Happy to see lob given a shot, interested to know why it's taken so long. Also glad to see Mitch get his 15th 2nd chance to show something. Here's to many more bumps allowing for handballs to be given when a tackle would have earned us a holding the ball. Can see why he wanted to come to us, paid big money to do nothing and not be held accountable in the slightest.
In my view...

1. they’ve pegged him as ‘wing only’
2. the attacking wing spot has been dominated by Walsh (whereas last year he played in the square half the time)
3. They wanted the best defensive pressure on the other wing and started by giving Newnes that role then switched to Cotts when Newnes started kicking goals (Newness is now 75/25 forward/wing).
4. Hard to know how he’s gone at the next level down but the write ups have been ‘ok’. Doesn’t seem to have featured strongly in their summaries.

Very keen to see him tomorrow.

I sincerely hope he does turn it around and dominate for the next 6 years.

Just looks less and less likely with each game that he plays. His output at the Crows was not much better either.
I remember when he came someone put up a stat with cas at same stage of career and they were very similar for output ..

Decoy, foil, structure ...... don’t know, sometimes I think we’re just stretching to come up with reasons to justify MM recruitment and a place in the team.

His two years at the club have been underwhelming so far. He’ll be 26 next month and with just 75 games under his belt, he needs to extract the digit and improve his output. The club has shown faith and hopefully it turns around for him in the next two games. Here’s hoping.

not being rude but what are you trying to say. that he'll be as good as cas? is that good or bad
I don't think anyone would of been offering 800 k to cas as a key forward or 3rd tall.. cas is a good foot soldier not a 800 k player .. cas has as many poor games as excellent with mostly average output games .. but he can ruck relief so still offers more than gov..

Doubt the MC can get much of a gauge from these scratch matches. LOB was trucking along OK in the VFL and then put up some reasonable performances in the senior team in his debut season.

Some players find it easier to transition to playing senior footy, especially outside mids who’s primary concern is being able to cover the ground and hit targets in open space.

The situation is a bit different this year, but I think LOB will manage fine. From what Soapy has indicated the club has been holding him back and didn’t expect him to be in the team this year so I’m hoping he’s being preferenced due to team balance and to opportunity to see how he’s adapted his game over the past few months.

There is a solution to the defensive wing solution you suggest and that is play Docherty or Williamson there. It would however require us to have Marchbank or Newton up and running and goodness knows I wouldn't even suggest Polson. :p

Think McGovern in is because it’s agsinst Adelaide maybe the coach believes this will fire him up ... I also think he is a good decoy ... if he drag opponents with him and create space for someone else like H Eddie Caz etc ... that would be much appreciated...
I am a harsh critic of his but see this as the case too. If he cannot fire up for his old mob, as I am sure Eddie will too, then if they both fail it’s probably curtains for both.
big game for both of them tomorrow.

Given we are playing Adelaide, McGovern makes sense for this week, but I would think, he is skating on very, very thin ice. Lucky to be playing this week but has a real opportunity to stand and deliver, especially against a depleted opposition.
Yes, playing against his old side makes “some” sense. On form though he should have been dropped. SB, your last sentence is the most telling. He may be some chance against a “depleted opposition“. He may actually kick a few... but... is this guy going to help us really challenge the power teams? In 2 years he not shown us even one game that would warrant his salary.
I don’t doubt he has talent but there needs to be integrity with selection. This fails the sniff test.

Professional decisions made by the MC, but there'll need to be another professional one next week if McGovern doesn't fire.

The path before the team is clear: play a reasonably attacking brand of football and kick a score. If we push that past a 7 goal margin, the number of results we're relying on to make the 8 goes from 3 down to 1, namely the Dons beating the Dees in the final round.

So while it's not entirely in our hands, there's a lot to play for, and that probably explains all of the decisions made.

Happy to take bets?.....Crafty bastard :)

That's great for Lochie and sort of....about time.
What does that make him...about the 38th player used this year, without the likes of Marchbank, Kemp and CCurnow even having had the chance of a look-in?
37th, as it turns out.

One act, apart from that he was poor

They play different roles, personally Gov is lucky to be there
I wonder what they'll do with Kemp's status if we make the 8...

Nah we will win and win handsomely ..... the boys will give us a sniff for next week.

How good would that be?

Beat the lions for a finals spot!

Even better .... * winning gives us a finals spot 😂🤣😂

This year couldn't actually get any worse.........we have to hope for an Essendon win now, fmd.
