We know a parent of one of the 2023 draftees and they were really worried when we drafted him because he'd never been away from home before.

Problems quickly dispelled. He loves it. The place just has a great atmosphere , everyone gets included, honest feedback and encouragement ever step of the way. The older guys really go out of their way to help those just learning the ropes and trying to improve and a lot of the credit must go to Fagan primarily, the other coaches and the staff.

Word gets around. We don't have any problem attracting good players anymore.
Kicking 2 goals in a winning Grand Final team wouldn't hurt either 😉

Maybe. Reading between the lines on some of the personnel movement at the coaching/footy admin level out of collingwood this season, not sure he's any better at avoiding personal conflict. He's also moved into list management and away from direct contact with the players there. I've never met the guy though so I'm just speculating.

The situation he walked into in 2014 was bloody tough and would have been super hard to deal with. The senior players then also weren't great culture setters either and we'd drafted poorly and failed to retain most of our promising picks.

He's older and wiser now I'm sure, but given he grabbed a reserves player by the throat I'm disinclined to trust his temperamant to work with the modern player.
Leppa has struggled in the list management area, and has let his frustrations get the better of him a couple of times this trade period, when other clubs wouldn’t go along with what he was proposing.

Leppa has won four premierships with Richmond and Collingwood as an assistant, I’m sure he’s learnt a lot since his lions stint.

Leppa played most of his footy under Lethal.

For all the deserved love Lethal cops now he admits that he wishes he knew what he knows now when he was coaching. Wisdom comes with experience and intelligent reflection. He's not afraid to say his attitude towards coaching has modified a little since he retired. Plus this generation of players is different from the previous and light years away from those who played under Barassi ,Parkin ,Hafey etc. Plus the game was a lot more violent in those eras which was a factor in how you were coached.

I know people are hard on Leppa but he was dealt a dud hand to begin with and did what he thought best in the mindset of either toughening up or not making it. I'm sure he'd be a lot different now.

Lethal wasn't as hard as people think. It might have been Lynchy on the roar deal said in the race before the 01 GF Lethal said he was proud of the group regardless of the result

Yes he wasn't .

But still harder than he would be if he had some of his time back. Probably like a few coaches of that era.

The race for a 4th flag got cruelled by injuries and a rigged draw so then we thought we were good enough to keep backing up after that instead of rebuilding.

(When) will we be able to listen to this on the podcast app/Spotify?

I think they are planning on posting it later this week.

Speaking of the Roar Deal, has anyone received their Dancing On Thin Ice merch yet? I ordered both the cap and the shirt, Dom mentioned they'd be arriving this week, but still no word...

I'm in the same boat; heard nothing since placing the order.

And now Collingwood’s long term recruiting manager has quit due to friction between him and Leppitsch. Doesn’t sound like he is an easy person to work with.

Probably helps that there are half a dozen recruiting jobs available at West Coast atm, including Vic based positions. Can walk in to another job.

Highly recommend watching this to anyone who hasn’t. Brilliant. So lucky to have Fages leading this club. Quite phenomenal the turnaround not only from end of 2016 when he took over to now but the base he has set up from today heading into the future

Agreed. Scathing of what he found when he got here.

Elite athletes can be delightful, but underneath they are all competitive beasts who would happily ground everyone in their path to the top prize into dust. Collaboration and playing well with friends are learnt skills, but not surprising that they can't lose the edge completely.

The surprise is that clubs/teams can sometimes rise above that to work in sync for each other. That's a rare and beautiful thing that leads to sustained success.

AND THAT'S US BABY 😊 😊 😃
