I know this is a bit of an abstract comparison, but I'm trying to settle an argument. Would you have Matthew Richardson or Anthony Rocca?

Games Kicks Marks Posessions Goals Behinds
Rocca 201 1532 981 2216 333 229
Richo 229 2407 1730 3059 668 449

While Richo has not lived up to his potential he is much better then Rocca who plays 1 good game every 10 weeks.

Agreed. Much the point i'm trying to make. I'll be interested to see what the general opinion is. I hope its not just Tigers supporters vs Magpie supporters that vote.

Is it based on their entire career or who you would have at this moment in time?
Over their careers - Richo every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
Right now - Rocca, playing SLIGHTLY better at this stage and probably has a bit longer left in his legs.
I'm a big fan of Richo's and believe he would be ranked alot higher if he had a decent midfield in front of him for the majority of his career. It's unfortunate for him that this is finally starting to happen when his body is on the wrong side of young.

Sorry, good point. Over their careers.

Richo is and always has been a better player than Anthony Rocca.

Does that make Anthony a bad player? No, it makes Richardson a fantastic one.

Should we compare Anthony Rocca to Carey, Ablett, Dunstall and Lockett now?

How about we try Coventry, Hudson, Coleman and Pratt?

Seriously, what is gained by comparing Rocca to a player that everyone knows is above his class?

Good post. The poll was to settle a bet. I mentioned that it was abstract and apologised in advance.

Richo is better then Rocca by so far its laughable, he has kicked twice as many goals in just 28 more games then Rocca. He is a class above him and anybody who thinks otherwise needs some serious help

Who would you have being the question is Rocca, simply because hes 3 years younger picking up someone 31 over a 28 yr old is a pretty dense move.

Richardson would prolly be able to perform better then Rocca if he were down at the magpies right now, quite alot better place to be then richmond atm.

It's clearly Richardson over his career.

I wouldnt have a problem with Rocca if pie supporters didnt rate him so high. Well at least at my school he is. Both are good players but Richo is better.

Over carrer Richo is a much better player but at the moment i would choose Rocca because he is playing better (prob because collingwood are doing better then Richmond) plus he has a few more years left in him then Richo. Overall Richo WAS a better player

Actually the more interesting comparison is between Richo and Sav Rocca. Richo tends to stray up the ground outside 50 more and has picked up a lot more possessions, and Sav has played a few games in the ruck, but their goalkicking record overall is very similar, partly thanks to Sav's greater accuracy. Makes me even more bemused why the Saveloy hasn't been a regular fixture in the Kangaroos team the last couple of years.

The reason I started this poll was because a know-it-all Collingwood supprter came out with the claim that Richo was the most overrated player in the game. A fellow Richmond supporter suggested that people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, i.e. Anthony Rocca. Know-it-all then matter of factly stated that the entire football world knows that Rocca is better than Richo. I replied with "Sav Rocca maybe, but not Anthony". I agree that Sav vs Richo's a far better comparison. Good to see that I wasn't dreaming though and that the football public recognise that Richo's in a different class to Rocca, despite the big lug's obvious flaws. :thumbsu:
