Regional Express (Rex) - Another Aussie Airline Struggling

Not good news for Aussie travellers, Rex employees or the local communities that Regional Express serves. For some that will mean a loss of local doctors.

The regional carrier is understood to be working with EY, which could be appointed as administrator at an emergency board meeting tonight.

After Bonza, Tiger etc, who will be brave enough to step into the market if it all goes pear shaped?

Or will there be a big hole in communities; passenger travel loss means less family visits, tourists, visiting professionals etc.

Probably a small amount of mail / freight carried on most Rex flights too.

The ABC are reporting Rex has entered voluntary administration.

I am guessing that the government will throw a lifeline and further subsidise regional routes as the regions absolutely need an air service.

Rex was at one point the most profitable airline in the country. What happened? No doubt their regional monopoly bordered on extortion at times.
