Toast RIP Tommy Hafey

Shocked and saddened by this news, tears in the eyes as I type. Tommy was Richmond from that first game I saw back in '67. A true legend.
He was Richmond's Bill Shankly, I can honestly give no greater praise than that.
Condolences to the Hafey family.
RIP Tommy.

The passion that we each display for this great club has Tommy Hafey to thank. The premierships, the value of hard work; when we talk of traditional club, Tommy created that. The principles underpinning his ethos and manta's survive in successful teams today.

Giant of the game. Giant of Richmond football club. Told my 7 year old boy tonight about Tommy - and he was so inspired he went straight online and googled "Tee-Shirt Tommy".

Thankyou Tommy.

RIP Tommy,

Was riding my bike to work the other month and saw Tommy coming back from his swim. Said good morning and he yelled back good morning young fella (im 41) and have a great day won't ya.
It made my week.
Onya Tommy!!!
Love hearing these stories.

A mate of mine met Tommy a few times and in his early 80's when asked 'how are you today Tommy', he'd reply ... 'FANTASTIC ... and getting better every day!'

Heard this news a little while ago and was shattered, news has hit me like a ton of bricks. Was only a few weeks ago that I heard he was back in hospital again.

RIP Tommy. Condolences to his family. A real leader of men who will be lost to the game in a big way

A top bloke who will be missed by fans at Tigers, Pies, Cats, Swans and all across the league. He really did help make modern footy. Even at 82 he was taken way too young. A great life.

Condolences to the Hafey family, such sad news. I was lucky enough to meet him and could not have met a nicer and genuine bloke. The one thing I remember him telling me was "don't ever take for granted that you support the Richmond Football Club"
The AFL has lost a TRUE LEGEND!!

RIP MATE!

Because I regard him so highly, I loved the way he never distanced himself from Richmond despite being unfairly moved on as coach and having to swallow a GF loss at our hands in 1980.

Too good for bitterness. While Jack Dyer is considered by many to be Richmonds greatest legend, I have a stronger leaning towards Tommy.

I admire not only what he did for us but also for Collingwood (bottom to GF in one year) and without the years he had the Swans would the Swans have ever got off the ground hence the other teams that make up the national competition.
