Views on starters and drinks pushed by staff?

example: Indian restaurant buffet-style, fixed cover, ree-ee-asonably priced.
Charismatic host sashays over and insists you and your party try a most delicious drink while you're hungry: Mango lassi . This comes at 4.40 a piece, compared with the $18 cover. Aw the meal's cheap, let's try one. down with 4 X 1 each. Very tasty and sweet...say, kind of filling.

Now: struggle to eat 1 plate of food at buffet, and pass on the dessert.

I say it's a trick to stop the buffet raider types who have 3 plates and the dessert...hey! some more puris out here please!

It's a cop out if an all-you-can-eat buffet does not include drinks (atleast soft drinks) in the price

A lot of restaurants that serve bread do so because it fills you up very quickly. I remember Sizzler used to serve a cheese toast when you first came in. It was delicious but you couldn't eat much more after it.

All you can eat buffets are the biggest scam. I've never ever left a restaurant hungry, I always struggle to eat what's on my plate, so paying extra to pig myself is a waste of money imo.

Yeah, but you're a girl who hates junk food & anyone who eats it. I'm surprised you don't get violently ill just walking past an all-you-can-eat buffet

Blokes like my mate, who's over 2m tall and build like a brick sh*thouse eat their moneys worth & some more. I'm surprised he isn't offered free softdrinks to stop him eating as much.
Average guys who eat their fill not only get a variety of food they can sample, but eat sufficient amounts of it to justify $18 price.
Compare that to going to an average restaurant, where an entre pasta will set you back $15. Never mind a 350g steak at an upmarket CBD restaurant.

Zackly, the same tactic.

I once studied under a buffet master, who taught that you must analyse the densities of the food...eat the compact non-carb pricey ones first, like prawns, crayfish, sliced meats, and avoid fillers.

Salads go well on top after you have set the base in. Forget bread, you know what it tastes like.

Melon must be avoided at all costs...can not sit on top of rich food.

Any one got other tips?

Could not agree more!

The quality of food is always waaaaaaaaay down too with 'all you can seat' restaurants. No time for them from me!

Universal Cafe on Lygon St.

$20, all you can eat pizza nd pasta, all you can drink red and white goon.

Had many a night were we have just written ourselves off properly, eaten a massive meal, all for one 20 dollar note.

AWESOME!

Totally agree & now it's against the law to take home a "doogy bag", I usually just order an entree. I like the restaurants that have main meals, that you can either order in a main meal size, or entree size. :thumbsu:

Generally would agree with that in most places I've visited, with the exception of the Coffee Shop (an all you can eat place) down at Wrest Point.
With my FRC card, it's around about $26 I think and you can eat as much as you want and it's always fresh.
Certainly always get my money's worth and never leave there feeling hungry :thumbsu:
