Terribly sad news.

Gotta hate this shit in the article "STEVE BUTLER, EXCLUSIVE" like the news is something to be proud of getting in first?

RIP Maurice.

Was, quite simply, the best player I have ever seen pull on a yellow & black guernsey.
Had everything.
For anyone that never saw him play, he was the consumate magician. Silky smooth. Had it all.
Shattered at this news. Really really shattered.
Rest in peace Maurice. You provided us all with so many great memories.

^^^^^^

This. Had the great pleasure of watching Maurice many times in his South Freo days and then he christened the Eagles first ever AFL game (at Subi in 1987) with one of his finer performances (37 disposals and 2 goals)...

Just far too young.

Thanks for the memories Magic ...:thumbsu:

It's sad when people die at any time but to die during the festive season which is suppposed to be a joyous occasion must be particularly difficult for his family.

I feel great compassion for Junior Boy, Michael Long and the whole of the Rioli mob at this time.

RIP Maurice.

This says it all

That's rough, can't even imagine what his family is going through ATM, never saw him play but from what I hear he was something very special and hopefully his son can continue his legacy.

118 games 80 goals dual B&F (82, 83) three time AA (83, 86, 87) magical player. Fir player to be awarded the Nrom Smith Medal in a losing Grand Final side.

R.I.P.

An absolute legend of the game and a true gentleman. Will be missed by all football fans particularly at South Freo, St Marys and Richmond.

Was an amazing player in partnership with Stephen Michael at South Fremantle in the late 70's early 80's.

A very sad day.

Never had the opportunity to watch him play but from word of mouth, I've built my own impressions of him and I assumed he was one of the greatest to ever play for us, even though it wasn't the longest career.

It's very sad that he died, on Christmas day, during a family BBQ with a heart attack, how awful is that?? Poor guy.

RIP Maurice, best wishes to you and your family during this time. Jesus must have an important place for you in heaven to take you on Christmas day, hopefully Richmond can dedicate their entire 2011 season to you, with black armbands and a giant banner for round one. You deserve it.
