Are south that cashed up? Not sure it serves a purpose to drop down a number of levels from Ballarat league to Riddell league and then go recruit to many high profile players who play similar positions. They appear to have enough firepower in midfield and forward for Riddell comp.
Its a good point you make Turbo, but having watched them last year, they were completely non-competitive and would have finished down the bottom end of the rdfl with that list.

They are in dire need to recruit but not sure their recruiting strategy is the right one going fwd.

This was my concern when they were in Ballarat but it's admittedly hard to get people through the door when your side is struggling.
The change in comps may help build some excitement around the club that helps them in coming years.
Either way, it'll be interesting to see how they go.

Do south have the money to actually throw around???
Players from last year still owed match payments. Interesting watch
I’ve heard the same, players have been asked to hold off to March this year.
Pretty tough to wait when they’ve gone out and signed the likes of Pickett and Darley and a few others to big coin and big sign-ons and then ask the current playing group to stay in good faith.
They must have some good sponsors stumping up money early.
Time will tell.

Don’t believe everything you read on hear. Never known South not to pay players.

Also to hold current players you be actively recruiting to become better otherwise your digging a big hole. Players get excited about these types of signings even if they happen to be waiting. That’s what clubs should be doing.

Not to sure why they posted that because he signed with Maroochydore Kangaroos quite awhile back, he’s from that way and believe he had a brother that plays for them too

Yep, players were told if they sign for 2025, then they’ll get their outstanding match payments for 2024 by March

That’s laughable mate. I know a player who was recruited and on good coin and his been fully paid. Oh and just to clarify he hasn’t signed on again as going back to his country town to work and play footy. So your comment is 💯 incorrect.

A nice case of Blackmail if that's the case. Sign on and get paid for your services what an awesome culture.
A few people on here appear to be worried about Melton South this year by some of these outlandish comments. Don’t worry they will be fine and as some posters mentioned why worry as South won’t win many. 😜😜😎

Yep changed his mind and advertised himself on a fun for hire website
I’ve heard he changed his mind for very legitimate family related reasons. He was 100% going back home initially, hence why he signed at his home club.
That said, the highest bidder is where he is likely to go now he’s staying in VIC - South have thrown their hat in the ring, though given the money they’re paying Darley, it’d be a hell of a financial commitment to sign Cumberland as well.

1-I’m really unsure why a player of his statue and age would even consider playing Riddell league when his best to play higher level country footy.
2- Not sure south need Cumberland as they have plenty of players who play similar position.
3- With Pickett & Darley they probably have enough high end talent now.
4- Budget restraints if they went for Cumberland surely…
5- I’m thinking he goes out far and doesn’t train just plays Saturday hence the Riddell is not suitable to manage this situation.
6- Could a big metro club like Heideburg which is close to him make a huge counter offer??

Agree with all those points. I’d be surprised if he chose South if he gets the same type of offers from metro based clubs.

The only reason he would play for south is to play along with Pickett and that doesn’t seem guaranteed

Yes that would be a possibility if they were close at Richmond. I just can’t see South’s budget extending that far when they probably have a need for a big bodied key defender rather than a mid type going off the recruits.

Anyway great to see South grabbing some attention on the thread.

What about the clubs down the bottom how are they looking to see improvement and competitiveness across the competition??

Too right mate. I’m surprised it’s taken South this long though. what was stopping them from doing this the last few years?

Looks like most clubs have gone a little quiet over the Christmas break but Lancefield have recruited some handy players. Would love to see them climb the ladder again. It’s been a long time.

They weren’t down the bottom last year, but a little birdy told me Macedon are keeping quiet but extremely confident in their flag chances this year.
