Review of Malthouse's performance yesterday

O'Brien will be better for it. Experience will do him the word of good.

Sometimes you need to take a step backwards before you can go forwards.... :)

How bout we just burn Mick at the stake right now?!?!
I don't think we can place 100% of the blame on Mick, he isn't the one playing, the players are, & if the players aren't performing then there is only so much MM can do.

Only if there was a nice juicy porterhouse on top.

Absolutely agree with some points you make:

Firstly - i rocked upto the game 10 minutes late and when took my seat saw Brown in the forward line. me and my mate just looked at each other and wondered if Malthouse was doing the same thing to Brown that what he did to Jason Cloke. couldnt understand the move and at half time when it was obviousy Brown was going to get another kick in the forward line, what not give the kid a go on Fev? he had proven himself against some of the best forwards in the current game so why have such little confidence in him to do the job?

Secondly - the amount of space that Fevola had to lead into in the forward 50 was absolutely ridiculous. everytime carlton went forward they would have fevola in acres of space and to be fair to Harry O'Brien he didnt stand a chance. so why didnt he put that spare man in defence to block Fev's space? i saw we had 7 forwards at one time which obviously meant Ratten was trying to put some1 loose of his own into our forward line so why didnt we allow it? surely we would have had more of a chance if fev was reduced to maybe 3 or 4 goals. cant attach any blames to harry

Thirdly - Shane O'Bree. Seriously this bloke gives me the shits coz his kicking has just gotten out of hand. Now everytime i see collingwood play, he wheel onto his left foot and or left hand and use his opposite every time. Yesterday i saw him take a mark and go back to kick and STILL kick it on his left foot. It is just becoming a joke and it is starting to make him loook stupid, if your right footer, use your F****** right foot. someone must have a word to him about it

Fourthly and most importantly - The selection of Toovey, Stanley, Brown (considering if he was going to play in forward line, why play him at all?) there would seem to be so many better options than the first two players. In the toovey situation, i would prefer a Ryan Lonie over him coz you will know he will get the ball and rebound and use it. In the stanley case there is a case for an Egan who showed such good form in the pre season and a Ben Reid for the balance of the team to replace Brown. These options would have been better and provided a better overall balance from the team rather than players playing out of position

i just pray that some common sense is there when the team is chosen this thursday night

I think there are a few issues from yesterday.

I was surspised we couldn't develop a stratgey to support harry down back.

The ball bounced carltons way all day

Rocca had a downer again when collingwood needed him

Malthouse coaches collingwood to peak in finals so yesterday is a long way from september so lets see how we back up next week.

We miss clement as our young guys develop.

I think we need to be pateint this year as MM expereimnts with his newcomers

Brown looks all class but its also good to se him operate both ends of hte ground

Martin clarke is back in form

My big regret is that we lost ot carlton.

On the O'Bree point, hes got an injured right knee, which he has had for the last 2 years, which means he can't kick on it without serious discomfort.

I'm extremely disappointed his knee wasn't fixed over summer.

Harry has stopped Riewoldt and Lucas etc tall KPP players. It's not a matter of height or position but style of player. Harry's strength is his ability to close the lead. He is quicker then Brown..........
I don't think so - Fevola left him behind every time - I think Brown is a lot quicker probably, should have been tried. I think MM was guessing when he said no-one could have stopped Fevola, we'll never know because he refused to try Brown on him, I'm sure someone in the box was humbly suggesting it. But looking at Brown's previous games where he almost always kept right up with his opponents on leads, I think he would most probably have stopped a lot of those marks and goals.

Whats the go with Irish this season?
He looks bulky and slow.
Lets hope its not home sickness he's suffering from.
Started to show some signs and backed himself a couple of times with confidence. Getting back on track towards stardom. I think he'll be very useful by the finals and elite by mid next season, since he has the determination.

If he cant kick on his proper leg then he shouldnt be playing, simple as that!
