For the last time, do you think Jake Lever will re-sign with Adelaide?

Interesting as up until now Pyke has swatted away any questions about them re-signing. Wonder what his reasoning is to suddenly start talking about it.

The longer this has dragged out, the less confident I feel about it... particularly Lever, who appears to becoming up with different reasons why he hasn't signed. Could be part of his negotiation technique, but feels more like Dangerfield not wanting to say the truth. Hopefully, I'm wrong.
They've obviously had a big team meeting and said enough is enough . JJ hosed down questions the other day and got on front foot and now Pyke

Time to focus on finals

Are you kidding?

This would be David Noble and co if we were to demand Brisbane's first pick for Charlie Cameron

Cameron has been in our system now for about 4 years and has not yet taken the next step and the jury is out whether he will ever take the next step.

Honestly I am not even that fussed if he leaves, realistically the best we will get for him would be Brisbane's 2nd round pick.
That's what they should be saying. It what we'd be saying too when they are asking before the season has even finished in a radio interview. Pyke's slap down was warranted.

Why can't we sell the dream?

Hawks and Cats were able to get people to sign for unders and keep their teams largely together, with most players turning down the big offers from elsewhere.

Almost a pact between players, driven by who? The club? Senior players?

For whatever reason we've retained an every-man-for-himself element with it being common even for 'loyal' players like Lynch and Jenkins to test the waters deep into the season.

I'm curious about this too

We managed to hold together McLeod Goodwin Edwards and Ricciuto without much fuss

I agree, but there is a degree of right place right time about it.

They were all good players when they left and have continued to be good players after they've left, but none really developed as they may have if they stayed here from an individual sense (comparing Davis to Talia, Gunston to Lynch, Tippett to Jenkins etc.)

Again, Dangerfield the exception.

I don't know how you can say that

Davis Gunston and Tippett all became better players than they were with us

How was their development stunted?

Tippett' became an outstanding ruck/forward, easily the best of his kind in the league. Just couldn't stay fit.

Gunston became much better than most imagined

And Davis I think was overrated from the start but he left so early he's not been held back.

The Hawks see Burton as a key plank in their next Premiership contending team.

You are correct, there is no way on gods green earth would they contemplate trading Burton.

Plus they just extended his contract by 2 years.
Doesn't seem to mean much these days to have a contract. Just means the club can't get rid of you if you are playing crap.

Adam Treleor, Josh Bruce, Taylor Adams, Dom Tyson, Tom Boyd, Caleb Marchbank, Lachie Plowman, Will Hoskin-Elliott, Jack Steel, Cam McCarthy

There's a few of the 30 odd players that GWS has lost over the last few years.

A lot of clubs including Adelaide circling players like Josh Kelly, Jacob Hopper and Devon Smith this year.
Also still got a zillion first rounders still on the books.

By a credible source?

A mate knows someone who is closely connected with the club. He told me about Matt Crouch's re-signing before it came out and something else that escapes me. Time will tell, but I am confident that he has only passed on what he's heard, whether his mate has got the good oil is something that I have no view on. The result of this will help in that regard.
