Vale Bill Welsh and Don Howell
The Collingwood Football Club would like to pay tribute to two former players of the 1950s who have passed away recently

Bill Welsh, who played eight games for us in 1950, was our oldest living past player, but he died on Tuesday, aged 95.

Bill, a key forward in the country and primarily a half-forward flanker at VFL level, played eight games and kicked eight goals for us in his debut season before turning his back on Melbourne to return to his home town of Yinnar, near Morwell.

Bill's son, Peter, would go on to enjoy a fine career with Hawthorn and Richmond.

Don Howell, meanwhile, was another country product. He came from Portland and joined St Kilda in 1953 as a promising centreman. He crossed to Victoria Park after three years and 29 games with the Saints, and played 17 games for us across two seasons, including nine in our Premiership season in 1958, playing mostly as a wingman/forward.

Pat Dalton Perth FC

John "no not that one" Curtin, 2 games for St Kilda in 1947, appears to have died.

A facebook message lead me to a death notice which led me to search the cemetery site and there is one entry that matches the DOB.

Nothing on the St Kilda website.

I know that we often find out about deaths weeks, months or years later, but there are currently no known deaths of ex-VFL/AFL footballers since 13 December. Longest drought on record. Hope there isn't a flood coming. Pat Dalton (Perth) the only ex-footballer with a Wikipedia article to have died this year.

For anyone who doesn't have this (from AFL Record Season Guide 2020):
Thanks for that... 23 of the 66 weren't previously recorded on Wikipedia. John Curtin was not on their list.
Would be nice if they also added a list of "previous years obits" about people who died in previous years but were only found last year.

Paddy Guinane has passed away. Today (9.12).

He was 80.

Richmond premiership player 1967.

Some may not know, but Paddy was a great racing man, very passionate about the races.

He was a regular patron going pretty much every week I reckon.

I have seen him week on week at the Melbourne race tracks. Will be missed.

His regular table at Caulfield (just in front of my group’s table) will not be true same.

Vale Paddy.
Paddy also played a couple of seasons 1969 - 70 at Dandenong VFA club

John Schneebichler 61 South Adelaide 234 Glenelg 25 South Australia 5 games

Played in 2 losing GFs - 1 for South in 1979 and 1 for Glenelg in 1988

AF already on the case
The poor bugger! It's already been updated on his Wiki page as well, but if someone can fix this it would be good:

It certainly wasn't 1961 when he captained the side, but this article says:

I like the new look, BTW GC!

Credit to this thread for honoring fallen players that are non AFL.

Historically they contributed to our indigenous game and a chance to remember past players or learn about them.

Tom McNeil (8 games St Kilda 51-52) has died.
