There is a chance that Bailey may never see much time on the field, but I'm hoping he fully recovers and shows us what he is capable of. Renouf was very good for us when given the oppotunity. They both have excellent agility, I often got Renouf confused for Franklin :D

Do you think we would play both of them, and Robby as well, and all of them to take on rucking duties through out a game? One of them would have to fill a key role somewhere else, probably Renouf. How would it work if it could work?

Re: Renouf & Bailey

Bailey FF, Roughead FB/CHB. it will happen!
I agree mate i have said it about ten times like Salmon did when he played for the scum Bailey resting in the forward line the more options the better for Clarko!:thumbsu:

Re: Renouf & Bailey

It was very crushing to hear about the major injuries to bailey and muston because they both seemed like such promising players that could both have filled a role in the hawks side. However I have faith in the club doctors that they wouldn't have kept these two on if they were no chance. And with the list we have we can afford to keep a few promising players in the reserves for a bit.

Just wait and see I guess.

Re: Renouf & Bailey

Why do people want to put every decent player we have in to our already-dominant forward line?

Bailey is a ruckman, he will be competing for one of two ruck spots with our other ruckmen.

Agree...also, why would we want to move a 75+ goal kicker down back! Roughhead would be a no.1 forward in any other team.

Hodge filled the role we had been missing as a defender. If anything, Thorp or Dowler should be groomed as backmen.

Possibly to create a mismatch and exploit the lack of talls in the opposition defense. Bailey is an accurate kick for goal and ruckwork could be the thing that is doing the damage to his knees.

Re: Renouf & Bailey

Roughead will not be a permanent defender.

Gilham FB, Murphy CHB, Hodge zoning off, and then Croad will return.

Bailey has a huge up hill battle to even have a chance to get a senior game in 09. We wont see him next season unfortunatly.

Come on. Murphy isn't a CHB. He's not even a third tall. He'd get murdered against Franklin, Brown, Riewoldt, Cloke, Pav, Lucas, Richo, etc, etc.

Either Thorp has to play CHB when Croad is out or Roughie goes back against the big teams and Boyle, Thorp or Dowler come into the forward line.

Im not suggesting he is, but that is how we will line up. Teams forward lines are getting shorter, to the point that we had the chance to drop Gilham for a week against the dogs for match up purposes. I cant see us doing anything drastic, but we will wait and see.

I don't think CHB have to be big. Scarlett, Hudgton, C. Brown have continuously defeated opponents twice their size.

I think Murphy proved his potential this season, continuously replacing injured defenders several times, which hinders most momentum and highlighting his ability to improve.

In the under 18's carnival, the year both Franklin and Murphy were drafted, Murphy versed Franklin and killed him.. apparently.

Late in the season, we saw the abiltiy of Murphy moving forward and becoming a link player.. as a defender. To date, he hasn't really been anything else but a replacement player. Applying his confidence gathered this season, a strong pre-season and a chance to cement a place in our backline, I think he'll improve dramatically and offer another defence option for opponents. :thumbsu:

Re: Renouf & Bailey

reno and bailey for ruck, big robbie for CHB! :D

max played really well for us before he did his knee. where ever and whenever he plays, I'm sure he'll be a bit of a gun...

Re: Renouf & Bailey

Hoping that Bailey can stay fit and be our No.1 ruckman in tandem with Suzie in a couple of years.

Hope Mitch has a break out year in 2009. CHB young man. Let's hope our team reads:-

Guerra Croad Gilham
Birchall Thorp Hodge

Campbell Sewell Lewis
Bateman Mitchell Ellis

Brown Roughead Osborne
Williams Franklin Rioli

Int: Renouf, Dew, Ladson, Young

In reserve:-
T. Tuck
J. Morton
T. Murphy
B. McGlynn
J. Kennedy
B. Muston
B. Whitecross
M. Bailey
S. Taylor
T. Boyle
B. Dowler

C. Stokes (NR)
T. Walsh (R)
W. Sierakowski (R)

But let's be clear. Every team that has a short forward line is cursing us for our riches of talls. Teams aren't playing all smaller forwards because of some new found approach, they just don't have the big men. Even the Cats are hoping Hawkins can find a way into their forward line structure.

What does that have to do with Murphy playing in defence? I am trying to point out that we will not have a kid playing at CHB.

Re: Renouf & Bailey

Why do people keep saying this???? Roughead kicked 70 odd goals this year as a SECOND tall forward. Why on earth will you want to move him?!?!!?

it is a matter of structure, roughy to defence is not what i want, but its the fact he is the only player on the entire hawthorn list which has proven he can play there consistently.push will come to shove and rough will play in defence, with one of Thorp and Bailey up forward. Dowler will play as another HB/Wing

Are you sure Roughie has played in defence consistently? I can't remember if he's ever spent a whole game back or on a dangerous opponent.

But my point still remains. Roughead had proven himself to be a consistant worker down forward. He has also shown that he can kick a bag of goals by being the second tall forward. Thorp and Dowler have too little experience to have such impact down there.

Murphy has proven his worth as a solid backman, and will be able to handle any tasks given. Also, Big Bob has the ability to go into the backline whilst his ruck partner plays in the middle.
