is the time where we may see the demise of senior competitors with poor reserves sides ie kangaroos and romsey.

Don't get me wrong, if you can continue to pull off these wins i take my hat of to you, but without the depth throught he entire senior football club i cannot see it happening.
