I suppose the whole idea of it is basically to stop pirating to some extent from some countries to overseas, such as the poorer asian nations who are known for selling there kind of products for cheap in bulk.
All new DVD sets sold in Australia are set to region 4
However over the internet there are guides available on how to unlock your player and set it to region 0 which can supposedly play any overseas DVD.
LG dvd players hack codes are generally more accesable over the internet than most, However all new Sony DVDs should allready be capable of playing region 1,2,3,4,5 and 6 discs i believe.
