I've noticed you're being quite the explorer of late! Getting likes on some pretty old stuff :D
Just ask Headless - I have been tagging him non-stop in all our team threads going back to about Season 9.

Brunswick Junction Oval facility work underway:

Here's a screeny of a map I put together for Hate a little while ago.

RDls5xV.png

It shows Punt Road Oval in the centre, while the Sin City Swamprats old ground, Alberton, is south of Punt, across the river heads, next to the Alberton Swamplands. Tiger Island, which hosted the Furies before they moved in early days, is top-right.

Dun Lop Stadium, the league's jewel in the crow, can be seen top-left corner, progressing to the left and off the map.

Central left is the beginning of the town centre - those are just commercial buildings.

To get some more perspective, Abu Ghraib is just out of sight to the south, Dragon Island is off-map to the right, The Lair is off-map to the north-east, the Golden Throne is just off-map to the north (close to Dun Lop). Brunswick Junction oval is far left on the other side of the cbd. Van Cortlandt Park is off-map down and left, on the site of the old Titans home ground.

For the match Swamprats v Roys, I recorded a journey through the sewer system to Underground Stadium. Yeah I quickly grabbed hold of some recording software (DXtory) as nothing I had would record Minecraft. This one looked "ok" but I'm still testing all of the codecs it offers - a fair bit of pixel distortion but at least at worked.

And THEN I went to AviDemux to add to music. It showed up with the water pink and every other colour off as well. Oh well, ahead I steamed.

Then on uploading to Youtube the pink was converted to blood-red. *sigh*. I guess its the sewer system, maybe we just produce more toxic waste in Sweet than a regional capital would be expected to. (and dump it directly into the stormwater drains)

Anyhoo, enjoy :

An image from near the entrance to Brunswick Junction Oval, looking west.

In the image are the Sascha Horler Lacy Stand (close) and the Moreton I. Cann Stand (behind goals). Way off in the distance can be espied the Nou Camp Shopping Centre, with Stadium In The Sky on the roof, and Underground Stadium hidden underground.

So. Many would have heard that the server crashed a few months ago. The last back-up was in about July / August last year, and when this was restored, I discovered a massive - and I mean massive - amount of development had disappeared. Tantrum-level losses. Dun Lop was a paddock ground again. The entire CBD (around 10 skyscrapers among other things) was gone, About 1000 x 1000 blocks of hand-built terraformed land mass over ocean had gone. Extensive docklands at the Freo Docklands region had reverted to empty coastline. I am concerned Undergound Stadium is also missing but I haven't looked yet. The stands and terraces shown above at the BJO are also gone. Some 40 or so additional buildings sporadically placed around the region - deleted. I think the town near the Wonders ground will be gone, and the botanical gardens nearby. The quarry and long underground cart lines from them have gone. Hate knows my pain, his own work in a different region of the server, extremely impressive, I expect are now absent.

After some months of considering it a lost cause (we've lost work multiple times here over the years including our entire initial server), I have recently decided to at least try to rebuild Dun Lop Stadium. It's possible, drawing off old screenshots, to get very close to the original design. So I've been doing that. But the loss of the CBD and the Docklands are probably too big for my level of belief in hope to handle.

Following are where we have been, went to, and are now at, with Dun Lop Stadium. I'm now cheating whenever it's a replenishment of lost work. I've been mentioning it in our match threads but it's probably worthwhile to repeat it here.

Where Dun Lop Stadium was before the crash:

Where it was when I visited a few days ago: (you can see I'd just started rebuilding one part of the stand, behind the goals).

Where it is now: (pretty much all the stands are rebuilt. You can see top-left there's still a couple of sections to be added).

I've got more roofing to add, the entrances (two, one east and one west, including road realignments), ticket boxes, foyers, access ramps, admirable snack bars ... the list goes on.

I guess I'll keep everyone posted. Hate visited the other day, and had a squiz. Of the Sweet FA community, only he, the retired Eth and Chief himself had seen the city of Sweet on this server. It is very, very, very, oh so very distant from spawn and the main population - a rail trip through the never is probably 15 minutes long. But nobody really visits the server anymore, anyway.

To help you understand my fury, I repeat this before and after segment that I posted recently in a match thread.

The view is of a main cbd street, looking from outside the entrance of the Brunswick Junction Oval.

How it used to look:

How it looks now:

Yes. That is the correct chronological order. There used to be stuff. Now there is not stuff.

Now to the positive stuff. After chatting with Fryer Tuck in our match thread yesterday, I got a little more understanding of the history surrounding the Gumbies' facilities. For his hopeful delight, I can report that the seaside arena is generally now in place.

House Of Gumby / The Lair - Geelong home ground during first period as the Gumbies, and the stint as the (not Westeros Dire, no) Wolves:

Note that the ocean behind the goals is not meant to be ocean. I had terraformed that for 1000 blocks onwards into a heavily wooded and hilly forest. The seaside is on the far side, over the road, and across some barren oceanfront property. That was handy.

House Of Gumby / The Lair and Gumby Gardens (aforementioned oceanfront property went eminent domain af and is under development as a new ground):

Both grounds again, new arena now playable:

No stand yet. No rush.

House Of Gumby indoor training venue, built on the site of the old ground. Early days, but getting there. Yeah I know it's not the size of an entire footy ground. Eminent domain cuts both ways, unfortunately.

Note I've also added a bit more land and forest to the north (behind far goals) to obscure the ocean-which-shouldn't-be-ocean anomaly.

This is a map I had on a wall within the town, edited to show the damage.

Red crosses omit builds that were there when the map was screenshotted, but since gone with the crash.
Red boxes indicate Buildings or sets of buildings that have disappeared. 12 of them in the CBD were many stories high, sometimes past the cloudline. In other regions, they were only 1 to 3 stories high.
Grey lines indicate roads which have disappeared due to the crash.
The tan area down south was an extensive dockloands build. All gone.
In the south-west there was a (simple) botanical garden. It has also gone.

At the top of the map, the painted in light green was all new terrain I had built over the ocean, meeting with an anomalous sheer/straight land mass border on the far left. This region, unlike the rest, included high hills / mountains, full forest cover, many foot trails, huts and other constructs. It also included a road connection to Outback Arena (it had not been completed). There was a hedgemaze somewhere too. The whole region was primarily to serve as just to rectify the sudden conclusion of the land, which prior was just a sheer plunge into the sea. Secondly, it was meant to be a fun forest to run around and get lost in, hidden trails and small hut surprises. All. Gone.

I know I'm banging on about it a lot, griping. But it really shits me. There's not much I can do with myself. To actually sink my teeth into a project for a couple of years, and then have half of it just wiped ... events like this are why I rarely ever bother to try anything at all.

That is absolutely tragic to hear Mobbs, I know how hollow it feels when something like this happens, just saps any and all motivation away.

The lesson is never try.
