Nice to see a couple of people acknowledging Naughton kicked 3 straight yesterday.

Last week he was talked about as if he was the worst shot in the league. Yes he had two howlers against Brisbane but that's not happening every week, and yesterday showed that.

He has 7.4 from 11 scoring shots this year. That's around average for a KPF. (I don't have any data on complete misses).

Astro lacks consistency, we all know that and we all know he CAN be a match winner. He leaves us guessing all too often

Richmond board is embarassing. Yes, we probably benefited from some helpful umpiring. No, it wasn't probably as consequential or beneficial to us as they make out, we copped a few bad decisions too. No, there isn't some conspiracy against Richmond. No, the fact that they have come last on the free kick differential for a few years isn't further proof of a conspiracy or a statistical impossibility but probably due to playing a game style that means they give frees more than they win (as with us and our positive differential).

Umpiring chat is bizarre. Of course there'll be discussions about if certain decisions were correct, with a bias. But the differential and conspiracy chat is just strange. You don't see soccer fans quoting free kick or penalty differentials as some sort of proof that the refs have it in for them or something. Arguably frees for/against should be a hidden stat, not promoted as heavily as kicks or contested possessions, but one that you have to hunt for like metres gained - a stat, but of far lesser importance than given.

Yep, and although people with xScore data do prove that, given the location of his set shots he's one of the worst in the league, it's overblown with how much of an impact he is.

May be an oversimplification but the value of turning one inside 50 on average into a set shot (maybe worth about 2 scoreboard points) is worth far more than how much his poor accuracy is worth on a per-shot basis (maybe worth 0.5 points per shot vs the league average of shots).

Mclean literally had 45 touches and 19 clearances…

Half fit he still covers more ground than McComb and is 10x the player he is in every single part of the game. Name just one thing McComb does better?
No one is saying McComb is better than Tobs certainly not me! But Tobby has been a shadow of himself until yesterdays performance, lets no kid ourselves. I expect him to come in this week :)

Last night I worked out the solution to Naughton’s set shot woes.

On that first set shot, he was preoccupied with having been hit in the bollocks previously, and the subsequent pain therein, and consequently the mental demons causing his lack in confidence had temporarily subsided in order to enable him to kick straight.

Herein on I demand that Daniel* be moved forward for the sole role of head butting Naughton in the nuts every time he has a set shot.

*I will accept Arty Jones or Cody Weightman as an alternative, however I thought I would show some mercy as Daniel’s head is wrapped in padding which may soften the blow somewhat.

I’m one of between approximately 0-1 people on here that defend Hannan but he can be a genuine crumber in this taller lineup, he has those skills.
Yeah he had some good moments last night and in the 2021 finals series as well. Has some value.

The problem is we have a few who are probably not quite up to it and as a fringe player he gets drawn into the discussion when we lose.

Watched the replay.

The McComb and Naughton free kicks, although soft, are correct.

Come at me.
They were both there and obvious. Was hilarious listening to the Tigers supporters around me melt down, particularly about Naughton (they didn’t get that the umpires were saying he was shoved before the contest).

He has missed many games in previous seasons but view his management as another example of coaching ineptitude. JJ is perfect for the small forward like bolton, more of whom have come into the game since 2016. Nearly every team now has a suitable match up for JJ who did not adapt to the attention he received after the premiership. Few if any of the fast smalls apply the physicality which caused JJ to stumble, Pickett hits hard but not before the ball arrives which appeared to be JJ's achilles.

I like JJ in the team, particularly given we don’t have much pace, but he will need to stay focused defensively. Let Bolton get away from him far too easily for the late goal that brought it back to within a kick. I suspect we’d view his game differently if Richmond had found a winning goal in the last minute.

Now Bolton does that to many teams, he’s a great player so that might be harsh marking. But it looked pretty bad on replay at the time.

Richmond push the limits to what is legal more than any other side. Their defenders love to play from behind and push in the back. Was nice to see the umpires actually pay some of them.

The non-call of the Hannan trip in the goal square was the worst decision of the night.

Yeah I'll come at you. Nothing about Naughton's free was soft, we're just conditioned to expect him to never get paid for blocks/pushes. Watching the replay, he was very clearly pushed in the back, which is a free kick every day of the week.

It coincidence that Naughton kicked all his goals from in front of to the right of goals? Seems to have more issues when on the left? Maybe it’s just me

JJ looks great in the backline. Definitely giving us abit more spark back there and I’ve been impressed with his defensive work.
He stays.

He also gives us more drive out of defence if Dale and Richards are getting manned close.

The Naughton one was definitely there. If the shoe was on the other foot and a Richmond player got paid the McComb one, our supporters would be filthy with it. Very rarely would you get those in a tight game towards the end. Should have been play on IMO.

The Naughton one was a no brainer. You have to pay it.

The mccomb one is one of those where as soon as I saw that the whistle had blown I knew it was for high contact by the Richmond player but I would’ve had no issue with the no call.

Richmond have been an undisciplined pack of dogs for years. Zero sympathy

Supposedly they like to give frees away on purpose to halt momentum / slow plays down (according to some of their fans). And then get annoyed about an agenda against them.

Which one is it?

Pretty crazy that the only games we have lost this year have been against the team that is currently 1st and most likely 3rd after today. I know it's a small sample size but maybe we judged the team too harshly for those games even though the performances were abysmal. The next four games seem totally winnable and if we can win those we are looking in a good position. I still think we have a lot of work to go if we are going to be competing at the end of the year but I can see the talent there.
Agree somewhat with Melbourne (they were missing 4 of their best 10 players though) but the Saints are no good, that was our worst lost on the Beveridge era outside of the Granny.

That St Kilda game was also the worst I’ve seen us play in a long long time. Was almost as bad as Essendon vs us in 2019.

Riewoldt's freekick in the 2009 Prelim was for less than McComb's

Have they admitted that Hannan was legged 5m out from goal yet?
