Lindsay McGie before my time but quality
I always liked Bob Kingston but his knees were shot
Carl Fragomeni would have been a 1977 premiership player but for injury
Ray Huppatz came in at the end of his career but still a fine player
John Spry a premiership ruckman at North and Port
Paddy Ryder unlucky
Dexter Kennedy wrecked by illness
And a lot of good bit players like Scott Spalding, Bobby Whatman, Robert Dolan if Darcy makes it

All four played seniors at rival clubs when Port Adelaide's primary focus/highest level was the SANFL.

That's a really dodgy interpretation. :p They only came to Port because we joined the AFL. Had they come and played sanfl for Port fair enough.

Your rules but they don't fit.

Forgetting Bob Hank during WW2?

That would have been the joined up sides of the war. Can't really count them. That's dodgier than counting Lade et al. :D

So going by your logic, they wouldve joined port even if we didnt enter the afl?
Im not so sure.

I'm not hinting at that at all. But I guess they could've said no like Garry McIntosh and Darren Jarman.

Would have to agree Milan Faletic.
Sticks Dolan already mentioned somewhere here.
Bomber Clifford is a shoe-in, watched him tear apart most opposition midfields.
We did have Mark Dawson in 1979 - only stayed a year, but it was a good one.
Jeff Blethyn - wasn't he part of the 1977 premiership?
Danny something - played for magpies, went to Melbourne but was then recruited back to Adelaide? Surname is escaping me at the moment. Full back type.
Will have to rack my memory for others.

I think Ford's right, it's a bit spurious to say that the SANFL went from top level to not top level between the '96 and '97 seasons.

However, I have no better suggestions about where to draw the line.

Carry on.

But it did for Port m8. But yeah, it's an inexact science.

SANFL-only side and apologies in advance for inevitably obvious omissions...

F: Bob McLean, Tim Evans, Ray Huppatz.
HF: Bomber Clifford, David Granger, Milan Faletic.
C: Fabian Francis, Robbie West, Anthony Darcy.
HB: Richard Foster, Brian Leys, Carl Fragomeni.
B: Steve Curtis, Richard Ambrose, Paul Rizonico.
R: Russell Johnston, Mark Williams, Fos Williams.
Int: Dexter Kennedy, Phil Harrison, Phil McGuinness, Haydn Bunton Sr. (even though he only played 16 games for 30 goals, I had to squeeze him in!)

What about Dick "The Rock" Russell ... 121 games 3 best and fairest 18 state games
He made is in Ports Greatest Team in 2000
Which team did he play for before Port? I dont know of any. That is the criteria, had to play for another SANFL team or interstate team.

Not sure how we recruited him.
Technically he never played for Port - he played for the amalgamated Port-West Torrens side during the years the comp was suspended ie 1942, 43 and 44.

Dave Granger only played league for St Kilda (3 games) after he went back there for a season in 1979 when he had already been at Port for 4 years.

Don't think that fits tribey criteria. A ruling ref?

Aye, senior debut for Port. #gavelnoise

Danny Hughes? Played for Crows too if that's who you are thinking of ...

Ah, shit. Now I have to move Faletic to CHF. And bring McGuinness off the bench to the flank.

Now who to bring in... Spry? Dolan? Ian Verrier? Tony Malakellis? Steven Knight? Roger Kerr?

Wanted to put Mark Dawson and Mark Lawson on the same line for shits'n'giggles...
