I umpired an under 14 game today and I was reported and the away team manager took my name down and said he will report me to the league as he said my umpiring was quite bad.

What is the best course of action for me to take?
The AFL should report the flaming MRC for not charging the Kicker from Sydney!!!

If anything the coach should be taken aside and reminded that unless he wants to umpire the games himself then he should concentrate on teaching his kids what footy is about.

As for the bad day bit, so long as you feel you are decisive in your decisions (rightly or wrongly) then to me you've done a decent job.

been there in terms of bad games, luckily now after 16 years they are few and far between. Keep your chin up, I hope the thing was cleared up and you have been mentored and coached through the problem and continue to work hard on your umpiring. And to all the posters in this thread, some brilliant support and advice, well done :)

it happens occasionally, don't worry about it. it more of a worry if you have to make a thread here to cry about it.

I'm so happy to see the amount of positiveness given on this board. As someone who has dealt with newer umpires for some time, it's easy to see them knocked down early by unfair criticism by people that should be looking at their own actions first.

I wouldn't worry about it at all. If you have any concerns about your game, then speak with your coach about them. If the only concern you had with your game was that this guy wanted to report you to the league, then I'm sure you're fine. Did any other umpire say anything about your game?

Good luck with your future umpiring career. This game needs more people willing to give it a go, and less whiners on the sideline directing their disgust at the wrong people.

I want to add a few things from a players/coaches perspective. This doesn't apply to all umpires, but it does apply to a few.

- There's no need to pay a free kick every few minutes, I've found that a couple of umpires in our league feel the need to constantly pay free kicks
- We're not babies, a lot of umpires run around treating the players like we're babies. For example if someone lays a hard (fair) tackle the umpy will pay some B.S freekick that has basically nothing to do with the tackle. (Push in the back, when the tackle was in the side etc.)

But other than that yous do a pretty good job.

To the op I have refereed basketball at fairly high levels and have had the same thing said and done by coaches but to no avail. Keep it up and don't let it get to you. If you are concerned then talk to the league about the coach beahviour and or team behaviour and ask not to be given their games agin this season. the funniest was the complsaint was made after they lost an unloseable game and we were found to have a few errors and many good calls (and exceptionally good too) on the ones they really complained about. Generally **** head coaches like these have no ideas about the rules and their interpretations and complain because they think they're right and are really clueless gits. Also you regardless of how bad or poor you think you did or they think you did were not the fault. 45 points is a walloping in juniors or in any footy and the only reason they lost is due to their own incompetence and the coach's incompetence. Good Luck and keep going please for your and all others sake.

Cheers,

Dymot.

I got reported in an Under 17's game by the goal umpire for calling a bloke a flog over the fence, It got thrown out when we challenged it lol
