Roast Rhys Palmer

I'm one of those that sit on the 'cant believe the criticism he cops' side of the fence. He aint no superstar but plays a role, with great extraction and a strong body at the clearances and deft knock on's.

May not have the most polished skills, but loved his handball onto a running Keplar for an open goal.... positives outweigh the negatives IMO.

That was vision! He went ok last night I reckon, kept his spot for sure.

I think he would benefit immensely from Barlow being in the side, he's got great hands and knows how to find it.

I'm convinced his errors are purely confidence based and not something more serious, but as another poster pointed out, he's starting to remind allot of people of Schammer.

Palmer is genuinely slow.

Noticeable at ground level. Bullies worked off him too much last night.

Stack left him for dead on more than one occassion.

Agree GG, but I think the main reason people are so hard on him now is that we have higher standards skills-wise. Still think he's a pretty good footballer and you could see a place fo him surrounded by Barlow, Mundy, Fyfe, Hill, Pitt (licking lips and thinking Mora might be in a forward role in future). Besides some good work with the hands, hit Lower lace out in the lead-up to the final Bradley goal.

He struggles defensively in midfield an his tackling has been poor in the past.
Maybe thats why they are playing him in forward pocket to get him working hard defensively with chasing an tackling.

I might get shot down for this but I reckon a run with the Sharks over the bye migh be good for him. His game time is down a little and he is doing a defensive role in the forward line as discussed in this thread so the run wont hurt at all. His decision making is getting better but his touch is not great at the moment. A little bit of panic seems to set in and a lot of fumbles, dropped marks and the like. Reminded me a lot like McPhee early last year. The endeavour is there and he is doing a role but fumbles are killing him and his confidence. He came into the competiton in 2008 as a real standout for one touch run and carry. I really think that his field kicking has actually improved a little. Goal kicking is a worry.

He also needs to get more of the ball, like up around 18 or more touches and I can think of about 4 - 5 dropped marks/fumbles that resulted in him missing out on a handy possession. McPharlin also missed him by a country mile in the last quarter when he had run well into space on the wing. I reckon last night he was at about 2.0 - 2.5 out of 5. Nail that goal and those ball gets/marks and he would have had around 16+ touches and a goal which would been a much better game.

I didn't think Palmer was too bad, Stack is a genuinely quick player and made everyone of our guys look slow at times. Palmer made a few mistakes and had a few fumbles but every time he did he worked his arse off to get it back. Having said that, a run in the WAFL for a week or two particularly over the bye might be good for him.

I think he is off to GWS. Last night there were a few times where he didn't go..And I think he is being used as a fill player(As Harvs knows he's going)here and there...so its hard to just waltz up and perform in a given position...

In saying all that, Rhys is a better outside player....though he is good at getting the ball inside and being in the middle...he just has no outside vision when he gets it and gives off to trouble.. Gotta fix that or the coaches have to find a niche for him.

Conclusion: great ball winner but can't feed it out to a free man.
Great receiver on the outside, still learning to find a man upfield then executing..

If he was staying, the coaches would be looking to fix these.....But it looks like ....that this will just be how it will be this year for him...

I reckon if there is any one player of ours in the sights of GWS its Bradley ... particularly after the start to the season he's had and the way Sheedy raves about him.

He's one player I don't feel nervous about when he takes a mark inside the forward 50. Will be a great loss if he goes.

Unlikely that you'll get shot down, makes a lot of sense. :thumbsu:

Just heard Harvey state that the 22 players from last night's game cannot play WAFL this coming weekend. I think St Kilda played a few players like Peake and Raph Clarke during their Bye and that ruled them out for the subsequent AFL game. I would consider this but likely Palmer will hold his place. He needs to work hard on his touch over the next couple of weeks.

It's possible that Palmer has already been signed, so we would have to agree to let Bradley go, the way Brisbane did with Brennan
